May 2008 be as bountiful to you all as last year ! ! !
And we did see our fair share of nice things come through for many of the SMC Members, so it will be a tough year to follow...

All the TV networks flash-back on the biggest news stories of the year.
Wish we could re-cap some of the best finds that showed up in 2007.  :drinking:

Well I'm still recovering from my New Years Eve. I was working and had the busiest night I can reember since the Millenium Eve.

We had one murder, 17yr old stabbed to death by another youth. Four bars smashed to pieces
a car accident where the victim was left for dead, reports of gangs armed with guns  and thousnads of drunken kids roaming the streets up until 6am when I finally went off duty... Hardly the start of a happy New Year.

At one stage close after the midnight chimes and the fireworks I was standing in a bar with two of my collegues holding back three hundred seventeen year old's and it was just like a scene out of "the wild west". Glass flying everywhere. At that point I felt "I'm just too old for this.."

At the end of the night I felt I earned my money and had a great sense of relief that everyone I was responsible for was going home unharmed....

Nice to get home to a sleeping family oblivious to what nasty things are going on out there. Long many it stay that way too...

Dave

The drinking age is 18...
However, Our liquor laws are much more relaxed than yours.
We are suffering a culture of binge drinking by our young people. To the extent that
it has really affected our whole way of life...

Our town centres are full of intoxicated yobs most weekends. The Governments answer to this....
Remove drinking restrictions in pubs... Anyway this is getting political so I'll say no more..

This incident should be a strong basis for raising the minimum age to 21.
