Title: New Bar Room at new house
Post by: SIGNGUY on January 02, 2007, 11:38:19 pm
As some of you know I recently moved from the Minneapolis area about 2 hours east into Wisconsin. We'll after lugging machines and packing up delicate signs I finally had a chance to work on my bar room downstairs for my collection of "Stuff". The Room was built in the 70's, and I was going to redo it but just no time or money... so I just left it the way it was. They made it look like it was an outside patio, hence the fake windows on the walls and the facade of a fake roof line that lines the top of the room all around. I thought somewhat retro so I'll go with it for now. Finally had some time over the holidays to unpack some stuff, move some machines around and kinda set it up. Here is what I have so far...Of course the wife had some input as this is also our lower family room with furniture and a TV, but as we all face, I want so many things out of "My" Room, just lack space.. so I try to cram as much as I can. I still only managed to get about half of my Coke Signs up on the walls, 2 Vendo's into the room so far along with the Seeburg Juke and "HER" MS Pacman machine.  Still working on getting the V56RT down here... we'll see... thanks for taking the time to look...
Later
Signguy/John

Your room looks good.   Nothing wrong with the retro look at all.  Nice collection also.

Nice set up.

Those are different colors on that Eco 98 air pump, what company?

I also see you have the same situation as I have with all the kids toys to store as well. It can be a trick to have somewhere to store everything and keep the place looking somewhat displayable.

I like your signs. That large Self Service porcelin sign would cover the window above it nicely.

The Eco Pump is done up in Ford Blue and white, but It will be repainted to Texaco Colors when I get my Gas Pump Painted this spring.
Thanks for the kinds words on the room, it's coming along.... and yes Cormy, it's hard to keep the KIDS STUFF and DADS STUFF in the two seperate rooms, but they're getting better at it...

Really nice! And yeah Glen has a great idea... I'd just take out the fake windows and replace with those SWEET!!!!!! signs you have!
Also is that a cooler salesman sample on the shelf behind the counter?
and come on put those dispenser where they belong ....on the counter!
:D  giving you more room for stuff on the mantle... See....
we're making more room for you already :D
You have a great collection.... you still gonna do the Smoothie Rootbeer
machine?...
Also... nice crate by the couch ... a hard one to find in great condition as
yours.
Wish I had a basement as nice... my house was built in 1911.... so a
stone basement.... not so great.... but the next house.... a MUST! :hopefull:

Believe me after this past year that's how I feel!
The tearinf off the old back porch and putting on the new
one has become a nightmare... The house, after all these years,
has settled some so after we started putting up the new porch
I noticed it looked crooked... well, it's not but since the house settled
it appears so.. So we have to raise one side of the porch roof 4 inches
so it will go evenly along the roof of the house.... :D  My
dad is a structural engineer and it drives him crazy....
Build it straight it looks crooked so we have to build it crooked to look straight... :D  Love old houses!

Yes, It's a Salesman Sample Cooler an the shelf by the bar... It was my grandfathers actual sample cooler that he used when Selling Coke back in the day... Quite a keepsake... still has the cards on the inside but he got rid of the case years ago...said it got in the way??? wish he knew it added value, but oh well. I'm glad I have it!...

Wow how cool is that... NO wonder you collect Coke... Can you image the cool stuff he had, seen and helped throw out!
A few years back I hunted down about 4 men that worked for Coke in my home town (One owned the 39 I now have)... Aghhhhh the painful stories
they told.... and the machines they took by THE TRUCK LOAD and dumped!
(And yes I went to the dump... they were used to fill in a sink hole Long gone!)  :darn:

Oh Yes... I have stories... I think I've told it a few times on other posts, but the abreviated version is My Great Grandfather had a bottling plant that my grandfather and his brothers worked at, then they bought into the Coca-Cola Franchise right after WWII and opened in Pine City MN. Later they opened 3 more bottling plants and each brother ran one. It was a good business venture for them and they sold all the plants in 1989 to a bigger outfit out of Minneapolis. They're where many stories of items recieved at the plant and what was thrown out. My father worked there from the 60's on and remembers hauling machines to the dump by the truckload when they where taken off routes. Back store rooms "Cleaned" out every year to make room for new advertising items... .and on and on... i managed a few things out of my Grandfathers house...which I'll keep forever...

As far as the stories, you know what they say about hindsight...

When I talked with those old timers it was buttons signs used for sleds or
target practice, cardboard signs used for insulation in barns, machines gutted and used for ice boxes... on and on...
I still think that there's got to be a warehouse out there full of stuff just sitting in some small back road town....
