Title: Vendo 83 - How many different versions? Post by: csiwannabe on October 11, 2007, 04:09:51 pm I am new to collecting and am starting out with a common model, the Vendo 83. It is unrestored and in very good condition. I am wondering where I can find more information on different "versions" of the machine. In particular, placement of the bottle opener and cap catcher. Most of the photos I have found show a bottle opener in the center of the machine. My machine has a removable bottle opener/ cap catcher piece located over to the left side of the machine. Where does this model fall in the progression of the different versions of the 83?
Thanks, Beth Title: Re: Vendo 83 - How many different versions? Post by: collecture on October 11, 2007, 05:04:54 pm Welcome Beth!
There has got to be at least 5 different versions that I've seen. One has a coin door on the outside. Two has a wide stainless steel band across the top Three has the external cap catcher like yours. Four has the bottle opener recessed in the center and the cap catcher at the bottom of the main door. And I just saw this fifth one, which has a selector allowing the customer to choose their flavor. (see pics below). Title: Re: Vendo 83 - How many different versions? Post by: Jim on October 11, 2007, 07:35:52 pm If my memory serves me, the V-83 was one of the longest running manufactured models from Vendo during the 1940's - 1950's... With this said, there are several versions as collecture has stated.
I'm not sure by viewing the posted photos, but the latter usually has some form of a rotary handle to rotate the drum to an appropriate selection via the clear vending door, then the patron would deposit the money which would allow the door to be lifted to retrieve the product. Seller posted a $650 asking price - but I have no interest in it. Jim -I can go down and see if I can take better pics of it for you if you want them. LMK and I'd be happy to do it. |
