Title: Choice vend 120
Post by: on May 23, 2006, 06:16:39 am
I have a Choice Vend-120 and I dont know a thing about it, other than it cools great and the lights work. Any information would be great. It has an "XR" coin mech . How can I set that to free vend?  I am very new to this so how do I find out how old it is?

These are pics of my Choice Vend 120. I know that it was made at least after 62 but not sure of much else. It is set to vend bottles now. You can see bottles of Cheerwine in the cooler on the right, these are 12oz. bottles

Nice machine!
Are you sure the coin mech is an "XR"?  Look on both sides of the coin mech and see if it says a manufacturer and model number.

Yes, on the box where the augers are, it has the xr decals on it, and to the right of the coin boxe where you see the red white stickers it has xr decals and fuse info.

You can look over in the Coin Mechanism section and hook up a "free-play switch".  Someone else who is familiar with Choice-Vends will have to chime in to say if there is a way to leave it in free-play all the time.
I have my coin mechanism set to 10 cents and just leave a (felt bottomed) container on top of the machine with nickels and dimes.

A lot of the old machines have a wiring diagram pasted somewhere on the machine. If yours is there and still legible, then you should be able to figure out the free play referred to in a previous post as it involves the 9-pin Jones plug, which you have.
Do a search for "free play" and select "this year" and "newer".
