Title: Ideal 55 coin mech

can anyone tell me how to remove the coin mech/box off an ideal 55. i removed the two screws on the bottom and the set screw on the flapper. are there two more screws to remove near the top and if so how do i get at them? thanks troy

Sure no problem, first remove the allen bolt/set-screw  holding the flapper/gate onto the shaft, then remove the coin-box and remove the two screws in the bottom & rear of the coin-mech now grab the outside of the coin-mech chassis & pull the bottom out a little & give it a "nudge" upwards with your hand & remove the outer shell of the coin-mech. now you'lll have access to the two upper screws that hold the mounting plate portion of the coin-mech to the machine.

In relation to this topic, I have a question.  I'm trying to remove a coin mech from an Ideal 55, but the set screw that connects the shaft to the flapper looks as if it were twisted off at some point.  The screw head is gone, but the body of the screw appears to be lodged in there.  So the coin mech shaft won't budge from the flapper and I'm not sure how to get the remnants of the screw out to allow it to come apart.   

Two questions:

1) What is the size and style of the set screw that was originally in here?

2) Any recommendations on how to remedy the situation?  Tried drilling it out, but was unsuccessful, seemed too hard to drill out.

The screw that holds the flapper/gate onto the vending mech's shaft is originally an allen-head that set recessed into the threads in the flappers body itself, the allen socket may just be full of crud & looks like it's sheared-off, try digging around witha small nail or other pick-type tool & see if you can "unearth" it.

Which size allen wrench did the screw fit?  Do you know what the size of the screw was?

It's hard to tell because it appears the "threads" have been stripped out, so it's very tight in there with nothing to "grasp" it for leverage to get it out.

      I just checked a slider, and the allen size used is 5/32, the outside thread is 5/16-18.
Someone before you has probably stripped the allen head and that is pretty hard steel to drill out.
      You might try sacraficing an allen wrench slightly (larger like a 3/16"), grind or file the end to bevel just the tip. Then hammer it in so it wedges the old opening really tight. Then a few drops of oil to penetrate and hopefully loosen the thread and a wrench to grip and turn.
      If you damage the flapper thread you can enlarge it or abandon it as it is really not too functional anyway.

Thanks for the advice Glen, I'll give it a try.  That's exactly what's happened -- someone else stripped it out. 

One other quick question -- does the coin mech shaft have an indention that the set screw fits into?

The flapper on my Ideal 55 is off and I see that mine does not have an indentation on it for the set screw.

Even with the set screw removed, the flapper can be a bear to remove; however, as I learned from this board - a little heat and it will slide right off. I don't recall any indention on the shaft.
