Title: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 01, 2007, 03:35:37 pm I've got this game on CL, and the guy has it listed as Space Rangers. KLOV doesn't list anything by that title, and none of the space invader series looks like this table. I may have to pick up this one as well since its only about 15-20 min from me.
Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: Jim on August 01, 2007, 05:05:53 pm Hey Ken,
The screen display does look like Space Invaders... But the cabinet isn't... On another note, to help me with the new attachments system, can you tel me if the images you uploaded where larger than those displayed or are they that small to begin with...? (225 x 300) Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 01, 2007, 06:21:40 pm Jim... Those images were that size to begin with.. Did you get my PM?
I spoke with the guy on the phone and he confirmed its called Space Ranger and he bought it from a bar about 30 years ago. I may stop by on my way home tomorrow and have a look at it. I dunno where it will sleep yet if I bring it home, but we'll see. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: Jim on August 01, 2007, 07:04:22 pm Hey Ken,
Thanks for the info on the image attachments sizes! I can't seem to get to the PM... I see that I have 1 message, but it's not showing in my inbox...? I'm not sure I like the PM System I've installed... We'll play with it over the next few days and see what can be done... I'll send you a PM as well... Thanks Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 01, 2007, 09:11:15 pm Jim... I don't know what happened, but the pm I sent isn't in my outbox.. I also haven't received one from you either...
In the CP, /forums/attachments tab, check the box to Display image attachments as pictures under post: and also the one under it for resizing.. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: Creighton on August 01, 2007, 09:50:29 pm Ken,
I can't see the photos on this puter. Where are you finding those settings? On the old board? Thanks!! Creighton Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 02, 2007, 05:21:41 am Ken, I can't see the photos on this puter. Where are you finding those settings? On the old board? Thanks!! Creighton Creighton... That setting I posted is in the Admin Control Panel, and its for changing the link representing the image to displaying the image. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: dprat1 on August 02, 2007, 11:12:27 pm Just an opinion from an "old" Space Invaders Pro... Think yours is an earlier version. I was one of the best here, Space Invaders, Asteroids and not too bad at Galaga later. The wife was pretty proud of me then ::) Hummm.. and she's still hanging around....I'm a fortunate man indeed ;D

Its not listed on any of the gaming sites I've found, no manuals, not even a google search. The guy wants $100 for it... I may just have to grab it on the way home tonite...
I liked Space Invaders, but it wasn't a top game for me.. my buddy just got a rebuilt SI for his birthday from his wife... I'll be checking it out this weekend. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: Jim on August 03, 2007, 10:25:22 am Hey Doug,
Did you play Deluxe Space Invaders as well...? If so, do you remember some of the tricks to get additional points...? I vaguely remember the one where if you count your shots and hit the flying spaceship on the Xth shot you'll get 500 pts(I think it was 500...?) The other trick I used frequently is to leave one of the bottom men from row 1 or 2 and shoot this invader last clearing the screen. I cannot remember the amount of points but it displays light show of sorts on-screen. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 03, 2007, 08:28:03 pm Well, I stopped by to check out this game tonite.. It reminds me of something that Sears would have sold years ago when Coleco was out. It was coin -op space invaders type of game. It almost looked like a Space Armada from Intellivision... Anyway, the monitor had a huge red band through the middle of it. It didn't hinder the play, but looked horrible. It was even visable with the game off.
I passed on it.. I've got too many toys right now anyway... Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: dr galaga on August 04, 2007, 09:44:22 pm There were a ton of Space Invaders pirates out there (Space Armada was one).
The red band probably is supposed to be there. In the older black and white games, they would put color bands on the screen to add color (think Breakout). Check out this pic from KLOV: Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 05, 2007, 10:53:36 am Interesting... I would have never thought of that... It definitely didn't look good. I couldn't imagine it being a selling feature.
Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: Jim on August 05, 2007, 03:34:17 pm If my memory serves me, Space Invaders Deluxe had a three color, well technically two color, laminate that had two color bands along the top and bottom with the center clear.
Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: dr galaga on August 05, 2007, 04:02:10 pm It definitely didn't look good. I couldn't imagine it being a selling feature. But...put your self back in the late 70's when there were only black and white games - the color bands were an improvement. Title: Re: ID this game please Post by: bubba on August 05, 2007, 08:48:40 pm I don't remember the SI deluxe game... When I started pumping quarters, it was in the mdi 80's....Dig Dug, Pole Position, and that generation. Asteroids and SI were still around, but not the top dogs anymore.. I don't remember the colored overlays, but that must have been what it was.. It did add a color to the game, but it was only a 3" wide band in the middle of the screen. It looked like poop.
