Title: Selectivend S-48 Dr Pepper Machine or Rack if anyone is interested. Post by: Seven181 on January 07, 2008, 09:00:52 pm Hey gang,
I have an old Selectivend S-48 Dr Pepper machine that I am wanting to sell or part out. I thought someone on here was looking for the inside rack. If interested, pm me. Unfortunately, the shaft/coin block is unique to the change-givers and cannot simply be switched with a 39/81 non-change-giver mech shaft. It could probably be modified, but I've never looked at it fully. The problem is that the dime side of the change-giver shaft is not raised to hit the dog - there is a raised part on the nickel side only. The dogs are also unique to the change-giver mechs in that they overlap one another. That way, it will vend on a nickel raising the nickel dog and clearing the raised part of the nickel side of the shaft - when a dime is inserted, the dime dog raises the nickel dog and activates the change slide. Kind of hard to explain - I'll post a photo later. Title: Re: Selectivend S-48 Dr Pepper Machine or Rack if anyone is interested. Post by: collecture on January 09, 2008, 01:37:59 pm Here is a photo of the SD change-giver.
As you can see - the front side of the nickel slot has the usual raised edge which locks against the dog if there is not a coin (indicated by red line); however, on the back side of the dime slot, this edge has been deleted (indicated by blue arrow). So when a nickel is inserted, the mech works just like any other SD mech, but notice how the dogs are set up - they overlap (indicated by purple arrow). So when a dime is inserted, the dime raises the dime dog which in turn raises the nickel dog. When the dime dog is lifted, it also actuates the change slide (not pictured) spitting out a nickel change. I guess you could take an S48 change-giver mech - break it down and switch out the shaft with a V39, V81 shaft that has had the dime edge ground down. You'll need a roll pin punch also to swap out another part on the change-giver shaft not included in regular mechs Title: Re: Selectivend S-48 Dr Pepper Machine or Rack if anyone is interested. Post by: MoonDawg on January 09, 2008, 01:50:43 pm Nice picture Tom. So you are saying the shaft is too short for an 81?
Title: Re: Selectivend S-48 Dr Pepper Machine or Rack if anyone is interested. Post by: collecture on January 09, 2008, 02:03:04 pm No - it is actually longer than the 81, but the shaft on an S48 is turned down at the end to about 5/16" in diameter. On an S48, there is an extra arm attached with a pin that interacts with the bottle stack.
It could be modified as well with a little work - you would need to cut to length and get the 5/16" shaft back to the 1/2" V81 shaft diameter. I suppose some sort of collar might work? It would be easier to modify the V39 change-giver mech to the 81 - just cut and drill. Here is a pic of the S48 shaft - as I recall the 81 shaft would be about 1/2" past the start of the turned end. |
