Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: BrianB on November 16, 2006, 10:25:29 am Welp, I finally got my hands on a mounting plate and a Coca-Cola sign base for my Vendo Coin Changer. I made the mistake of eyeballing the thread size instead of measuring it and mistakenly figured it to be 1 1/2". So, I went to my local Lowes last night and forked over $19 for a 5 foot section of galvanized pipe.
Whoops!!!! Got it home and uncapped the threads and.......It fit! (kinda) It fit within the threads but was too small!! Looks to be a little larger than 1 1/2". I was talking with a guy at work who knows quite a bit about pipe sizes and he told me that 1 3/4" isn't a standard size. So, would one of you guys out there that has a Coca-Cola "Manhole Cover" sign base help me out with some measurements? #1 - Thread Size #2 - Pipe Length #3 - (not a measurement!) What did you do to cap off the top? (pipe cap/weld, or just leave it open) Any help/photos would be greatly appreciated. Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: Eric on November 16, 2006, 11:31:33 am I'd take it to a place that can thread pipe... What place... I don't know
but there's gotta be a plumbing company or a metal shop that deals with fabricating that can measure the opening and thread a pipe for you. I was just going to leave the top open on the one I had, but I traded it to Joey (the coin changer will hide it) ... As far as heigth I'd make it about 4.5 - 5 foot tall when complete. will look awesome standing by your machine. Here are some pics I think Jim posted a while back.... These may help. Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: bubba on November 16, 2006, 01:20:24 pm Brian-- there is no 1 3/4" threaded pipe as a standard. Looking at Erics' pics, I don't see where it is threaded. Can you take a pic of what you need the pipe to thread into? How about a ID measurement...

I'm not using the same base as Eric used for his. The base on mine is threaded. I had the guy at Lowes cut the threads off of the other end. My stand looks like one of these: Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: Eric on November 16, 2006, 03:59:28 pm That's the base I had too... it was from a Lolipop sign minus the top...
the one I posted here was one Jim posted a while back. What did you pay for your base if you don't mind me asking..... I will have to get another someday.. until then I'm gonna mount mine to the wall.... Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: bubba on November 16, 2006, 08:31:30 pm Brian.. Whats the ID of the hole the pipe needs to thread into?
Title: Vendo Coin Changer Pipe Stand Post by: collecture on November 17, 2006, 12:18:04 am The pipe I threaded into my Coca Cola lollipop base is 1 1/4" I.D. and 1 1/2" O.D. That is also the diameter of my original pipe stand - the changer mounting plate fits well inside it also. I bought a 5 foot pipe at Ace Hardware and cut off a little. My pipe is just under 56" tall from the top of the base and holds my changer just about even with the top of my V81. I beveled the top of my pipe a bit as that is what my original VCC stand pipe was like. It is pictured in the SMC Photo Gallery, but let me know if you want better pics or other measurements.
I bought my base off eBay for $60 plus shipping - I think it was just under $100 total. Unfortunately Brian, I can't remove my pipe easily to measure the base threads. When I bought my base, somebody had welded something into the threaded hole. With a little effort and a Dremel, I was able to remove the obstruction and recreate the thread lines. I cranked the pipe down into it with a pipe wrench, then ground the wrench marks smooth and painted it. Also - the original pipe was not a tapered thread like plumbing pipe is. Thanks for the help! After I got home last night I checked the peice of pipe that I bought from Lowesm to make sure that it was 1 1/2". Turns out that its 1 1/4". I could have sworn that I picked the pipe up out of the 1 1/2" section. Guess not. So...I'll head back to the hardware store after work and get the proper size. Thanks for everybody's help in aiding me in overcoming my own ignorance! |
