Title: Jones plug receptacle
Post by: 90grad on April 17, 2006, 05:42:20 pm
All,

I am getting ready to begin rewiring a VMC 56.  I noticed the receptacle for the Jones plug is enclosed around the bottom and the wires are inserted in the bottom like the "Molex" type.  However, on my other VMC 56, the contacts on the bottom of the receptacle are exposed where you can easily get to them.  Were/are there two different styles or am I nuts?

Hi Wayne,
I believe there were at least two types. I had a VMC56 that had the Molex type you refer to. The contacts on it actually just snapped up in there and could be removed from the female side with a smal flat slender tool. My Vendo 80 has the exposed contact style which has screw posts.

Thanks, Tom.  It looked like a Molex-type, but I didn't want to starting messing with anything without some guidance.  I have a small flat tip and may be able to remove the contacts with that.  Thanks again.

Wayne.. there is a tool to remove the pins from the socket. It can be found at Radio Shack or any electronics supply store. Here are some of the variety of tools available...  http://www.mouser.com/catalog/625/1644.pdf

I simply cut a small thin metal piece with my Dremel and was able to stick it in and push the connector over and out.
