Title: Door Seal
Post by: SGM on December 06, 2007, 10:53:14 pm
I've attached a couple pics of the bottom of the door/seal.  My question is if I tear the door apart to take care of the rust can I use the same seal when I put it back together or do I need to find a new seal (is it even available?) before I take it apart?  The only place there is any type of rust is along the bottom.  How do you recommend going about cleaning it?

Thank you,
SGM

If there are no rips or hole's in the gasket you should be fine in
reusing  it , cleaning it  warm water  little dish soap  then dry it

as far as the rust   could be worse than what you think
or it may not be that bad at all , I would take a wire wheel
on a drill   and clean the rust & failed  paint  away first.
(Make sure the Gasket & door liner are off So you don't damage them)

Do like Pat said..
It doesn't look too bad, but you never know till you get it off... just take your time gettin it off, most likely it will be stuck in there pretty good.. take photos of the process so you remember how it goes back on and mark top and bottom of gasket as to get it back on the right way and holes line up.
Good luck!.

Also be prepared to replace any moldy, rotten or missing fiberglass insulation on the inside as well.

Pat and Signguy,

Thanks for reply, I think I'm gonna tackle this thing.  If I happen to mess the seal up what are the chances of finding a new one??

Thanks,
SGM

Fun-Tronics or Soda Jerk Works probably sell a bulk (by the foot) gasket that you could make work.
It may not be exact, but close enough.

I would replace the seal. approx. 15-20 bucks.

I agree with Teryy.... Replace the seal..

I just bought some for my Jacobs.. Exactly like the original.

Some of the models you can buy the seal already pre-formed. Just line it up and away you go.
Why bother putting the old one back when you got the chance to replace it. It'll look much more pleasing on the eye.

I agree with everyone. For as little as it costs just replace it. They are easy. It is sold by the foot. You just cut what you need and super glue it together. It is easy and looks good.
