Title: Large door coin mech
Post by: collecture on August 13, 2006, 11:10:16 pm
Now that I have two large door mechs, I finally got up the nerve to completely break one down. It wasn't as bad as I thought or was lead to believe and I would have been done faster had I not made a few errors in the reassembly sequence. It took me about 2 1/2 hours.
I broke it down, cleaned all the parts of old grease and grim - then relubed, oiled and reassembled it. I did not even look at the other mech either - didn't even pull it out, but knowing I had another was reassuring.
I'll probably do it again in a week or so and see how fast I can do it then. After I am real comfortable with it, then I am going to replate and restore it.
Feeling proud of myself and just wanted to share! :D

Thanks Creighton!
Give me a couple of weeks and I'll be able to do it blindfolded - Joey has one for me also.

Add me to the list.  I have 2 maybe 3 that need to be restored.

Creighton came to town and brought me his large door mech. I broke it down and cleaned it up (he did not want it restored, but kept original). I gave it back to him Saturday night. When I gave it back to him, I pointed out a potential problem area. The stop post on the back of the shaft (where the return spring is attached) was loose. I told him that at some point in the future it would probably come off. As I was showing him the problem, the post fell out. So he didn't get to take it back home with him and just left it with me. Today I broke it down again and 'pinged' the post back into the place. I feel really comfortable with the mech now and can break it down and put it back together in about an hour. If anybody has one they need restored or just cleaned up like Creighton, let me know. I offer very reasonable rates.
On Saturday, Creighton and I met BryanH for some beers at a local joint. It was fun and nice to put faces with names. Great meeting you guys!

Here are a few pics of Creighton's mech! It was in great shape to start with, but was majorly gunked up. It works smooth as silk now.

One more...Creighton wanted to keep the alphanumeric stamps on the side intact.
