Title: Great little uv light
Post by: collecture on June 23, 2006, 12:22:48 am
I don't know if any one else would get as much use out of this as I have (maybe BryanH), but here it is.

UV light

I bought this little light a few days ago. It is about the size of a small MagLight, but shines an ultraviolet light and works on 3 AAA batteries. I bought it because I have a slight scorpion problem (they nest in certain areas). The guys are hard to kill with normal pesticide and, since I have two small children, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I have spotted and killed probably 40 scorpions in my back yard the past few days (none in the house yet  :)  ).
It is really cool, scorpions light up in the dark like they are neon green.

Here is a quote from their website:
Quote
Unsurpassed in quality and effectiveness, the Brilliant Creations flashlight can be used in a variety of ways.
This device will work with most leak detection dyes and florescent dye penetrates for spot checking.
It is also useful for pest control. Detecting rats and scorpions is a snap with this UV flashlight. It can be
used for lapidary and forensic applications. Security is another area this handy flashlight
can be used by detecting counterfeit bills or illuminating an unseen handstamp at a nightclub or bar.

Tom

I have just told my little boy about your scorpion infestation. He is now out in our back garden looking for some.
He absolutely loves wild life of any kind. No chance of him finding a scorpion in my garden. A frog if he's lucky.

When we were in the US last year we actually saw a Alligator wondering across the road infront of us. Turtles were two a penny. He was in his element.

We are now looking for some sort of reptile that doesn't eat live prey.

Good luck with your Scorpion quest plse don't post any over.

Dave

I think I have finally eradicated them. I ended up killing close to 50 in the back yard - none in the house or front yard. The past few nights that I have gone out, I have not seen a single one. :D

They are hiding....reproducing.......and drawing up the master plan to eradicate you for killing their families.

Everytime I go to my sisters in Austin, I cant sleep because of all the horror stories she has told me of her adventures with the scorpions.

It seems like if they are going to have bad weather of flooding they come in the house.

The kids are great shots at hurling missles of anything handy to kill one.

My brother in law was recently stung after laying his t-shirt across the tub while shaving and put it on and one was in the sleeve.

I cant handle it.

Where does your sister live in Austin? I have two brothers and an aunt who live there. My wife and I lived there briefly in 1990-1991 before we moved to Phoenix. Great town!!

Jasmine,
You need to tell him about this light - it works great!! Well worth the money! Any blacklight will do, but this is nice and compact - easy to hold in your mouth if need be.

I'll tell him he may know about it being military.  They live near Liberty Hill.

If I ever move out there, I'd prefer Georgetown over Austin, but Roundrock for the texas size donuts!
Lots of rocks, scrub and mesqite, a scorpion heaven.

My aunt lives in Lakeway, which has been a sort of a retirement community but in the past few years a younger crowd has been buying out there. It is a nice place. My two brothers live pretty much in the center of town - one is a doctor and the other a carpenter - haven't ever heard any of them complain too much about the scorps - must be out in the rural areas.
