Title: Restoration progress
Post by: racerx45 on April 08, 2003, 02:44:46 pm
I just started a restoration project on a 1940’s fountain dispenser and have decided to post the progress on my wed site. I just thought I would let the forum know so that they could check it out. I will also post updates in the forum so you’ll know when there is something new on the project.

Any feedback is always welcome.

I guess I should include a link to the web site.

OK I have updated my site with some more pic. Nothing-big just taking things apart. I should have one more update before the weekend, and then I think it will slow down as the real work begins.

I'm one of the few that voted, and I voted to include dispensers and coolers.  Visiting your site, I am glad I did.  You have some interesting items, good pictures, nice of you to share.  I came to this website after buying my first soda vending machine.  And, I have much to learn and quite a project before me.  Seeing yours and other members projects is helping to keep me motivated.  Love the diversity.

Well the metal strippers have done a fine job (and fast 3 days). So I have every thing back now and can start restoring. The latest pic are up now too.

Looks good Steve!

What have you decided on for the badges restoration...?

Jim-
Glad you asked, yesterday I found a place that restores old enamel badges. First the bad news
1.   Very expensive (about $250.00 each and I have 3 of them so….)
2.   Time, they said it would be 12 to 16 weeks!
3.   Did I say EXPENSIVE?
Now the good news
I found out a lot about enamel, it is a glass product that bonds to metal (copper) and is used in jewelry, old car badges and a few other things. I also found out that they do the enamel first then the chrome plating (the temp used to melt the glass is much higher than what the chrome can handle). This was very good new as the Coca-Cola plates where chrome plated first. So know I know the reference to the badges/plates as “enamel” is either incorrect or it refers to “enamel paint”.

Oh I forgot to give you an answer
I will have them re-plated and then painted

Steve,

Great job on the web site! Bet that was an exciting day when the tank failed :-)

Thanks for the badges update. Didn't think true enameling would be that much, wow.

Just  quick update, Nothing new on the web site. I have been very busy at work and not had as much time to work on the project, I have started to prep the body and have been cleaning up the chrome trim. I should have some new stuff on the site next week.

I have updated the wed site with a section about Dispenser Literature. I don’t have enough new stuff on the project (body is taking more time due to bad weather i.e. curse of the back yard work shop). I thought you might take a look at this to hold you over until I get more done on the Dispenser.

Enjoying your updates.  Tried the letter link, it did not work for me.  The file extension looked like Adobe, I have it.  Not sure why it did not work.  Will try again another time.

Yes it is a Adobe file. You need Acrobat Reader for it to open. It should just open up.

Ok I have finally updated the project. I have bee very bust at work and the project has suffered. The site now has a few pictures of the body work and one of the Coca-Cola badge after being chrome platted.
