Title: GLASCO 50 - Price and parts
Post by: 4allofyou on February 02, 2008, 12:35:59 pm
Good evening from the Netherlands

(yep the country where the reporter lives who claims to have the answer about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway)

I guy is offering me a Glasco50 for $ 400,--

Is this a fair price ?? ANd what about parts, are they easy to find ?

Thanks so far

Looks like a real good deal to me, since anything similar that you find would be
over here and shipping cost alone would exceed $400.00.

Parts are very easy to find for sliders but it looks like all you need is a cap catcher.

Thanks

The paint looks ok and even the metal parts inside are not to bad

He says that it needs a check up

I'd snap it up.

The "needs a checkup" part concerns me. I get a feeling it doesn't cool, or cool well.  Not a problem if you can find a reputable  refrigeration repair shop.

Oh, I forgot, Welcome to the boards.

400... Great deal...but ask what he means by checkup.. make sure it cools...

But even if it does not see if you can get it for less... it's still worth it in parts or to have it fixed... Like an ice clean original.

Hi

There are a couple of us this side of the world... But not many...
I don't think we in England had any vending machines before the seventies.
I have managed to grab a couple from close to American Airbases.

We did have the Rockola & (bal) Ami Jukes so there are some of them floating around.
Nowehre near as much cool stuff as you guys have... With it only being a ferry rise away I have
often thought about going over and buying a few bits... I always watch Ebay in Europe for Cola related stuff...

As you can see the previous owner put some wheels under the cooler

Great looking slider, however my first thought is that it had been repainted at some point, either the whole thing or maybe just he bottom and underside? I see overspray on the caster wheels, and also overspray on your drain tube and condensor lines on the cooling unit. That would be a sign of a repaint at some point as the orignial paint would have been done before the unit was assembled. Either way still very nice..
The two plugs you see are , one for the blower fan inside the cooling unit, if it's still there... this would help circulate the cold air around the bottles. the larger plug would be for power...

the smaller plug is suppose to plug into the wiring harness.. but looks like that might have been removed when they put a new plug on it ... it's not too hard to rewire. There should be an on/off push button swithc near the top of the inside compartment that turns the blower off when the lid is opened and turns on when closed.

is the coke logo painted on or decal, that will help tell you if it's been repainted or original too.

the logo is a decal, but I need a new one. The on/off switch where you're refering about, is this normally in the compartment where you can take out the bottles

About the fan, I'm going to check this wether it is still there

Many thanks in advance

It's pretty obvious that it has been re-painted. The logo was applied in the
center, and a cap catcher will now cover part of it.

Good catch Glen.. didn't notice that one...

and yes the switch would be near the top right back side of the cooler and there is a little flap that depresses it when the lid is shut.

Here is a pic of one I did a while back. See how the fishtail logo is slightly to the right. You have a nice machine. i now live in Singapore. I wish we had machines here. i have looked everywhere on this little island and have come up with nothing. I like the sliders because you can remove the rack and use them for anything but easily put them back to being a vending machine.

Thanks so far for yr replies. The machine hasn't been made for Europe because it's 110 voltage system, overhere we're using 220 volt.

I love to see some pictures from inside so that I can see how it should be

Maybe I'm going to repaint it, I'm not sure.

Singapore is not the only country witch lack of 50's stuff.Same goes for Holland where I live. Everything is being imprted from the USA or Greece (jukeboxes)

The brother of our best girlfriend has moved from the states to Singapore. Orig. he came from Holland.
