Title: One cent box Post by: davethebirdman on August 12, 2006, 01:38:22 pm Am I right in thinking that this is one of those boxes attached to the soda machine to take the extra penny.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....TQ:US:1 I've asked the seller if they'd ship to the UK and got back the usual "No" in capital letters. Title: One cent box Post by: MoonDawg on August 12, 2006, 02:46:27 pm It's just a shell. No National Rejector in it!
(that must look great in his kitchen huh?) Title: One cent box Post by: Creighton on August 12, 2006, 03:03:11 pm Dave,
If you want it, let me know I'll ship. That would go in the global box $28.00. Creighton Title: One cent box Post by: davethebirdman on August 12, 2006, 03:11:01 pm Thanks Creighton
I wouldn't out of principle. I can understand big items. But little items like that. I've posted home from the US and to the US there ain't much more involved. You know you've done it loads of times. I just don't understand people closing a whole market down. Do they think there is less chance of getting scammed within the US than outside. If they do then they are completely wrong. At that scams conference I went to there was some terrible tales. The Canadian Lottery one is still big. They also told us about the Nigerian Cosmonault who has been orbiting space for the last fifteen years and because Nigeria can't afford to bring him down the family need money to do it privately. If you provide a few 1000 US dollars in return he will split 15 yrs worth of wages running into 100's of 1000's with you. People are doing it. They are sending money to get the poor man down from space. Title: One cent box Post by: bubba on August 12, 2006, 03:43:11 pm People are falling for that???
I think I need to get stuck in space.... anyone care to send money to help my family get me out of space? Title: One cent box Post by: Creighton on August 12, 2006, 04:01:01 pm Hey Dave,
Think most are just too lazy to fill out the forms and make the trip to the post office. Creighton Title: One cent box Post by: collecture on August 12, 2006, 05:54:41 pm I sold a Penny Box a little while back to a guy in Canada for a little over $300. It was in nice shape, complete with rejector, electro-magnets and wiring and I had two newly made keys for it. I bought it off eBay about a year before I sold it for $45 total. It had been mislabeled as a Lance piece because it was included in a box of Lance parts a guy got and he had no idea what it was.
Title: One cent box Post by: 90grad on August 13, 2006, 12:23:14 pm Dave,
Like Creighton said, if you ever see anything over here you want, you can also have it shipped to me in Maryland. I will be more than happy to send it to you. I pass by the post office twice a day. Title: One cent box Post by: davethebirdman on August 13, 2006, 01:29:12 pm Thanks Chaps
May need to take one of you up on that soon. A Dispenser stand I have my eye on will only be shipped US. Unlike the penny box I would really like this item. Dave Title: One cent box Post by: Skeleton Man on August 15, 2006, 07:25:17 pm I agree with Creighton, they're probably just lazy. Some people refuse to even ship to Canada.
Out of interest, if I was to buy a machine from the states and meet the seller at the border (Niagara), would I have to pay customs fees ? Title: One cent box Post by: Skeleton Man on August 15, 2006, 07:27:40 pm btw, how do those 1 cent mechs work anyway ? (ie. putting the penny in that mech and the rest in the other mech)
Title: One cent box Post by: collecture on August 15, 2006, 08:00:18 pm The penny boxes were hard wired into the power source and connected to some sort of block out arm on the coin mech of the machine. Once a penny was inserted, a switch energized an electromagnet pulling the block out arm out and allowing coins to be inserted in the normal coin entry.
Title: One cent box Post by: Creighton on August 15, 2006, 08:34:51 pm Strange but, Canada takes the longest. UK 7 is days CN 12+. I'd have the seller meet you over the border on your side.
Creighton Title: One cent box Post by: Skeleton Man on August 15, 2006, 08:39:06 pm Mail from the states seems to take forever to get here. Mail from the UK to Canada is also faster than the USA to Canada (some weird logic there).
Title: One cent box Post by: davethebirdman on August 16, 2006, 02:00:30 am Its also cheaper to send mail between UK & Canada than it is US. Might have something to do with the Commonwealth. We have just changed to a system whereby the price is based not just on weight but also on size of package. That has and will continue to cause huge problems.
Big items that were fairly light could be sent at a reasonable prices but now it makes shipping with the Post Office the expensive option. Anything by the Government to screw anyother penny out of you. I'm seriously giving thought to getting the #### out of here. But I suppose its a case of "The grass is greener..." Customs fees are set by value right? So claim $100. spent on that old Coke machine. How could they detrrmine otherwise? Title: One cent box Post by: davethebirdman on August 16, 2006, 10:52:12 am Posting this way - Customs set the value on not only what the item is worth but also on the cost of postage.
I imported a Juke once. It cost more in customs fees for the shipping price than it did for the value of the box. Money grabing ...... Title: One cent box Post by: Skeleton Man on August 16, 2006, 01:37:25 pm
You guys are only just switching to cubic weight (instead of just physical weight) ? That's been the standard back home in Oz and here in Canada for as long as I remember. I know what you mean by fairly light big items still being expensive... 10kg in a small box would cost me half as much to ship as something weighing 2KG in a large box.. You have a point there.. not that I plan on doing it any time soon.. (4 hour drive at least) |
