Title: looking for R12
Post by: SquareTopCollector on September 18, 2007, 09:48:27 pm
any ideas on how to turn up some R12? I need to recharge 2 machines. I figure just posting a want ad on craigslist. I hear it is expensive. Maybe its time to convert to 34a

How many pounds do you need? I know where a few hundred pounds are at i'll see if they will let loose of any. going rate locally a few months ago was $25.00 lb.

I have a 10lb tank of the stuff for sale.  But i think the shipping would be expensive and considered Haz-Mat  for the shipping companies.

Good Luck

one lb should do it. Shipping may be a problem

If you are not a pro at HVAC I highly suggest you find someone to do it for you. I once thought I could do it myself and went out and bought all of the tools and ended up wasting my money. If you go get someone who is licensed they will fill it with a replacement to R12 and it will be done right. If you mess it up in any way you could permanently damage the system. What I always did was stake out an HVAC company and when a driver would go to his van I offered him cash on his time off to work on my machines. 99.999% of the time they will be glad to earn the extra cash.

thanks josh I will do that.

I just gave both of my cars a boost of R34a so I thought I could do the same to the soda machine with the r12.

I kept an ad in a local paper for 10 (1) pound R-12 cans a guy was selling. They were pretty cheap if I remember correctly. I even called him up and we spoke for a little while. He wanted to sell them all but I only wanted a few.Never followed up on them, maybe I will.

Yeah...watch the shipping and the haz-mat thing.
I've had problems proving there's NOT R12 in the systems
when I ship.
