Title: Find of a lifetime
Post by: TheGarbageHunter on February 19, 2006, 11:53:57 pm
Well it finally happened to me! While out looking for Soda Machines, at garage sales, I spotted a beautiful red and white pice of metal. As I approched it I almost passed out. This elderly couple were moving out of state a decided to part with items they did not plan on taking with them, to the Siera Mountains. Basically this kind awsome lady just wanted to get rid of it and let me pick my price. I said fifty dollars and she said its yours. Yahoooooooooooo. It is not pretty but its complet and restorable. Since I am enrolled in an autobody class I will have the door repaired in no time. Vendo 81B.

Thanks for looking :D

I was just out and about stopping by garage sales through some of old neighborhoods. The machine was not being displayed, it was tucked back in the corner of the garage backwards. But there was no denying those beautiful round corners, I new it was a vendo 81. Like I said they simply wanted to get rid of it and where more than happy to sell it for the 50.00 I offered. Its does need some work since they stored outside for 2years and dinged it w/their truck but defenitly restorable. I have a friend helping me w/posting pics, they should be up soon.

You couldn't have found a better model 81, with the small coin door and large letters.  The best part of this hobby is the "find". Thanks for sharing yours with us.

Is there a medallion in the bottle door?

Post by: TheGarbageHunter on February 20, 2006, 04:28:53 pm
YES. At first I thought it was missing, or it had been painted over in red. I touched the front of the area and it is smooth, as if it has a cap on it. But when you look at it through the glass or back of the door, there is a DARK GREEEEN CLEAN
MEDALLION sitting in there. Unexposed to the elements.

I'm running my ad tomorrow....again......  Maybe this time?....
Maybe I should use another name like Joey, Josh, BrianC or a code name
like 1refrescofan.... they seem to fall into stuff here lately! :)

Thanks for everything guys and gals. Especially for allowing me to join this group. I have met several great people that are allways willing to help and offer advise. This was a great buy for me and I am sure I will never come across one ike it again. But behind this great buy there have been a couple of bad ones. This just balances every thing out. I will post more pics as the restoration moves forward.

Thanks and Happy Hunting.    :drinking:
