Title: Casters Post by: Eric on December 17, 2007, 09:57:17 pm OK... I don't know where to get these type casters... they somehow fit into the
corner of the coolers base.... Is there some type of shaft they fit into that is bolted into the corner?.. All I ever see are casters that fit up into a table leg or a caster that uses 4 little screws or bolts up into a base... never something that bolts from the side as pictured on a cooler I found for reference.... My 7up junior has no caster and well... at this time my Nichol Kola has no base..yet... but they will be the same as this image... Any help would be great.... images or something..... thanks all.. I know I can count on this group! Title: Re: Casters Post by: collecture on December 17, 2007, 10:11:20 pm Eric,
I have a pretty good selection of casters at my local ACE Hardware Store with all three types. You can also search the web - I have ordered from www.castercity.com They had some that had a CC red type wheel, but the wheel well on my WD-5 did not give enough clearance for the caster to fully rotate 360 degrees, so I had to find original casters to make it work. So be aware of that problem! My Vendo Junior had the tubes spot welded up into the holes and it used the table leg type caster. Can you post a pic of the caster mount on the cooler? You need to measure the diameter of the mounting hole also. Title: Re: Casters Post by: Eric on December 17, 2007, 10:14:26 pm That's just it.. there is no mount.. was wondering if there is something that you buy that fits into the
corner.... I just looked through their casters... the square stem looks promising but the wheel is 5" round too big... so I'm gonna call tomorrow and send them the same picture to see what they have.. in the mean time keep the ideas and experience with these coming Thanks! Title: Re: Casters Post by: collecture on December 17, 2007, 10:20:02 pm If there is no mount, I think you are stuck having to fabricate it.
On all the coolers I have, the manufacturer incorporated bolt holes, a mount or something and the casters were an optional accessory. I have casters on both my WD-5's, Vendo Junior and my Vendo 23. Title: Re: Casters Post by: Eric on December 17, 2007, 10:29:36 pm Yeah sorry.. there are holes like the picture one on the front and on the side... just don't know what to bolt to all the caster I've seen, until that site, are just round stemmed casters.. and I don't know what to use or what they used to bolt to... to hold the caster.
Title: Re: Casters Post by: Sodaman101 on December 18, 2007, 12:37:25 am OK maybe Im reading this all wrong but why couldn't you just get a standard stem caster and weld a small square plate to the side of it and drill a hole through the plate? Then you have a caster with a mounting plate and it bolts via the side....... see lame drawing below( the plate is attached in one place and is kept from swinging up via the fact that it has the bottom of the machine keeping it in the correct place( and of course the hole would be best as close to the stem as possible
Title: Re: Casters Post by: MoonDawg on December 18, 2007, 10:08:12 am I would'nt use the holes on the sides. I would drill holes in the bottom and
use 2" casters with a threaded stem, but that's not original. Title: Re: Casters Post by: SIGNGUY on December 18, 2007, 10:22:23 am Eric,
With no mounting holes and maybe not wanting to make additional , no original mounts on the cooler, maybe have something rigged up with 4 casters that you could just sit the cooler on or in to move around, that way the cooler stays original, and you can still move it around easily? Know what I mean?, some sorty of cart or dolly? Just a thought. :oh: Title: Re: Casters Post by: collecture on December 18, 2007, 11:13:11 am Quote some sorty of cart or dolly? Just a thought. I think John is on the right track here and I have seen something like that. I see if I can find what I remember. Four pieces of angle iron welded together in the shape of the base of the cooler and a cross brace at each corner with a hole for the caster. See my rudimentary Paint drawing below: Title: Re: Casters Post by: SIGNGUY on December 18, 2007, 03:38:32 pm Yep,
that's exactly what I was thinking... paint it up to match or contrast the cooler, make it low profile so that it's not a focal point and your set... Title: Re: Casters Post by: Eric on December 18, 2007, 11:06:08 pm Thanks guys I like the base idea but that would be $$$
I'm gonna go with Sodaman101 and weld a piece of flat heavy gage metal to the stem. Thanks guys..... I knew this group would come through! Title: Re: Casters Post by: collecture on December 19, 2007, 12:45:33 am I remembered where I saw the dolly.
Look on page 61 of Walter's 3rd edition. It has pictured a Dolly Option for the Westinghouse Standard and Master coolers. Title: Re: Casters Post by: SIGNGUY on December 19, 2007, 09:42:59 am Eric,
Can't imagine that would cost much money?, 4 peices of angle iron, and find a guy to weld it together?... but I shouldn't speak before looking into it I guess? Good luck on what you do. Title: Re: Casters Post by: collecture on December 19, 2007, 10:51:46 am I have to agree with John that it couldn't be that much...I seem to recall a welder telling me $25 for 10 spot welds, but the older I get the less accurate my memory is.
the casters are probably going to be your biggest expense! But...it is your baby and you do what you think is best or like best! Glad the site could help solve another issue! |
