Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 24, 2006, 05:10:22 pm Does anyone have the large Pepsi bottle cap
that they can scan and send to me in a jpg. format? I could set up a blank cap that I could then put in differnet brands soley for the group that could be made into decals for their machines... Has anyone ever had color decals made for their machines? Eric Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 24, 2006, 06:05:40 pm Eric,
I have the bottle cap decal you are looking for. Send me your email address. I'm not home right now so I'll send it later. Title: Decals Post by: BryanH on January 24, 2006, 06:19:27 pm Eric - try these: 300dpi or 600dpi. I also did a 1200dpi scan but it's 12MB and Cox limits webspaces to 10MB. If they don't work and you need something different let me know. The decal I'm scanning is 9" and I only have a letter sized flat bed scanner so I can't get the whole image.
Also believe that Terry said he has a source for making good die-cut vinyl decals. Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 24, 2006, 08:09:32 pm Bryan...
That work can you scan in two parts and post it... My machine at work is faster.... and I will be able to splice it back together.... Thanks... Eric Ok... who can make these?....... Title: Decals Post by: bubba on January 24, 2006, 08:46:24 pm Bryan... If you want, I can snap a pic of the one on my machine.... its not in the best of shape, but if you get desperate, its better than nothing...
I can't seem to find my pic of the sides and back, but they are a tad different than the one on the front... Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 24, 2006, 09:34:23 pm Yeah I wouldn't mind making that one too Bubba...
If anyone can get me a good scan of that cap from a side view I can build that one as a blank too... Then if someone wants a off brand we'll see what we can do. Thanks guys! Eric Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 25, 2006, 12:15:26 am I will send photo's of MINT Pepsi bottle caps tomorrow evening.
Title: Decals Post by: BryanH on January 25, 2006, 02:39:05 pm Eric - just emailed new scans and a couple pics.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 25, 2006, 04:14:02 pm Thanks ... See what I can do... I'm going to use the shape then (hopefully) be able to
just drop in different art I already have built into them and make off brands for you guys that restore these to other than Coke. But we'll need to find someone that make 4 color decals in spot color or 4 color process... This will be fun. Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 26, 2006, 12:47:23 am Eric, emailed this cap to you. Sorry so late, had to work late today.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 26, 2006, 10:59:33 am Something like this...that way we could have another
option other than a 10cent logo and a little more color... Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 26, 2006, 01:47:18 pm and....
Title: Decals Post by: BrianB on January 26, 2006, 03:08:09 pm Wow, those are awesome looking, Eric!
Title: Decals Post by: BryanH on January 26, 2006, 04:40:22 pm Eric - as my kids would say Sweet!. I have a machine waiting for those Squirt decals. Could you create one with red background instead of the red? Would like to match the color scheme in the pic and have it show up on a yellow machine. So anyone know how we get from your awesome art work to a custom decal.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 26, 2006, 04:50:48 pm What color do you want the background? Did you mean green?.... I used an old tacker sign
for reference on the blue one. Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 26, 2006, 05:44:52 pm Green...
Title: Decals Post by: aspbear on January 26, 2006, 06:37:53 pm Eric, those are really nice. It is nice to know I met such a talented person. Great work
I hahve the RC cooler ready to paint and I will get you a picture when it is complete... Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 26, 2006, 09:42:22 pm Thanks Just want to give back to this group... I'm hoping these type caps could help
a restoration have a little something different than what others are doing... Awesome... It could't have gone to a better person glad it's stay'n in the family here and yeah post it when she's done.... Eric Title: Decals Post by: loman4ec on January 26, 2006, 10:16:34 pm Eric, Those look great. the top RC button is the best. I have to have that on the sides of my Rc 56. Now the big question. How do we get these made into decals? If you have some extra time in the future would you do me a favor and work your magic on the photo of my rc 56 and do it in yellow with the 81 front logo and those caps on the side? If you are busy no problem. I just want to see what it will look like.
Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 26, 2006, 11:22:02 pm Nice Job Eric, I'm sold on the Squirt decals. Can you do the squirt boy?
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 27, 2006, 09:01:42 am Yeah I'm hoping that whoever ask the owner of the strange Squirt machine on
eBay will get images of that huge logo on the sides... It would take some time but I could do it. I scan then rebuild them in FreeHand then I'm gonna need to know what format is best to save in and resolution... I'm gonna ask around here at some sign shops what they use/need... I want these to be high resolution and done with an ink that won't fade (if there is such a thing anymore). Probably would have to cut these out by hand but would put a bleed around them so there isn't a white line.... Also... beside caps anybody ever seen something else on a older machine decal wise that you'd think would look cool?.... I know a lot of people use that big 10cent but I think that's more a fantasy piece or filler piece for a big blank area. My 72 for instance... has a large fishtail decal with “enjoy that refreshing new feeling” decal across the bottom.... it's faded but that would be a cool one to have again. Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 27, 2006, 12:00:30 pm I'm looking for a cool design of a "cup in hand" decal for my cup vendors. This would be similar to the "bottle in hand" decal. Funtronics offers one but I'm wanting something a little different from thiers. I'm also wanting a "ICE COLD" decal with "ice forming" on the letters. This script was used on ice machines from the past.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 27, 2006, 12:26:21 pm I think there's a Coke sign with a cup in the hand... will have to try and dig that up.
Want a Coke Cup or just a cup?... Also does anyone have images of the ice forming script example? Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 27, 2006, 12:43:17 pm Looking for coke cup. I do have a sign with a coke cup from 60's. I'll post later with a photo of other vintage coke cups that I have. I'd like to see the ICE COLD script as well. Thanks Terry
Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 27, 2006, 01:44:14 pm Here's a cup from my sign
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 27, 2006, 03:46:02 pm Ok... Found a printer who can do 4 color vinyl said they can stand outside treatment.
Would probably be cheaper to have them printed and cut out by hand... instead of die cutting but he'd look into it. So my question is.... who would want decals, what type, what size, what brand and how many... These would be for restoration of personal machines... not to be printed out and made for resale... I don't want to make money off these (just pay for the cost of having them made and shipped) I just want to give back to this group what I can... And when the time comes to put my 81 back together... I will need a lot of help as I'm not talented in the ways of cooling systems, body work or paint. And keep an eye out for a 7up or Pepsi Quikold standard. Thanks Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 27, 2006, 04:51:03 pm Hello Eric,
You do awesome work. I'm wanting two Squirt Green bottle caps and a Squirt boy for a VMC33 that I will be adding to my personal collection. I do not plan on ever trying to sell the machine off as a original squirt machine. When you get ready let me know so we can go over the colors. I'm thinking dark green. Thanks Terry Title: Decals Post by: Creighton on January 27, 2006, 05:23:18 pm Very kind of you Eric!! No hurry at all, but I would be interested in bottle cap, 11", old style Mountian Dew. 3 please.
Watching for the coolers. Thank You!! Creighton Title: Decals Post by: loman4ec on January 27, 2006, 07:04:12 pm I would want 2 RC bottle caps for the side of my machine.
Title: Decals Post by: Kilroy on January 27, 2006, 07:38:43 pm
Terry, I seem to recall the snow capped 'Ice Cold" decals on Curtis' Frosty Root Beer machine. So either he or Allan (BITW) should be able to hook you up. Title: Decals Post by: MoonDawg on January 27, 2006, 08:31:52 pm
Contact MoonDawg Title: Decals Post by: rogerz on January 28, 2006, 01:22:17 am Eric
Are these decals you posted done as vector files? rz Title: Decals Post by: Lulu on January 28, 2006, 08:39:56 am Thanks for all the work, Eric. I'd like two mountain dew caps and two green squirt caps, and a squirt boy. I want a squirt machine and my nephew wants a dew machine.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on January 28, 2006, 11:19:27 am Vector art .....yes (basicly a bunch of points, clic and drag to make arcs, etc. all built
in Photoshop 8 - these would be crisp and sharp.... depending on what a printer uses. I think saved in a .pdh format they would be sharp also (depending on the size of file). I still want to build a front on view of the cap logo too. And maybe some differnt bottle shapes.... Title: Decals Post by: bubba on January 28, 2006, 08:09:33 pm OK.. here are some pics of the good labels left on my machine...
One is of the sign, which is in pretty good shape. The other is on the back of the machine, which isn't too bad either.... The full res images are here... http://www.ardgroup.com/ken/Pepsi%20Decal%201-28-06.JPG http://www.ardgroup.com/ken/Pepsi%20Sign%201-28-06.JPG Title: Decals Post by: BryanH on January 29, 2006, 09:31:04 am
Ditto on all counts... Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on January 30, 2006, 12:24:50 am BryanH,
What model of machine are you going to do in squirt? I thinking a VMC33. Title: Decals Post by: coke_and_stuff on January 30, 2006, 01:30:59 am I have a friend here in town that owns a sign shop, He did some great work for me in the past and is probably capable of doing some of these decals. He uses vinyl and has the electronic computerized cutters etc. If you need a hand let me know Eric.
Joey Title: Decals Post by: BryanH on January 30, 2006, 04:42:33 pm
My vmc110 is already a squirt and the old GE wet cooler I have also has a squirt decal on it. Title: Decals Post by: on January 31, 2006, 06:55:17 pm WOW this is great!!!!! how about the coke 10c script or the hand holding the coke bottle......any leads on were I could find that?
Title: Decals Post by: jasmine64 on January 31, 2006, 07:16:17 pm
Funtronics. 301-371-5246. Steve can set you up. Title: Decals Post by: Yarochrehc on January 31, 2006, 10:07:07 pm
Eric in the hopeful, and near future I will need some Squirt, 7up, and Frostie decals for the machines i'm restoring. It seems that when I restore a machine to sell I always kept them and always will. When you go to put your 81 together and if you are going to make it coke, I have the PPG paint codes for the machines. Title: Decals Post by: Gumbo on February 02, 2006, 09:14:10 pm What a great guy to do this for the group! Thanks Eric.
Title: Decals Post by: Jim on February 03, 2006, 07:50:11 am Eric,
With regards to decals, do you have the capabilities to print on vinyl dicut decals or do you stack the various colors to create the decal...? Title: Decals Post by: Eric on February 03, 2006, 05:57:36 pm That's what I'm looking into... I don't want to stack diffeent color pieces I want
them to be a almost spot color print look... I need to send out some samples to see what they can do.... Working on some front on caps and different flavors..... will post when I get them done..... Title: Decals Post by: Eric on March 02, 2006, 05:52:42 pm Just you all know I'm still trying to work on these when I have time... these two aren't done yet....
anyone found a good decal place?.... Title: Decals Post by: loman4ec on March 02, 2006, 07:52:49 pm Eric those look great! That crush cap makes me want to paint a machine orange.
Title: Decals Post by: bubba on March 02, 2006, 08:16:44 pm Eric... I posted in the US mail thread.... Have you looked at a company like Seton? I've used them for making decals for work, and they have done good work for me. I haven't done anything in the detail that you are doing, but I think they can handle it. The ones I've gotten hold up to pressure washing, dirt, grime, etc... I dunno if they are capable of doing water transfer, or how they would handle copyright stuff.. I usually provide them with either an Illustrator file or just a jpeg. I'm not sure what quantities they work on as I usually order 500 at a shot. If you haven't heard of them, they are at www.seton.com
Title: Decals Post by: sodaworks on March 02, 2006, 09:29:22 pm My next machine for my collection is going to be a VMC33 squirt.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on March 02, 2006, 11:07:11 pm Yeah copyright is something to consider but if you're talking a couple just to restore a machine
back I don't think that would be a problem... I'm not selling them. But if I was making them by the jillions and setting up across the country selling them out of the back of my truck... yeah that could be a problem. Just want to get a few designed see who needs what and what brands then get some made strickly for this group... no outsiders... I don't think any laws are being broke restoring these back to original... No different than vinyl letters saying “Have A Coke” just mine look like a cap. Think a Vinyl would be better or water transfer?... Vinyl would be a little tougher wouldn't it? Title: Decals Post by: bubba on March 03, 2006, 06:58:06 am I think the vinyl would be difficult, especially on the bigger decals. I don't know if the glue they use is water soluable.. If I get a chance today, I try wetting the surface and putting a sticker on it and see if it is positionable... Kinda like window tinting...
Title: Decals Post by: loman4ec on March 03, 2006, 09:07:18 am Vinyl is the way to go. You don't use water just spray on some windex and then apply the vinyl. Once you get it where you want it you use a squeegee to remove the windex under it and to remove air bubbles. You use windex because of it's alcohol content. It dries alot quicker so you can remove the top film easier. The decals on the Frosty machine were all vinly. I posted a pic to show as an example. Even the white on the side is a vinyl decal. It turned out great.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on March 03, 2006, 09:20:52 am That's a good size cap Josh .... how wide is that? Is the colors/edges crisp?
Title: Decals Post by: loman4ec on March 03, 2006, 09:25:20 am I honestly dont remember the size. Contact Curtis he is who makes them. They looked great. I have honestly never seen a better job on vinyl. All of the stuff he sold me was great.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on March 03, 2006, 11:19:29 am Curtis?.... What is his member sign-on name....Curtis if you read this.... PM me.... lets talk

Title: Decals Post by: bubba on May 03, 2006, 07:38:22 am Without rereading the whole thread... A guy I work with just got setup with a screen printing machine. He says he can do vinyl decals currently 11"x15" Vector based printing. I don't know a whole lot about it or what he is capable of, but if you think this may work, I can get more details. I am actually trying to get him to join the site here. He is a friend that I just fixed up a V63 for.
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on May 03, 2006, 10:39:16 am Vector is how I draw them... see if he can take a Illustrator 7 file or a freehand 8 file
and I'll send him a cap...Lets see what he can do. Title: Decals Post by: bubba on May 03, 2006, 11:56:35 am I just talked to my buddy... he is setup to work with Corel Designer 12. Here is he program he is using. http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pid=1047024393604&cid=1047024393836
If you want to email me a file, I can get it to him and see what he can do with it. He also will be registering here Possibly tonite. Email to kgroel@gmail.com and I'll get it to him. If its too big to email, lemme know and I'll give you a place you can upload it to. Title: Decals Post by: bubba on May 08, 2006, 07:01:31 am Eric.. I just talked with my friend. He said if you save the Illustrator file as either a Post Script or a PDF, he can work with it. When you get a chance, email me one and I'll give it to him to try. kgroel@gmail.com
Title: Decals Post by: Eric on May 08, 2006, 08:10:28 am Let me finish a Pepsi Cap And I'll send it your way.....
Title: Decals Post by: on May 22, 2006, 07:15:35 pm Have you got any of the caps done yet? (Did they turn out okay) I'd like to be added to the list for a couple of the green Squirt bottle caps, depending on price.
Thanks ... Ron Title: Decals Post by: MCarter on May 22, 2006, 08:05:41 pm Eric,
How much? I need an old school coke cola? Title: Decals Post by: Eric on May 22, 2006, 10:03:06 pm Hey guys work has picked up and so they are kinda on hold... I do have some art work done...
those sample I just threw together to get an idea to see if you guys like them ..... Found a guy through oldgas.com that makes these and he sent me a sample also Bubba has a frined that maybe can do they too. I will finish up a Pepsi one and sent it to Bubba to send to his friend so we can see what he can do! Also give me a list of brands you like and that way I know what type to work on Pepsi, Coke, Squirt what else?.... Title: Decals Post by: bubba on June 03, 2006, 12:11:45 pm Ok guys... decals update... Eric sent me a Pepsi cap to give a test with. My buddy has it now, and he is waiting on ink prices, becauses he wants to use UV resistant ink.. He is probably going to screen print these.... At this point, I'm not sure how its going to work with all the different flavors and colors with cost being the major factor. I don't understand the process of screen printing, but he basically has to make plates of some sort with each design, then it gets printed.
One question he had was size of the caps.... What size are most of the caps, or what size would everyone want? Keep in mind that the edges of the caps will not be die cut... they will come on a square sheet. He asked what color background for the decal, and I wasn't sure... he said they have clear available also, but I don't think it will look as good as it sounds.... |
