Hi All,
Have some deep pitting and small hole rust through. What can I use to fill these (after rust is treated)? Poked around with a paper clip and the insulation is dry. Don't think the machine was leveled correctly before. Understand pulling the liner and welding a new piece is ideal but not in the budget. This machine is a keeper so just want to stabilize everything until I get a better shop. Unreal the thinnest piece of metal on this box is the bottom of the liner :-(

Fiberglass world seal it great and you could sand it to look like it isn't even there. It would also never rust again.

Anyone have pics of fiberglass used to patch rust holes ? I just find it interesting you can use such a thing to patch metal.. (as opposed to bondo or something)

Here's what I use for aurobody repair (this is what yo are talking about, right Josh). It's made by Bondo and you mix the resin with some hardener, saturate the fiberglass cloth and stick it on. With auto use you then put regular bondo over it. You'll find this stuff in the auto or boat section in stores. I tried to find a pic of just the cloth, but I couldn't find any.

Creighton - IMHO fiberglass bondo is the way to go... Don't know that your holes are large enough to bother with the cloth. You can find bondo with strands of fiberglass in the mix. I find it easier to use (remember I'm a rookie at the body work stuff) as you don't need to worry about feathering over the edge of the cloth.

I would cut out the panel and replace it with new metal..

Hey Terry,
You are right. But this is only a USS-64 and I dont have the tools to correctly patch in a new panel. Been working on it today in between the "honey do's". Plan is to cut out the small rust through use bondo with fiberglass inbedded to fill low spots. Lay cloth/resin over the entire bottom going up a 1/2" on the sides. Hammertone paint and seal with clear silicon around the edges.
The USS-64 has grown on me. Thought is was big ugly at first, but the way it does cans/bottles is cool and it is now a keeper. If the fibergalss plan fails can always pull the liner and do it again. The leg levelers were set to channel water away from the drain hole :-(
BTW. the factory insulation is weird stuff kinda like horse hair in vintage car seats. strange.
