Title: USS-8-64  Before and after
Post by: trainer57 on July 13, 2007, 10:20:40 am
I just wanted to thank you for all the great information and sharing that takes place here.

I have been visiting for last 4 months and I must admit I am a much better reader than writer.  If I had a question, a little reading and I would usually find i would usually find the answer.

I finally found a Cavalier machine on ebay that was close enough to home that shipping did not kill the deal.  I did take a few chances and I believe I came out on top.  The guy selling it found it in a building he had bought and it was his first sale on ebay.  It did not have a plug or key so I wasn't sure it would work but the box loooked good so I bought it.

Well, when I got it plugged in it cooled great, and the vending mech worked as well.  When I got a key and got inside I found about 20.00 in change in the machine, the newest coin in there was from 1981 so it appears the machine has been resting awhile.

In order to keep peace at home I had make a deal to retsore it to look cool if I wanted it the bar and not out in the garage.  (WE are not big fans of fake woodgrain)

Well here I the results, I am about 95% complete... I still need to get the condesation out from between the door windows, get some labels for the selection knobs,  and see if I can make the condenser noise a little quieter.

Thanks Again I could not have done it without you guys.

Jay

Oh Yeah.......... looks great.  The USS 8 64 is the only machine I have.  I love it.  It's "original" and will be for a while.  I'm finishing up a year long effort on a 1947 Oliver Row Crop 60 (Tractor) and will need a break after that !

You did a super job.  Keep us posted about the condensation on the door window.  I'm fighting that battle as you know.  I did get the P-trap hooked up & working today.  Also got the temp settled in at a reasonable level.  I swear the humidity has been brutal here since I started trying to solve the problem.

Glad you got it in the house.  I don't think I'll ever get mine in !

Good work !
Bob

Agreed, it looks very nice.  Also they don't stop at one,  once you have one before you know it you'll have a couple.

Hello Jay,

Welcome and I'm glad to hear SMC helped in some way to get your machine not only redone but also moved into the house ! ! !
Congrats on a good job and as others have said, be careful as I can see another machine in your future...

Thanks for the kind words.

It is official. The machine  did make it in the house.  The after Picture was  taken before the better half saw the finished product.  (She was on a business trip)

As for the next one... I don't know.  I live near Savannah and finding this one close enough is a bear.  Finding anything is tough actually.  I was lucky to find this one. The only one that might get approval would be a round top. Or I would be happy to lend ahand to help a freind with thiers.

Does Anyone have Labels for the Knobs??  I am interested  in the normal ones...Coke Sprite Etc as well as Corona, Miller lite etc.

Any help would be apreciated

Thanks again Guys
Jay

PS
Creighton
That car in the corner of the before Picture is not a a Ferrari Just a corvette convertable.  (Thats my other toy)

Savvanah - I thought you'd be tripping over yourself down that end of the world, with roundtops.

The home of Coke is only down the road.

Dave

Y'know Jay...........this statement may have been true until now.  But you have been bit! You just restored your first machine and there are now going to be other machines just following you home.

There's a hundred people here on this site that just "fell into" their first machine. Now they're addicted. They bring home these old machines knowing they will consequently spend the next few nights sleeping on the couch. But just owning one that has been re-done gets your friends asking if you would be on the lookout for another one for them.

Pretty soon one of the walls in your garage gets dedicated to lining up these facinating dispensers. And it doesn't stop there.........candy , gum, popcorn , signs, neons, gas pumps.  There is no cure for this addiction so we suggest you stay posted to this site to learn what's hot and what's not before it comes your way.

We have a guy on board from England,(forgot his name) who once said the same thing, that this stuff was hard to find.  He has now run out of room and his wife has even joined us looking for therapy for him  :D

Welcome aboard and thanks for the pictures!

Jay - nice looking machine. You can find some info on labels in this thread and you can find the file I use to make labels here.
