Title: Is it Worth it??
Post by: SGM on January 02, 2008, 11:36:42 pm
This machine is very close to me, is it worth what he is asking.  Looking for your opinions from experience.  I'm pretty new this this.

Thank you,

It is definately worth the current bid of $1150. Hard to tell if a quality paint job has been done...
didn't do anything to the inside that I can tell - $1600 tops IMHO - but I like better pics and as a buyer deserve them!

It's NOT worth the Buy it now price, Looks to be a nice orignal machine, but without better pictures, it's hard to tell if it was a repaint? Looks to be some rust areas on the back bottom cabinet area which is not a good sign, and without a working compressor... NOT.
Although I've seen some good prices for 81's lately, but I'd bet it tops out at 1800... maybe a bit higher for an uneducated buyer... Good that you asked, hold on,,, another good deal will come along...

Hard to tell if a quality paint job has been done...

The data plate gives this away! 4 small screws hold it on but the painter was
in too much of a hurry to remove it so it was hastily masked off, similar to the
leg-leveler. This leads me to assume it's a "quick & easy" paint job and probably
wasn't prepared properly either. The orange power cord doesn't add much class
either.
Many un-informed people may bid high on this machine simply because it is
shiny and prettty in the pictures. In reality it is an unrestored machine that will
need to be stripped down and restored like the rest.
It is at $1300. now with a bad compressor. If I were a bidder ........now is
when I would throw in my cards.  Who knows how much rust and bondo is hiding?

Even with the poor picture quality you can see the orange peeling in the paint.  Looks like it was a very quick spray without a lot of preperation.  I would pass...
