Too bad I don't have any more wall space left in my gameroom. Title: Our new sign Post by: SIGNGUY on August 09, 2006, 04:42:23 pm Even though I'm against any repros of vintage signs... These Look really nice.. I am sure glad you guys are marking them as repops though... I might just get on for the patio...I'd hate to put my original out there....
Title: Our new sign Post by: coke_and_stuff on August 09, 2006, 05:43:11 pm Sign looks great Eric
Joey Title: Our new sign Post by: Skeleton Man on August 09, 2006, 05:56:24 pm That's a neat looking sign ! Were these placed on the street outside corner stores, etc ?
Title: Our new sign Post by: Eric on August 09, 2006, 09:39:35 pm They were placed anywhere Coke would let them... Wanted to do a different size and shape.
Funny I hated repro stuff too... then when the real things went out of sight (even when they're in a grade 5- condition) I decided since I do art why not try to do some nice, DATED signs that guys that like them can hang up and display and not worry when the kids draw on them or scratch them... I have a few mint/near mint originals that I never display because of that... Looking to do a large (18X30) Pause Drink Coca-Cola Next with the sunburst behind the bottle. We did a thinner one of that but I think I like these larger signs better... Title: Our new sign Post by: halehouse on August 09, 2006, 09:50:44 pm I don't mind them as long as they are dated and the sizes are not even close to the originals. The one above for example is 37" tall, where the originals are 54".
Title: Our new sign Post by: cormy on August 09, 2006, 09:59:34 pm I like that sign even though I also hate the idea of reproduction signs. It looks so exact.I am interested how does one go about making a sign like this?? Don't worry I'm not going to start making them in my garage but I have always wondered how signs like these (real and repro) are made. Especailly the painting on metal of the different letters and objects. How does it happen??
Title: Our new sign Post by: kahonwes on August 09, 2006, 10:11:37 pm I'm interested in how one gets metal signs printed, I dont want to make soda signs I want to have some artwork that a friend of mine paints put on steel signage.
k - thanks Title: Our new sign Post by: Skeleton Man on August 09, 2006, 10:23:12 pm
Dated meaning the date/year is stamped on there somewhere so nobody can pass them off an as original ? Title: Our new sign Post by: sodaworks on August 09, 2006, 10:55:30 pm Nice Job Eric!!
I have a few of the different signs that Eric's brother reproduces and the quality is Awesome!! I'm going to buy one of these for my shop. Title: Our new sign Post by: Eric on August 09, 2006, 11:02:18 pm Yeah... they're dated twice really....WE-06 and ©2006 The Coca-Cola Company, All Rights Reserved. Limited Run of 1000
all along the bottom.. The real signs are made of steal and not embossed... these are made of heavy gauge aluminum so they won't rust, are sturdy, the bottle and fishtail shape is embossed so they can easily be identified as reproductions if someone tries to scratch off the dates. And are smaller (too $$$ to make as big as originals) Signs today actually use a thick ink process that is baked on.... no one uses paint anymore (environment stuff... we have looked and looked but if anyone knows of a place let me know.) The last few signs we've had made have been up in Ohio.... They coat them with a plastic film and their quality has been the best... We're getting better. I do all the art on my little PC here at home in a program called Freehand Which is the same program I'm working on decals (hopefuly this fall for all of us) It is all spot color like the old time signs not 4 color process where you see millions of little dots like on the cheap smaller signs.... I'll try and pick up working on the decals again this fall and do some caps and maybe some square logo type areas for the square top machines Title: Our new sign Post by: DanV on August 09, 2006, 11:38:33 pm How much is the sign?
Title: Our new sign Post by: Eric on August 10, 2006, 09:25:52 am 1 sign is $35 - Box of six $156
Title: Our new sign Post by: 64 ragtop on August 12, 2006, 05:29:21 pm is there a website for the signs, do you make more than just this one?
Title: Our new sign Post by: dr galaga on August 12, 2006, 05:44:14 pm Here's their site.
Title: Our new sign Post by: loman4ec on August 13, 2006, 12:34:58 am I can't get the site to work. Is it not working for everyone else?
Title: Our new sign Post by: collecture on August 13, 2006, 12:47:46 am Worked for me.
Title: Our new sign Post by: Eric on August 13, 2006, 10:13:09 am it's www.soda-signs.com
It's something a friend and I put together.... It is a work in progress... Title: Our new sign Post by: ZMonet on August 13, 2006, 05:25:58 pm How do you get around licensing fees to Coca Cola for using their trademark? Or do you not worry about that because of the limited run of signs? I personally could care less about such things, but I'm just curious.
EDIT: It looks like you are authorized. Does Coke have to approve every sign you make? $35 seems inexpensive for all the work I'm sure you put in. Title: Our new sign Post by: Eric on August 13, 2006, 05:29:28 pm We're licensed... Don't mess with Coca-Cola or any other company. There was a guy who was
making Dr Pepper thermometer and push bars... thought he was clear due to the sign company having a license ... they didn't.... he didn't.....he got sued! Pay the fees... Title: Our new sign Post by: sodaworks on August 14, 2006, 01:14:05 pm Gotta watch out for the Coca-cola police. They do follow up on copyright stuff.
