Title: The horror
Post by: Monkey Boy on February 13, 2006, 09:14:19 am
Well a friend of mine that looks just like Hoss on Bonanza came to work on our crew today....I asked him how the two Labrador pups were that I gave him. He said they are spoiled Blah Blah Blah.... He asked about my garage, and I mentioned that I'm looking for pop machines. He said Darn I just got rid of two two weeks ago at the junk yard. I said were they bottle pull type? He said "Yup"...I said were they round top? He said "Yup".... Then I said #&@*! well somebody got them I guess..... He said  no we destroyed them before we took them there.....I about died, and wish I had never mentioned it. Famous line from Appocolypse Now "The Horror"...... :jawdrop:

I have heard that therapy works.  However, in this case nothing will work. How does the song go?  "suicide is painless"  Theme from Mash.

Chances are very high that if Hoss still had those machines you would have got all excited only to find some large squaretop monsters.
I had a guy tell me he had a machine just like my Vendo 81. When I went to his house to buy it........Yep square corner 56

That's three machines that I've missed out on lately. The other one was a dude my wife works for that runs the local military museum. Someone donated a bottle machine to him, and he didn't want it. He told me so it is my fault...However he didn't describe it very well and it would've been a good one to have. I didn't act upon it by asking for more information, didn't get after it right then, and spaced it off. He told me that it was mine if I wanted it and I said yes...He didn't remind me and sold it instead for like $35. The guy that bought it retrieved $25 dollars out of it. So it only cost him $10. Why O why isn't this my story of good luck? Because I procrastinated, and didn't ask for more details....Never again.

I tell my wife, that in our line of work, I mean "our hobby", you need to kiss a few frogs.  I tell her that everytime I go on one of my excursions.  I too have experienced the old "it seems round to me".  Only to find a wonderful Vendo 56 square top. (Which I always buy for around $35 bucks anyway). On the other hand, I met a wonderful farmer who said to me last Sunday I have a couple of  old jukeboxes in my celler you are welcome to have".  I will post some pics over the weekend as to what I find.  I kiss at least three frogs for every keeper.

Remember, we are collectors/hunters.  We are not successful every time we go on safari. At least I'm not.   I love the anticipation of wondering what's in this farmers basement.  Could it be some hideous record player from the 80s?  Or could it by a Wurliter 1015 in some dark corner of the celler crying out to be restored and placed in my basement maltshop.  If I'm getting a little too deep. please let me know.

Tune in over the weekend.  I am having troule sleeping at night wondering what in store for me on Saturday.

Good hunting.

Eric:

You are so right.  This 1947 GE double chiller was found in a barn.  The farmer stored feed in it.  They let it go cheap.  Here is what it looks like know.  I will try to post the before picture later.

Good hunting!!!

Good Luck Brian, The "Old Farmer" finds can be some of the best finds out there... That is how I found my Vendo 81b. I originally went to this lady's Dads barn to look at what she had advertised as an Old Coke Tub. I figured it was an old westinghouse cooler , which it was. Then when I looked around I saw something blue and upright in the corner. She said Oh that is an old Pepsi Machine, but by brother wants to keep it (she thought)... I asked to look at it and it turned out to be a Vendo 81, Painted pepsi blue with a Pepsi embossed sign Nailed over the Coke embossing. the Machine was complete and in restorable condition. I asked her if for sure her brother wanted it , she called him and said make her an offer. $750 later I came out the barn with a Westinghouse cooler and a Vendo 81B.
Good luck Brian

I consider myself more of an Indiana Jones..... When it comes to the hunt. My wife just considers me a nut, but I just got started and haven't collected a check yet. As soon as I do then I'm sure she'll have a better attitude. :glare:
