Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: davethebirdman on October 11, 2006, 01:24:37 pm Hi Gang
I've had a couple of projects on the go recently. Neither are complete but I thought, in the current climate that I would post a couple of pictures. The first is my dispenser. Now complete with stand. A stand that Eric spotted and told me about. The same stand that Creighton acted as a go-between because the seller refused point blank to deal with a foreigner. I had to pay Creighton via paypal for him to send a cheque. The stand was then posted to Creighton who fowarded it onto me. Without him I would never have got the stand. Creighton came up trumps and for that I am very thankful. BUT I know that at least a dozen of you would have done the same for me. The second picture is the V-56 I got months ago after great support from everyone. It has a new bottle stack in it that, at the price I bought it, I literally stole from Joey, who also threw in other bits. I have used the manual that Creighton kindly sent across. It has a specially adapted slug rejector that Tom worked on and refused to take any money for. The compressor is fitted with a 3 in 1 that Wayne sorted out for me. (not the first time) The crank handle has those hard to find bits that Tom took the time to find and again refused any sort of payment. The compressor is not working correctly and I know that I can rely on the likes of Eric, Glen, Terry and JohnnieG for advice on. Eric runs a business restoring but with the costs involved in shipping there is no way that I could send it to him. But still probably knowing that he still hands out great advice. I know there are people that I have missed out. Josh, who has always given great advice and when I get round to my Jacobs wil be the font and others. I'm a guy that has probably only ever seen half a dozen soda machines in the flesh but I know that if ever I neeed help, on anything not just soda but anything I could turn to you guys. I have never met any of you and probably never will but this site is the very first I check when logging on and the last before I go to bed. Long may it stay that way. There are always going to be disputes. This is not paradise but I am glad we can all club together and sort things out. Having been through a very nasty divorce ten years ago I look back now with a loving wife and two young children and thank my lucky stars I managed to survive. It was tocuh and go but ten years on life is so much sweeter. Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: BrianB on October 11, 2006, 01:48:18 pm Wow!! All of your stuff is awesome! Those 3W1's are especially nice.
It's great to see that the bounds of this site and what people are willing to do for each other is pretty much limitless! Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: sodaworks on October 11, 2006, 05:36:29 pm Looking good Dave, can't wait to get my 56RT next month.

Please tell me that the dispenser is somehow attached to the shelf and not doing a balance act! Title: With a little help from my friends. There is some sort of magic going on - the Coke glass is not under the dispenser spout. Nice stuff Dave - glad I could help! And it wasn't really free - Dave sent me some English tea and a tin of Harrod's assorted shortbread cookies. Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: loman4ec on October 11, 2006, 09:16:07 pm That is a great looking 56! I have always wanted one of those. This really is a great site. I have never seen a closer group of friends on the net.
Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: MoonDawg on October 12, 2006, 10:06:34 am I'm impressed with the 56. Hard to believe this is Dave's first complete machine restoration. ??
Now here's a guy who starts a project and get's it done, despite the disadvantage of getting his supplies from overseas! Most of us spend a lot of time procrastinating before even starting this big a job. Glad you're on our team Dave, you're an inspiration to us all. Title: With a little help from my friends. Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: cormy on October 13, 2006, 10:11:00 am I sometimes wonder how difficult it would be to collect this stuff (soda, gas/oil, classic cars) if not in the US. We are basically surrounded by it everyday and grew up with it. Plus it is easy to get your hands on the stuff at flea markets and the like. Is the whole Americana thing big over there?
Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: MoonDawg on October 13, 2006, 11:19:58 am Dave, did you order a new bottle door or modify your original one?
Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: davethebirdman on October 13, 2006, 11:20:43 am Thanks everyone for your kind words.
Cormy - Jukes are reasonably easy to get hold of but with ebay the market seems to have fallen out of the market. Soda machines are much rarer. We didn't have them ourselves back in the 1950's so all the coke machines will have either been imported by people like me or will have come off of Airbases. We have our own antique collectibles and classic sports cars (E-type Jags, Triumphs etc) But nothing that interests me. I guess I'm in a time warp well and truely living a life in the film American Graffiti. One day I'll get my stepside truck. Wouldn't mind a red london bus or telephnoe box too. Dave Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: cormy on October 13, 2006, 01:08:06 pm I have a freind who ships soda machines and gas pumps and the like to a guy in Switzerland. I'm told he will take any and all and can't get enough!

Post by: jasmine64too on October 17, 2006, 02:29:48 pm Everything looks so good.
Hope your family appreciates all your stuff. My hubby could care less about mine, until someone wants to buy it then he tries to make a deal. Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: jasmine64too on October 17, 2006, 02:46:08 pm Dave, a few months back a guy here had a red pay phone booth just sitting out in the elements in front of his business. It looked like wood. Hubby always sped up when we went by so I couldnt get a good look at it. (probably thinking I buy it if it was for sale).
I havent noticed if it's still there. The next time I'm over his way I'll snap a few pics to share. Title: With a little help from my friends. Post by: davethebirdman on October 17, 2006, 03:19:39 pm Hi Marsha
I know that lots did go overseas. Like the London Bus. There are repro wooden boxes out there too. A company not too far from me restores and sells on Ebay £2100 is about the going rate for a restored shell. Add about £500.00 for the telephone and bits. Last year the Mayor of London did away with the old London Buses. They were being snapped up for a few thousand pounds. If I had space I would definately have had one of them. People have converted them into alsorts. London Black Taxis are still fairly plentiful. Before the kids came along me and the wife had this wonderful idea of shipping one over to the US going acorss the country in it and then selling it before heading back home. I take it you guys must get "Dr Who" on the TV. The Tardis. There was only a couple of original police boxes left. When I joined the Police you were given a key that opened all the boxes. There is still one at the Police College and there was one sitting in Picadilly Circus up until a few years ago when, one night a lorry pulled up a couple of blokes got out in overalls and spent the night dismantling it and taking it away. Never to be seen again. If you have the front you can get away with anything. |
