Title: Keep your fingers crossed for me Post by: Kilroy on January 18, 2008, 10:39:20 pm and wish me luck.
I may have located an original Wurlitzer 1015, in good condition ( plays, good veneer plastics look great) for a good (I don't have to sell a kidney) price. Yeah, I know this is a soda machine discussion board, but I had to share the thrill of the hunt with people who understand. Edit: Did I say thrill of the hunt? It was more like walking into an ambush. Long story short, ad is in Vegas Craigslist, buyer claims to be in Canada, but has items at an Ebay Seller store,. Yeah except: - the item was picked up, so don't ask what sotre its at ( uh huh, I searched, there is one only store in Vegas) - Wow, when does Ebay stores offer to sell stuff offline? - Hmmm, Thestore is supposed to be in Las Vegas, the address is Ohio, and the "registered clerk" is in Florida. - Oh yeah, the mail is coming form an ip address in Canada. Including the store in Vegas, or Ohio, or wherever its supposed to be. - Did I mention an Ebay store that doesn't accept Paypal, only Western Union Wire transfers? Yeaaah and if bells aren't going off, The pictures were lifted from another web site. So I'll file a report to Craigslist , and hopefully they can stop this nonsense. Yeah, if it's too good to be true, it is. Title: Re: Keep your fingers crossed for me Post by: sodaworks on January 18, 2008, 11:37:38 pm This has Nigerian scam written all over it.
Title: Re: Keep your fingers crossed for me Post by: davethebirdman on January 19, 2008, 09:07:42 am I had a very similar problem just before Xmas with a Rockola 78 player... Listed in London but seller had it crated in France and free of charge was going to freight it to me. He needed a wire transfer to complete the deal. All written in very old fashioned broken English... Shame cos I thought I had a bargain too. Rule of thumb... Unless you can pick it up don't buy it.. Title: Re: Keep your fingers crossed for me Post by: Kilroy on February 05, 2008, 08:20:14 pm I guess I understand why the Nigerian scam works so well. The "Too cool, I scored a sweet deal" neurons over ride the "Um, this reeks of inaccuracies, and logically you need to walk away, don't look back" synopses bouncing around your brain. (sorry, have the Discovery Medical channel on the telly in the background)
The funny part is the guy wrote back 2 days later asking if I got the contact information from the "Ebay sell it for you store" who had it. Yeah, I did you Idiot. I can only hope some one didn't fall for it. |
