Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: davethebirdman on May 21, 2006, 11:26:33 pm Hello Chaps
My coin mech for the V-56 is in a bad way. Rusted etc. I haven't managed to get it out yet because I still can't find the tool to underdo those silly screws. I think that when I do get it out though it will be beyond my capabilities. Is there anyone here (I'm sure there is) who restores coin mechs??? Dave Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: Creighton on May 21, 2006, 11:35:46 pm Dave,
The coin mech is secured with clutch screws? I'll put a set of drivers in your red cross package. Lets see some pics. Creighton Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: davethebirdman on May 25, 2006, 11:16:37 am Have had a closer look at the coin mech. Hopefully will have it off soon for picutres. I have noticed a wire running to it. Plse excuse my ignorance but what is the wire for. I thought this, like my V39 was a mechanical vend.
Dave PS.. Have just seen this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/COIN-ME....iewItem will it fit my 56?? Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: 90grad on May 25, 2006, 11:49:29 am Dave,
The wire may be to carry a small current to the mech to keep it warm outside in the winter. Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: MoonDawg on May 25, 2006, 12:41:30 pm
No Dave, that auction is for a small door coin mech the same as your 39. The 56 uses a large mech. Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: Creighton on May 25, 2006, 12:52:01 pm Dave,
Wayne is correct. Don't think that eBay mech would work. Not tall enough. Creighton Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: collecture on May 25, 2006, 01:09:05 pm That's my listing.
I have had quite a few question regarding it and the rejectors I have up for auction. One from a guy in Belgium asking if one of the rejectors would fit his 81D. I told him I didn't think so, but send a picture anyway. He sent this shot. Now whether it came this way Vendo or whether someone used this mech in the restoration (paint looks restored), there are some of these mechs out there and they are basically a small door mech in a large door housing. Tom - Here are the pictures. Whilst getting it out a small piece came away. Like a small pointed nail. Not sure what it is. Can't get a close enough picture of it tonight & I can't see where it has come from. Dave Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: davethebirdman on May 25, 2006, 02:38:33 pm A couple more...

That's my listing also. You have a dime mech and a nickel/dime rejector requiring two nickels or a dime to vend. I also have a nickel rejector for auction and it would work for you as well; however, two nickels only would be usable to vend instead of either a two nickels or a dime to vend. For that matter, the complete mech I have listed could be used I think - the only thing I am not sure about is how the small door mech housing is mounted inside the large door mech housing. Is is spot welded in? Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: MoonDawg on May 25, 2006, 03:16:38 pm
This is what you have Dave......and that is good! Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: coke_and_stuff on May 25, 2006, 07:50:32 pm That coin mech is definatly restorable, Stece at the Soda Jerk Works restores mechs
Joey Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: collecture on May 25, 2006, 08:58:13 pm The small door mechs are a snap to restore - it is the large door change-givers that scare me (a little). I feel I could do one though - I've broken down many (close to 30) small door mechs, a few VMC mechs and a few nine pin electronic mechs.
Dave - I'll walk you through that one if you want or I'll do it for you. Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: davethebirdman on May 26, 2006, 01:51:25 am Tom
I'd be glad to have you holding my hand on this. When I get a minute I will have another look at what I have and will e-mail ytou for advice. If it all goes belly up I can always put it in the post to you to sort out. Isn't it great to have pals that know what they are doing. Dave Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: MoonDawg on May 26, 2006, 11:07:44 am Before you get buried in a teardown Dave, here is what you could do...... Remove the small mech. from the large shell. Send the shell out for plating or paint. Meanwhile spray your mech with lubricating oil and sand the rust off the shaft. When you mate them back together they will work fine.
The rust on the slug rejector should clean up quite well with steel wool, but you should dis-assemble, clean and re-assemble parts as you go. Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: collecture on May 26, 2006, 02:00:09 pm The rejector looks pretty bad. I can't fully see under the scavenger plate, but I can see rust under the coin cradle. If the mainplate is severly pitting along the nickel path, then the nickel gets slowed down too much by the pitted surface and won't have the resiliency to bounce off the anvil properly and nickels will not be accepted. You can't really re-chrome it without forking out some money to get a shoulder rivet CNC'd for the scavenger lever. If you can get the chrome taken off sufficiently, then you could have the mainplate yellow zinc plated. I have seen some rejectors done that way.
Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: davethebirdman on May 26, 2006, 02:32:23 pm I have tried putting coins into the mech. The dime will go all the way through and down to the mech at the bottom. I can't crank it round bevcuse the shaft has rusted too much.
The nickle just drops through. I take it it is definately a nickle & dime rejector. Only its almost ID to my V-39 Dime only. Dave Title: V-56 coin mech Post by: collecture on May 26, 2006, 04:16:47 pm Dave,
The dime rejectors look identical to the nickel/dime rejectors on the back, but the front has a different scavenger plate which directs the dime down through the main plate with no nickel coin cradle, no magnet, no wiper blade and no washer retainer. There is also a different cover plate with no anvil underneath and no rail. (see attached pic of a dime rejector) |
