Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: on February 07, 2007, 11:25:32 am Just got a near mint Westinghouse WC160t. It is a very large machine. Can someone point me to more information on the machine, or can give me some info on it.
Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: collecture on February 07, 2007, 11:29:44 am Below is the info from the Soda Machines section of this website. You can access it from the Homepage.
Please post some pics of your machine if you can. Westinghouse WC-160t -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vending Capacity: 160 Bottles Precool Capacity: N/A Dimensions: 75" high, 35 1/2" wide, 17 1/2" deep Weight: N/A Production Dates: Mid 1950's Price New: N/A Description: The Westinghouse WC-160t is a wider version of the WC-96t. The WC-160t came with a "White Top" paint combination with a "Refresh Yourself" plaque mounted on the front door at approximately eye level. Since this machine is wider, Westinghouse added a second bottle chute to aid in dispensing bottles from the wider vending rack. The model WC-160t could vend either regular or king-size Coke bottles. Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: on February 07, 2007, 01:13:50 pm Thanks for the info. I need more info. Where can I find any manuals on it. Would like to know if there is a certain way you have to load drinks in, (What slot do you start with first? I have several Selectivend Dr Pepper Machines, and this one is a monster compared to them. How do other collectors feel about this machine?

For a manual, I'd check www.colamachines.com or www.sodajerkworks.com or call Steve Ebner at Fun-Tronics (301) 371-5246. I have a S-48 SelectiVend also. Post some pics of your machines when you get a chance - we all love pics here. Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: on February 08, 2007, 09:38:27 pm The coin mech. only accepts dimes and vends fine. It rejects nickels. quarters do no fit. It is missing the money box, and the change tube. The coin mech is a National Rejector model: 1-02-049-ND. I have included pictures. Does anyone have one of thes machines, if so, will you please post a pic of the coin mech area, so I can see what is missing.
Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: collecture on February 08, 2007, 10:32:24 pm Nice looking machine - even if it is a monster!
That is the same type mech that is used in a lot of machines. As far as I can tell, nothing is missing from the mech. The rejector is missing the knockout arm, but it should not affect operation. It's only purpose is to push washers off the washer retaining wire when the rejector is scavenged. Your mech should vend on two nickels or a dime - the rejector is probably dirty. I disassemble the rejectors completely, but yours looks pretty clean. Some people put the whole thing in the dishwasher or boil it - just make sure that you remove the cover plate with the NRI decal (nut/lockwasher and bolt/brass washer). To remove the rejector, pull the small spring steel clip slightly out to the right and swing the rejector out. Loosen the screw above the magnet to remove the magnet. Clean the magnet and the mainplate underneath the magnet. Replace the magnet. On the backside of the rejector, you will see a triangular looking access hole in the rejector mainplate. Clean the anvil, which is accessible through that hole. Also, make sure the two bolts securing the anvil (located next to that access hole) are tight. The nickel is first tested by diameter (size) as it passes the cradle test and is directed down the rail towards the magnet. It is tested for composition as it passes under the magnet. Finally, it is tested for resiliency as it bounces off the anvil. Usually, the cradle does not need adjustment, but the path of the nickel must be clean and dry. NEVER use any oil on a rejector - it will only gum up over time! I hope this helps. Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: BrianB on February 09, 2007, 08:02:18 am Welcome aboard Txcollectables! To understand your coin mechanism, compare it's operation with that of the Selectavend you have in the picture. They are the same. Is there any defference in the models?
Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: collecture on February 16, 2007, 12:07:19 am Normally, the MD series machines had several selections, which would be dramatically different from your model.
The wiring in yours is very simple - mainly power to compressor and fans, etc. The MD would have selectors, switches and relays, etc. and no crank handle. Other than the dual chute, it looks pretty darn similar to the WC-42T inside and out. For the 42T, my manual says this about loading: 1. Load by inserting the bottom bottle in each stack, past the bottle retainer, crown end first. Place neck of bottle on the bottle guide bracket at the rear of stack. The butt of the bottle will rest on the vend disc. Press bottle to the rear of stack. 2. Load a second bottle in each stack by merely inserting it past the bottle retainer and allowing it to rest on top of the bottom bottle. 3. Loading can be checked by turning the slotted yoke clockwise approximately 110 degrees or one complete cycle of the vending assembly. Be sure to have your left hand ready to catch the vended bottle from each stack. NOTE: Make sure the slotted yoke is turned as far as possible to prevent the mechanism from locking on the next cycle. 4. Make sure bottle retainers are free and centered to hold two rows of bottles in place. Push bottles to rear of stack if necessary to free retainers. 5. Make sure slotted yoke and coin mechanism shaft pin have returned to their normal rest postition before closing door. There is a lot of other info on the vending cycle etc. I hope this helps! Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: collecture on February 16, 2007, 05:49:18 pm I dug a little deeper into my manual - it is one of those 3-inch binders that covers almost all the soda machines by the major manufacturers of the 50's.
At the back of the Westinghouse section, it has schematics and parts list for the WC-42T, WC-96T and the WC-160T. All three machines used the same parts in most cases - like the coin box. I think I have a coin box also if you are interested - let me know and I'll check. So, I think my post above should answer your loading question as they appear to be just varying sizes of the same machine. Title: Westinghouse WC-160t info Post by: sodamuseum.com on February 16, 2007, 10:54:30 pm No, you definitely dont want the MD manual, that wont work. I do have the Installation, Operation, Service and Maintenance (with Trouble Shooting charts) and Part Replacement - Major components sections for the WC-42T, which may help if put with the stuff that collecture has. I also have the parts list for the WC-42T, WC-96T and WC-160T with exploded views if you want that too. Just PM me your address and I will send it all over to you. Check out my other manuals and see if you need anything. If I have an extra copy of any of it laying around that you need, I will drop it in the mail to you.

I wanted to find a manual before I loaded the machine. This is the only machine I have that loads this way. I am use to the Selectivends, and the chest boxes. Found excellent resources here. Thanks!
