Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: Slacker on May 19, 2006, 05:48:24 pm Hello all, just found this site and thought I'd ask a few questions about a Vendo 6 Case Vertical machine I bought about 10 years ago. When I bought the machine it worked like a charm, cooled good ,cycled ,everything. However my ignorant self laid the machine down for the trip home. Got home plugged it in and no workey. Only after this did I find out that it is not good to lay anything down that has a compressor. I've also heard that a replacement compressor package will slide in to place(slide out old, slide in new) is this true? If so how much? If not where can I get a compressor (if thats the problem)? Also what other replacement compressors will work(refrigerator/freezer)? Thanks for ANY input on this problem.

How long was it on it's back? How long after puting it upright did you plug it in? How long did you leave it plugged in after this? Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: Slacker on May 19, 2006, 10:29:46 pm It was on it's back for about 45 minutes, when I got it home I immediately plugged it in. I left it plugged in for the rest of the night. Next morning is when I found it not cooling. Very disappointing to say the least.
Thanks for the welcome as well as the info. I appreciate it. David Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: Creighton on May 19, 2006, 10:43:17 pm Welcome to the board David!! This was ten yrs. ago? Have you tried it lately? Eric is the go to on these issues.
Creighton Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: dr galaga on May 19, 2006, 10:48:05 pm Few more questions:
(First, plug it back in) -Do both fans work? (underneath and next to the compressor) -Is the compressor running? (you may need to actually feel it, but use a gloved hand since it could be hot) If yes, does it keep running or shut off? -Have you tried adjusting the thermostat? Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: Slacker on May 19, 2006, 11:13:29 pm Plugged it in just now both fans came on. Compressor doesn't seem to be coming on. It also has oil mist coming from somewhere inside the compressor area. The compressor and lines are very rusty probably a pin hole leak from just sitting. I worked the t-stat back and forth and the bottom fan by the compressor will shut off in the off position on the t-stat. On the deck right above the compressor (the evaporator?) the fan in there feels like it's bearly blowing but I can hear it on.

You need say no more. The oil mist you see indicates your freon escaping. Remove the unit from the machine, clean as much rust as possible, plug it in again and see if you can find the leak. I suspect a line may have got punctured or broken in the move. That does not sound good!!! I will try Eric when my schedule permits. I want to thank everybody who responded again. You've been a tremendous help!!!!!! Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: BrianB on May 22, 2006, 06:47:48 am I once had a VF-117 with an evaporator coil that had been accidentally punctured. Fixed it by soldering the hole and then pulled a vacuum on it to remove all moisture and impurities and recharged it now it works like a champ.
So, all hope isn't lost with that original deck! Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: johnieG on May 22, 2006, 07:24:13 pm
Not necessarily, but you'd need all the proper equipment to repair it yourself, such as a vacuum pump,a gauge set, a jug of replacement refrigerant (R12/414A, etc.) and a brazing torch. (about $500.00 in all) not to mention proper training. As you can see, not very economical for a single machine, So, you'd best call on a serviceman, be it Eric at Global, or a local shop...based on what you've describe, My guess is the compressor deck wasn't secured to the machines base, (missing mounting bolt Remember, It's OK to lay a machine down on it's back for transportation, but the minumum rule is for every hour down, an hour up. I'd think perhaps a "turn key" replacement deck would be the ticket in your case, Eric may have a rebuilt deck that will slide in , & perhaps credit you for the reusable parts of your's, or of course, repaired yours, but if one hole is already present, what shape is the rest of the system? food for thought.. PS folks, remember to secure the compressor deck before you transport, inspect it! Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: Slacker on June 09, 2006, 09:36:39 pm I spoke to Eric yesterday and he said about $700 bucks we can get this thing in tip top shape. Thats a total refrigeration replacement package. So I told him to give me some time and I'd bring it to him.

I took a buddy with me and he is contemplating buying a machine Eric had sitting in the shop ,I don't recall the make/model but very nice machine. Title: Vendo 6 case vertical Post by: globalcompressors on July 25, 2006, 07:41:09 pm Thanks for the business, David.
