Title: What should i use to clean a soda machine?
Post by: Pixel on January 26, 2006, 05:33:55 pm
I'm looking for a cleaner that I can use on the painted body of my Coke machines. Looking for something effective, but paint-friendly. I think somebody once mentioned car wash in a bottle. I've looked at Auto Zone and there are several different brands of cleaner that say "Car Wash" on them. Is that the type of cleaner I should use? If so, should I use any particular brand? What kind of cloth should I use? What else do I need to know about cleaning a soda machine?

Thanks in advance

I have been using Simple green. I saw a post that said it was taking the paint off but I have never had that problem. I live by that stuff it is the best. If you dont have a power washer and you have access to a pickup you can take it to a car wash. Just stand it up when you get there and clean away. If it isn't too crowded I stay there and clean up the whole machine.

Simple Green- where should I look for it? Wal-Mart, Auto Zone, NAPA?

The car wash idea sounds cool, but I don't have a trustworthy pickup handy. I might be able to borrow a pressure washer. Think I'll start with the Simple Green though, see if it takes care of most of it.

Do I need to use any particular type of cloth?

I use simple green or Windex. These works good for me. Try using a soft terry cloth towel.

You can get simple green at walmart or any auto parts store.

Spray Nine is also another good one. Its a good grease cutter and it didn't disturb my paint at all. I've been a fan of it for years. The biggest drawback is the smell.

Simple Green works well for me too - it is pretty easy on your hands and even works well on those dried moldy soda puddles sometimes found in the bottom of your machine...

Are you guys diluting the Simple Green or spraying it on full strength?

Simple Green is awesome! If you do use it full strength, make sure you don't let it sit to long on any painted surface or it will tend to fade. I've used diluted mixtures, 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 mixtures with great success.

I buy the Simple Green Automotive degreaser and generally use it full stregth AFTER spraying down the surface with water.  Scrub or wash and rinse right away.

Simple green is powerful stuff. It works so well we once nicknamed a machine "The Green Monster". The whole machine cleaned up really nicely with just half a bottle of Simple Green!
Fantastic stuff.   :D

My first intro to Simple Green was in the Navy while I was stationed in Japan onboard the USS Curts (FFG-38) 1991-94. We used to use this sorry old crap called General Purpose Cleaner otherwise known as just "GP". Pretty worthless and really not to good for the humans that used it.

We were in the middle of a long underway period and about 90% of all of us Combat Systems guys got "loaned" to the Engineering Department to assist them in "prepping" (read: cleaning) their dirty, nasty main engineering spaces for a major inspection. GP just didn't do the job.

Up topside in the port helo hanger sat this 50 gallon drum full of a mystery soution that none of us were wise to.......

And then.......POW!!! Our Leading Chief brought down a bunch of spray bottles full of this "Simple Green" stuff and said "Enjoy". Of course being sailors we were skeptical at first but after the first day of use we were overjoyed!

Not only did it work like a champ, it' didn't smell like crap!! Before you knew it the entire ship was jonesing for it. This stuff generated a ship full of addicts!

So, I swear by it. I really don't use much else except for engine cleaner, and that's only for jukebox mech's and poppcorn machine mech's.
