Title: Mutiny On The Bounty! Post by: collecture on August 18, 2007, 02:52:26 pm Well - Sorry Jim (I am blind). I tried to attach a file, but I had it resized at the old limit.I didn't even notice the topic at the head of 'General Chit Chat' the first time I tried to post this.
While we were on out trip to TX recently, I did manage to stop at a few antiques shops. I did not find much that interested me, but this did and I though it a pretty good deal for $20. Copyrighted on the back - 1935 Turner Entertainment Co., All Rights Reserved If you can tell - MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, CHARLES LAUGHTON, CLARK GABLE and an OUTLINE OF THEIR IMAGE are all embossed into the tin sign. It is in good shape with some fading, one tiny 1/4" bend on the left side between the 'C' in Charles and the 'L' in Laughton. Mainly there is what I think is masking tape residue on it and it looks like some paint loss due to the tape being pulled off. I'd like to clean it, but not sure if I should. I did a search on eBay for something like it and came up empty. Anyone ever see anything like it? What would you clean it with? Title: Re: Mutiny On The Bounty! I hate to say it, but I don't think it's an antique. Turner Entertainment was a spin off in the 1980's from Turner Broadcasting, (think Wizard of Oz, American Movie Classics on Cable) after Ted Turner purchased the old movies from MGM. The movie was released in 1935 (hence the copyright notice) and won an Oscar for Best picture. I've no run into this particular one, but I see the tin stamped signs of classic movies at flea markets, antique sales, and trade shows all the time, anywhere for #10-20, so you you didn't overpay. That did cross my mind, but I did not make the Turner connection. I didn't figure for $20 I could go that wrong. The other item I bought, which I just thought was kind of cool was this. The wife wants it in this antique style bathroom we have, but I am thinking I am going to put it over a bar and fill it with small airline liquor bottles. "Pick Your Poison!" Well my first reply seems to have gone to never never land. I agree with Kilroy. Great wall piece at $20. Goo-Gone will get the tape residue off but may take some paint also. That is an outstanding display box!! Vintage patent medicine bottles filled with the posion of your choice would look cool!! Creighton Title: Re: Mutiny On The Bounty!
