Title: V81 photo
Post by: bubba on August 15, 2007, 01:51:49 pm
Someone sent me a picture of a v81 and we are trying to figure out what is going on at the back of the machine? Is this a welded patch, or just a crappy photo?

Bubba,
The photo isn't really clear but the machine looks normal. What are you seeing that you are questioning?

My vote is scratches all along the edge with a decal in the middle.
Must have been up against a rough /concrete wall or something...

But in all reality I hope these next two help, not straight back shots but they clearly show everything you should need to see.

I've never seen one before, but after seeing some of the angled shots, I see what the back looks like. I'm used to seeing a flat back on the machine.. I thought the white lines were damages...

If this is the only pic you have, verify that it is an 81 and not an 80 - quite a disparity in value between the two!

I love getting others into this hobby... My uncle has decided he wants a machine, and is out to find one with a vengeance.

Nice machine but the wiring is horrible, has 2 power cords
comming out the back.
The worst part is that saddle valve clamped in a location
that is seen immediately as you open the door. Some guys take
no pride in their workmanship.

Whats the reason for the 2 power cords? Once for compressor, one for fans?

I saw the saddle valve, but expecting to rebuild the cooling system anyway.

I suspect that 1 power cord is strictly for the bottle door light.

I don't think it is two power cords - I believe the plug end is just stuck back in the hole of the cabinet - there is a line tied in connecting the light.

On another note - anybody notice the Cavalier33 7Up behind it?

Good eye Tom! This guy buys and sells machines on ebay.. The machine is at $1100 and still on reserve... What's a good price for this machine? I've got some interest in it...

It looks like a nice candidate for restoration!
Appears to be complete... I would think that someone buying/selling on greedbay would want top dollar meaning the reserve may be in the $1800+ range...
I would think a reasonable price is around $1300 - $1500
Just my opinion...

Wow.. I didn't expect them to go that much in this condition.

Remember, I'm referring to prices that exchanged hands on greedbay!
I thought the machine didn't look that bad, perhaps I miss judged the condition...  It did appear to be complete down to the coin box and the bottom of the liner looks good as well... All in all, a good box to restore.

I believe Jim was right on the money! But this might be
just the machine for your Uncle. The coin mech. is clean, the vents
are not kicked in or rusted, no holes in the sides from a water
fountain or bottle rack, the floor is rust free meaning the drain
has always been clear so water has not penetrated through the
seams of the inner liner and rusted the floor of the cabinet and
part of the lower back wall, a problem most 81's have.

This machine has original paint, and it is my guess that a good
cleaning and buffing would make it very displayable. (A restoration is
nice but doesn't Bubba still have a V-63 in pieces)?     :help:

I have a V56 in pieces... But I think I've convinced another one of my uncle's to start doing paintwork again.. He used to restore cars as a hobby and extra money.. I may just get this machine finished yet

I didn't think the machine was in that bad of shape either. He knows what they are going for restored also..

Well, my uncle won the machine... He is having it picked up tomorrow... He is already looking for chrome plating, and a few other things... I think I created a monster...

He is going to send me some pictures next week when he gets a good look at it. I'll put up some pics when I get them.
