Title: Ceramic coin mech heaters
Post by: collecture on February 25, 2006, 07:30:59 pm
When I have rewired my machines, I have always left out the ceramic coin mech heaters that were hot wired to the coin mech. I still have the heaters, but there really is no need for them where I live (Arizona) as I assume they were meant for cold locations. Should I rewire these heaters in? I really like originals and these were part of the machine originally. Originally these had a red colored cloth electrical tape wrapped around the connection. I have only found black cloth electrical tape - is a red still available? Also, were they always in two halves? Thoughts anyone?

With most vintage machines being indoors, I'd think it would be more trouble than it's worth. I left the heater in place on my RT-56 but didn't hook it to power. Will watch for red cloth tape.

Hi Creighton,
I haven't spoken (or emailed) with you in a while. You purchased the NRI tokens from me. I have my V81 on the back porch and while it does get to the 40's (Brrrr :p ) here in Phoenix, I haven't found that the mech works any different. Coins seem to flow through the rejector just fine as long as it is clean. I was strictly posing the question from a purist point of view. I touched one once that was still wired and man do they get hot - make sure it is unplugged for a while before you touch the rejector.

Hi back Tom!!
The tokens have come in handy!! Think the heaters would only help if you had freezing water building up. The cold weather folks will know more. I'm heading to PHX in April, SMC convention anyone?

Hi Creighton,
Glad you have found the test tokens useful. April?? - I am afraid I will be a walking zombie most of April. My second son will be here April 5th, but maybe we can meet up for lunch or something. Let me know when you will be here and we will work something out.

Creighton - let us know when you're here and I'll give you a tour of my shop.  When you come can you bring a nice USS-64 or Vendo81? :p

Thanks for the invites! I had schedule mixed up. It's Albuquerque, NM April first and not sure if we are going to PHX until fall. I'll let all know and bring what I can :-)
