Title: Find of the week
Post by: Marvin on December 29, 2006, 09:44:28 pm
This was on Ebay kind of close to me.  I bid on it, did not meet reserve and the guy contacted me and said I could get it for my high bid.  I went and got it yesterday and took this pic last night.

This is more like the find of the year for me!

Thanks for the compliments guys.  My wife had a fit about me getting it so unless something else falls into my lap this is it for a while.  As far as I am concerned between the Milk Machine, Pepsi 81 and a Coke 81 I don't feel I need much else.
It's not super straight, but between the other stuff I picked up recently it should not need very much.  The cabinet has a few dings but nothing major.

Thanks again guys

Since we are on the topic of this machine (and I need more posts to become a jerk)

What paint scheme would you use on the machine?  Single color or two tone?  I am leaning for the two tone but want other opinions.

Marvin Great Score!... Tell your wife you got a deal cause...well... you did Hey!!!!.It's a embossed
PEPSI 81 brother!!!!!
As far as color schemes.... it's whatever YOU like...
me...  I traded Joey some stuff for the one he had
and I'm going all blue like it originally came with a
red 10 cent decal that goes above the coin bezel then the large Yellow square decals for the sides...
Two tones are nice but I have a 72 all white door
and a all red Vendo 39 so a all blue is gonna look killer!
Red, white and blue!! All in a row.
Here are some images of what mine looks like now
and the color scheme.

My vote is the original all blue with white lettering.

Looks like a nice complete machine!
Nice purchase! I wonder what happened to the Coca-Cola (or other brand) sign that was mounted to the front...
I personally like original paint schemes; I like all blue with white lettering.

Funny thing about the wife is we were expecting a baby on Jan 25th.  She had the baby on Friday 12/22.  He is healthy and pefrect, but if she had not had him before I bought the machine she would have for sure gone into labor after I told her about it.

Great score Marvin. I don't know if you tried this or not,
but show your wife Jeff Walters book. It lists your machine in average condition at $2800.00, and restored at $5800 This is not an expenditure.........it is an investment!  How much will it be
worth when your new son is ready for college?

On another note.  I see several members have chosen to
start their topic as find of the week. Well as we all know, the
"find" is the most exiting part of this hobby. I enjoy reading these
the most.
If we had a section titled find of the week, before long
newcommers to this site could read back on all these great
stories.  What a rush !!!!

Congrats, Marvin! I did mine two-tone and it looks sharp, but it's up to you. It will look great either way!

Marvin,
Congrat's on the baby boy and the Pepsi 81. I was watching this up until the end. (I was at work). I didn't bid because I figured it was going to sell for 2800+ and I'm still waiting for a deal like you got. Way to go, you stole that machine. This machine's on my wish list!

Thanks again guys.
Moondawg, I have shown her the book so many time about different machines that she probably knows it better than I do.  She understands why I buy / sell stuff, but with the new baby and her not wanting to return to work in 6 weeks she gets stressed.  So I told her I have to buy more stuff to sell!!

When I first got into this hobby, I asked the wife If I could "borrow" $1000 out of our savings to buy a "Couple of Coke Machines" she almost had a cow. We'll I bought two machines with that and little cash stash I had and later sold one of them for 1800... put the Money back and had some cash to start with. From then on, I have not used ANY of our Household money to buy my "Stuff"... if you can swing it I'd try that.. .and then of course once in a while buy her or the kids or house something nice and your' pretty good to go..That was over 10 years ago and it's been great.. Just an idea.... and of course you have to be able to buy and sell well to build up some cash reserves. I'm sure glad I got into this rather than some other Non Cash Producing hobby!!!! :happydrinkers:

Signguy's right,
I keep re-investing my restoration money into my shop and inventory. I keep telling my wife that when I die her next husband is going to be set!! :D

Thats what I have been doing.  Most of the stuff I have is Gas and oil related and the "lower end" stuff I have has just stayed stable or dropperd in value.  There have been a few large collections flood the market with stuff.  The upper end stuff seems to keep rising and I don't have any of that type.

That is what kind of got me into machines.  I can sit a globe on the shelf and look at it or I can buy a machine, restore it and actually use it.  What could be better than that?  I can enjoy my toys and not just see $$$ sitting on a shelf.
