Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: BryanH on February 07, 2006, 04:57:45 pm Ducked into the shop (aka the garage) at lunch. Tripped over one of the kids scooters, stumbled and kicked over a box of Ideal55 parts and came to a gentle rest against the V90. Got me thinking that there has to be a better way... The answer of course is to build a shop... Well that ain't gonna happen where I live, so I thought I'd have some fun and see how everyone else copes.
So here's a few pics of my shop... Here we have the tool crib and tear-down areas. Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: BryanH on February 07, 2006, 04:59:29 pm Prep & Paint and final assembly areas...
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: davethebirdman on February 07, 2006, 05:14:04 pm Oh Mate
your garage has got to be at least four times the size of mine. I'd love that space. Here in Egland we'd have three families living in there as well as your Soda Machine. I have enclosed a couple of pictures of the garage, its too dark for the back garden but let's just say its "postage stamp" size. Dave Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: firemun on February 07, 2006, 05:48:21 pm OK, here is a few of my little shop...have not moved any tools or machines in yet.
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: firemun on February 07, 2006, 05:56:27 pm OK....I can't lie... This is Hendrick Motorsports brand new hangar. It is exactly the size of a football field. I was over there last Tuesday for the "foam test" for the fire protection system.
The system has to create 8 feet of foam in 3 minutes...which it did in just over a minute. Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: halehouse on February 07, 2006, 07:38:20 pm Really cooooool!

Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: MoonDawg on February 07, 2006, 08:52:58 pm BryanH....your outside work area would be fine if you could remove the rock and install a floor that could be swept or hosed off. And how about a canvas cover to keep the sun out. Whatever it takes... keep the bondo dust and overspray out of the garage.
Go guys Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: Eric on February 07, 2006, 09:14:42 pm Sweet juke there birdman!.....
Awesome images firemun... and I agree... hate to be the new rooky that gets to clean that mess! Great shops you all... I don't have a garage.... The early Mopars were sleepers but are really making a come back. There was a 71 Hemi Cuda convertible the was featured a few months ago in Hot Rod mag. It sold for 5 million bucks to a guy in Az. The guy in Az. sold another one for 3 million.

Creighton Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: firemun on February 08, 2006, 11:23:17 pm OK you guys have stirred up the old mopar lust...and since this thread is off the rails...
My first car was a 74 charger...came with an unusually weak 400...I put 383 super commando out of 68 Road Runner in it. Like you guys watched in the side view mirror as my meager paycheck disappeared in a white cloud around the wheel wells. Friday nights were high school grudge match nights at the local drag strip. Work on the car all week, run it on Friday night, limp it home, work on it all week etc, etc. A friend at last count had 14 Road Runners, GTXs and a stray challenger. The RR and GTXs are all 68, 69 models. One is a 68 GTX 440 6 PK Convertible. He bought them all years ago for 2 - 3K each before people got nostalgic (or ever heard of Barrett -Jackson). Another buddy had 3 super birds and 2 Daytonas. He sold them in the mid 80's thinking they had reached their peak value. DOH! jeff Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: dprat1 on February 08, 2006, 11:48:21 pm My "Man Space" for what it's worth. Half of the garage is reserved for the the Mrs. vehicle to sleep at night. She said it was in the marriage vows That was 25 years ago..and I can't even remember what I promised anyone yesterday Have to take her word for it though....can get alittle chilly in the garage at night. Garage is pretty full of Mustang right now...replacing toasted heads I moved the C-51 inside closer to it's final resting place for finishing touch's. Won't be long now

Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: dprat1 on February 09, 2006, 12:26:33 am By the way..my first car was a "59" Ford with a 223. Dropped in a 351 with a hurst in VOC class then..sweet....burned to the ground in the school parking lot a month later. I suppose that should have been a sign then to quit smoking I remember it well...because it was on Friday Halloween and the only thing left were a few bars of Ivory soap and toilet paper floating around in the rear floor boards How they got there....I may never know

jeff Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: sodaworks on February 09, 2006, 01:06:59 pm I have an uncle in Bakersfield who is really into Mopars. The family thinks we're both nuts for collecting what we do. Anyways the last time I was at his shop he had 40+ early Mopars and still buys them all the time. He does all the Mopar nationals, has reproduced some obsolete parts and writes an ocasional article for Mopar magazine. If you do the big swap meets and see a guy flying a big red mopar blimp over his spaces thats my uncle Dan.
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: cvb141 on February 09, 2006, 10:53:35 pm Ya'll are killing me. My first car was a 70 Chevelle SS 396/350hp. Had it for 15years finally swaped in a 454. Sold it in 2000 to pay for the birth of my son. Thought I would by another one later. I can't seem to catch up with the rising cost. Still have old parts from it laying around that I never got rid of. Also owned 69SS/RS, 68SS/RS, and a 65 Goat. I've been working on a guy for 2yrs. now that has a 65 goat that has been sitting since 73. I hope to wear him down some day and bring it home.

Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: on February 10, 2006, 03:30:39 pm Thanks all! I was not sure where to do an intro so I posted one in the post 60's section, I have a Vendo 90 that I have started to restore. I will and try to post some new pics once I have her all cleaned up! Once the weather up here gets warmer I plan on painting it, and then find some stickers for it. In the mean time I'll keep on workin on the inside.
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: bcharlton on February 10, 2006, 07:52:21 pm Murman,
It started with an old gas pump. Then I moved on to soda machines. I dabbled a little with old Stoner candy machines. Now, I am looking for an old "deuce" to restore. I know 32s are hard to come by but I am looking. Love your 28. It looks like a candy apple red pint job. Awesome!!!! Brian C Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: on February 10, 2006, 10:35:44 pm Thanks.... its burgandy gold flake... a little hard to tell buy the picture. As for a 32 you can get glass bodies now. There are a few originals up here if you are real serious, I can hook you up if you wish! Murray
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: bcharlton on February 10, 2006, 10:50:13 pm Murray:
I will save my pennies and wait for the real thing. I love the restoration process. I like to imagine the history of what I am restoring and look forward to finding something that needs a little TLC. If you see anything like a 31,32,33 (not the Vicky) I would love to hear from you. Keep me posted. I figure if I get into restoring old cars with the same passion I have in restoring old stuff from the fifties, I may need a divorce attorney. Brian C Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: audiobeer on February 10, 2006, 11:28:48 pm A buddy of mine was working on his 32 for over 15 years. Finally with his body ship business taking off he couldn't afford the time in doing the finishing touches. He had Dave Alan finish it. Dave wouldn't do it unless he started from scratch. It has won one the top 5 street rods in the country at Goodguys in 2004 and many many numerous awards as well. It has been in Rodders Journal (cover on newsstand and feature), Number twenty seven
Street and Custom Rodding Illustrated Magazine, Annual 2005 Street Rodder Magazine, January 2005 This is one of the most beautiful 32s I have ever seen. You owners of these classics are lucky!! Murman yours is absolutely stunning! Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: bcharlton on February 11, 2006, 12:39:41 am WOW!!!!!!

Thank you for your comment, but I still have a way to go. here is a new picture of it at the last show. If I can finish the rest of it, I would like to take it to the Goodguy show in Seatle Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: Pat Pixley on February 13, 2006, 10:53:29 pm Well all you guy's that were so kind in showing off
your garage's A Big Thank's . I was hoping to tell everybody some good news. But All I have is bad news, I had a appointment with the planning commission tonight and I was turned down on the garage that I wanted to build this spring. The reason's were the way my back yard slope's down toward the neighbor yard behind my home and I would have to bring in to much fill dirt to make it level and that would change the water run off causing more water to set in there yard. And the second reason was the neighbor kittycorn in the back told the planning commission they did not want to see a garage back there it would ruin there sun sets....They don't like me because I had to call the police on them and there little yappy dog that they left out all night last summer and it barked till 3AM on a work night till the police had to call them because they would not come to the door when the police knock for 5 minutes, And here the big They don't even use their back yard. so now I'm S.O.L. Pat Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: sodaworks on February 13, 2006, 11:21:00 pm Pat,
Sorry to hear about that. I am very fortunate not to have any such problems with the neighbors. Luckily I live on 2.5 acres with plenty of room so that the neighbors are not "looking" at my shop. I orginally planned on building 12' ceilings so that I could have a car lift, but I settled on 9' so that I wouldn't block the neighbors view of the mountains. When my shop was completed I checked their view and I could have easily went 12'. I was kinda disapointed but hey what the heck I still have an awesome shop. All my buddies are envious. Is there anyway you can reach a compromise with the planning comission and neighbor? Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: MoonDawg on February 14, 2006, 11:48:08 am Hey Pat That's a good enogh reason to sell the house and buy one with a big garage. Better yet a barn
Title: Your shop is better than mine! Post by: Pat Pixley on February 15, 2006, 08:42:14 pm Well Thanks Terry & Glen , I did talk to the neighbor
that are kittycorner in the back and they told me they just don't want to see a garage in my back yard ,They are just being about the whole thing . And as far as the planning commission that was a done deal that night. My Folks have 12 area's so I'm going to talk to them when they get back from Hawaii and see if they would let me put up a 24x24 garage with a loft ( for storage) there only six mile away and in a different township which is a whole lot better to work with than the one I'm in right now. Thanks Pat |
