Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: on August 12, 2006, 04:07:26 pm The appliance store near me has a vending machine on their truck that will go to the junk yard. I was unable to get the model number or brand because the machine was packed in the truck with other junk appliances. I went through the pictures on this website and I think it looks like the Mayville 280. I asked the manager if there was any thing wrong with it and he said that the previous owner took the coin mechanism and a few other things out of it. He said he also drained the freon so it could be crushed. How much would it cost to make the fridge work if there is no problem with it other than the freon and how much would a coin mech cost? The machine is pepsi/doctor pepper. He said I could have it for free and this will be my first machine if I get it. Does it sound like this would be a good machine to get or is there too much wrong with it?

Coin mech could run you $30-$50, not sure on the charging. I believe in saving things, but do you really want a 700 pound machine? You said that the previous owner took, "a few other things out of it." If it is indeed a Mayville, parts will be nearly impossible to come by. Let us know what you do. Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: on August 12, 2006, 06:57:50 pm The machine isn't near as big as the mayville, but it looks pretty much like it. The selection area of the Westinghouse wc-174-4 looks like the selection area on the machine. You can't see the bottom part of the machine, but from the size it looks like it only has one soda drop.

I picked up a Cav 400+ can beast of a machine from the 70's. That sucker was literally about 1,000 pounds. I put all of $100 worth of parts into it (mostly lamps and ballasts), gave it a good cleaning, printed a large selection of drink selection inserts and turned it around for a profit. Someone gave me $400 for it. Not a bad deal for me. So, if you can get it, and have a way to get it home ... why not pick it up? If nothing else, it will let you learn how to repair and maintain one with a freebie. That way, if you screw something up, you didn't destroy something you paid for. Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: on August 14, 2006, 05:38:27 pm The owner of the machine is one of the managers of the store. When I talked to him today he said that the junk yard will give him 100 dollars a ton for the metal so he doesn't want to give it away. I asked him if he would take 30 dollars for it, but he said he wants 50 dollars. I found out everything is there except the coin mechanism and the freon, which he drained. I asked if they could replace the freon, but they said they are not licensed and cant do it. How much would it cost to have someone come and replace the freon?
Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: MoonDawg on August 14, 2006, 06:59:02 pm If this guy really gets $100.00 for 2000# of metal...........then he gets $25.00 for this 500# machine, so he is stroking you
Don't walk, RUN from this beast! Trust us: Stick with this post, you will find a better project machine, we promise! Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: Skeleton Man on August 15, 2006, 08:36:10 pm They drained the freon themselves, yet they don't have a license to fill it ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it illegal to discharge R-12 or any other refrigerant into the atmosphere ? (a license is required to handle it regardless what you do with it anyway right ?)
A coin mech wouldn't set you back much, but having it recharged with freon could be expensive ! Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: SIGNGUY on August 15, 2006, 08:43:56 pm DIDO Moondawg... Hold out for a smaller, more desirable machine... This one sounds like a beast...and you might have trouble getting rid of it once you do fix it up as I'm not sure but dont think it's a highly sought after machine?? But hey what do I know I only collect roundtops.???
Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: Skeleton Man on August 15, 2006, 09:03:03 pm I guess in the world of soda machines, bigger is not better

Nope. I had that huge machine in my garage for 2 years trying to find a buyer. Everyone wanted the smaller ones. With my USS-8-64 sitting in the garage now, I get someone stopping by at least once a week ... "Hey, is that Coke machine for sale?" Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: audiobeer on August 15, 2006, 11:56:56 pm They guy drains the freon illegaly then tells you he's not liscensed to put it back in. Let the both sides of his mouth kind of guy keep his machine. Chances are the compressor is shot. Either way run don't walk away from this one.
Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: on August 19, 2006, 10:30:43 am I am almost positive that the machine is a choice vend 168 doctor pepper and pepsi five selection machine. It looks almost identical to the one in Joshua Lomans random machine album on the fourth page second up from the very bottom. The pepsi art on the side is almost the same, but the doctor pepper art looks a little bit older. I am not sure if it is a can or bottle machine. It came out of a 115 year old building that has been closed up for a long time and most likely stinks on the inside. Since the building has been closed up for a long time and it says 50 cents on the machine that makes me think it is a bottle machine.
Title: Chance to get a vending machine Post by: loman4ec on August 19, 2006, 11:49:46 am The choice vend machines are bottle and can machines. They are nice functional machines but they are really heavy. And I mean REALLY heavy.

"Bigger isn't better in the world of soda machines" Ah! my mantra's are catching on at last! Yes, I agree with the thread of this posting, although tempting, belive me sometimes a bigger machine doen't have more ..Er..."luv" to give. In regards to discharge of freon, yes indeed it's illegal call the local EPA & ask if you can split the minimum fine of $1000/per occurance this will help you finance your next machine! (just kidding...sort of ) if it was recovered properly it will have a green recovery sticker with the licence info of the guy who did it, no sticker=bull$#it , you might wish to remind the scrap yard that they aren't allowed to accept any refigeration appliances without this sticker. but enough gruff, I'd pass onthis puppy & you'll find your true "luv" ..er machine... I'm glad to know the smaller machines are popular.. my pepsi squaretop is only like 5 feet tall and doesn't weigh all that much at all.. one man can move it on a simple fridge dolly no problem.. |
