Title: Quickcold Post by: firemun on September 04, 2006, 08:38:29 pm Hello all,
It has been several months since I was on here and I really miss everyone and the good discussion...but in an effort to get my doctoral dissertation finished...I have had to abstain from indulging in my favorite hobby of messing with these maniacal machines. Writing the dissertation has become my hobby...and I do not enjoy it nearly as much. Now to the point, I had a relapse while visiting my folks and making the annual pilgrimage to the annual flea market in my home town...I passed an old country store with both a Dr Pepper and Pepsi machine on the porch. The Pepsi is rough and not really something I want in spite of being a double dot embossed...but the Dr. Pepper is really nice. Clean as a pin, no rust, paint is still good and bright. Not embossed, only decals. Runs and cools. It is a Quikold and I think it is a 1400-WD2...can not find a model #. Any of you folk familiar with the Quikolds? The guy is asking $600.00...and I don't know how much about Quikolds....first one I have ever seen around here. Thanks for any info. How bad a shape was it?
Title: Quickcold Post by: Eric on September 05, 2006, 08:37:49 am Don't have a 1400 model. All I know is what Jim has posted in the machine
section.. I'm looking for the pre-war Quikold Standard (double lid) or the junior they llok just like the Westinghouse models but embossed in other brands. I have a 7up junior. Quikold was a small company from Ohio... Hard models to find..... Like the Orange Kist one - Had to hit that dead horse again.... should'a bought it post pictures if you can would love to see if the Pepsi is a Quikold. I am pretty sure the Pepsi is an S&S 1400-WD2...it looked similar to the Dr Pepper, but the lids and front grate was different. No badges on it anywhere that I could find. This past weekend was on of the rare times I traveled without the camera...so I have no photos...sorry. Mine had mesh like grates in the interior and you could use water or dry cool, Either way. They are heavy and really not sought after. The guy selling it sold me a Pepsi Slider for $400 and he wanted $200 for the Double-Cola. When I was leaving he dropped the price to $100. That was 6 years ago. I still don't think they are worth much but if the paint is slick and the cooler runs flawlessly You may want to offer him $400 at the most. It's one of those machines that you think you gotta have and then realize it's to big to use on a day to day basis. So you go to sell it for the $600 and well......your stuck with it unless you don't mine losing some money.
