Title: Westmalle Trappist Post by: collecture on August 29, 2006, 02:15:26 pm When I had some restored rejectors up for auction a little while back, I had a guy in Belgium email me concerning his Vendo 81. His coin mech was not working properly and we emailed back and forth. I ordered some dog springs from Fun-Tronics, bought some #6 x 3/8" screws for him and a few other odds and ends. Well, we finally got him up and running. I wasn't expecting anything in return, but he mailed me a care package with 5-6 Belgian beers and a bunch of Belgian chocolate. I liked one of the beers a lot. It was called Westmalle Tripel and had a 9.5% alcohol by volume. I haven't been able to find it locally.
It is a pretty interesting story behind the beer - produced by monks in small quantities and all proceeds go to charity. Here is the website for the beer if anybody is interested. Westmalle Title: Westmalle Trappist Post by: bubba on August 29, 2006, 07:19:26 pm Tom.... there are a few good trap beers... i saved a bottle of one that i had.... i'll check which one it was, but i think they are mostly in some sort of ceramic bottle.
as far as other good belgium beers go, have a taste of duvel. Duvel one thing I noticed is that you must pour into a glass... it makes a world of a difference in the taste.. Title: Westmalle Trappist Post by: collecture on August 29, 2006, 07:53:51 pm I've had Duvel as it is available here, but this one i have not yet found in my meagar search (2-3 places here in town). The Westmalle Tripel was in a 33cl brown glass bottle. the guy had sent me a westmalle glass with which to enjoy it in, but it broke in transit...so a frosted beer mug will have to do.

i knew it had to be imported here somewhere. the label looks a tad different (see pic - if jim has got it set up yet). i could get the guy to send me a case of it directly from belgium for that price. he quoted me $104 (@$135)euro to send me a case. i don't know what exactly he does for a living, but i think he is in the restaurant/bar business as he said he would buy the beer if i paid the shipping. i'll keep checking around - somebody in phoenix probably imports it. i have a good friend in the wholesale alcohol distribution business here in town and i haven't checked with him yet. |
