Title: Picked up one, two to be delivered
Post by: KreKol on January 13, 2006, 11:17:05 pm
I went to Pittsburg, Kansas ( a 150 mile drive ) today to pick up a newer dispenser that I had won on E-Bay.  The guy I was getting the dispenser from asked me to look over a few of the his soda machines while I was there.  He was having a problem with a Coke Cooler and a Coke Vendo 81 round top that he had a guy comming over to maybe buy (he tried to sell it to me but I don't have $1300 to spend right now).  I told him that he needed to replace a fan in the cooler and the 81 was set to vend so I reset it.  We were looking over his other machines (He has a coke slider and a Coke Vendo 31) and he pointed out a tall Pepsi Square top.  He said that he would be comming by where I lived in about a month and if I wanted that machine he would drop it off at my house.  He said the #### thing bit him (got a good shock) and the compressor has been removed.  I said sure (was not going to pass that up).  The guy came to look at the V-81 and though I was interested in buying it so he paid the $1300 and ran off with it.  After he left we started talking about a Coke Vendo 63 square top that is not in too bad of shape.  He was wanting $350 for it.  I told him that was a little to high for me.  We talked it over and he went down to $250.  I agreed and he will be bring both machines to me in about a month.  Yes, I took a few pictures before I left.  Here is the dispenser.

This is the machine that bites.  It is a mutilated (changed to Pepsi :( ) Vendo 144.  Everything is there but the compressor.

This is the Vendo 63.  There is rust on the bottom of the inside sleeve and some surface rust on the rack.  Easy fix.

That's a clean 63 your getting there. I just picked up a Coke dispenser today and a True single glass door pepsi cooler. I didn't have room for coke dispenser so I left it at my friends antique store. I will be picking it up soon. I don't plan on keeping either one of these. I will post pictures of the coke dispenser if anyone is interested in it. It's from the late 60's I would guess and it is about 3'x3' and approx. 18" tall. It would have set on a counter and it has 4 taps.

When I looked it over the only thing I could find missing is the compressor.  What I could be interested in is a replacement sign for the front.  It looked like the original sign was painted over and I don't know if I can get the paint off without ruining the original finish.   I will get with you when I get the machine.  I have a complete working cooling system that will slide right in.

Nice score.

He said the #### thing bit him.

When I read that I thought of the "haunted Coke machine" from ebay this summer.

Man it's been a long day. I've been painting door frames and walls all day. I guess that accounts for the rambling.

KreKol--That's fine.  I can send you a picture of the sign when you're ready.

I am getting the Vendo 63 for my Wife's Birthday.  She has been wanting a Soda Machine with Coke on it.  All the ones I have been finding are Pepsi.  I did buy a machine with Coke on it this summer and have found out it is going to cost more to fix then to buy the Vendo 63.  We have decided to turn it into a Wine bottle cooler.  It is still in the planning stage.

Lulu:  I will get with you as soon as I get the machine and tie into it.

The machines arrived this morning. Even without the compressor in the Vendo 144 it is really heavy. Later on today I will see how many problems I find when I try the vending mechanisms.  Tomorrow I will try the compressor in the Vendo 63 and if I have time I will install my extra compressor in the Vendo 144.  As soon as I can I will take the big sign off of the Vendo 144 and see if the PePsi sign is hiding Coke.  If not I will be getting with you LuLu.

I decided to go ahead and install the cooling unit into the Vendo 144. It was the only way I would be able to test the vending mechanism without cutting wires. The coin mech would not work so I put in one that I knew was good and the vending mechanism worked great. It won't hold long necks but cans and small bottles work. The compressor would not come on so I think I must of missed up the soft start on the compressor. I had to rewire the lower fan and the soft start had a lot of rust on it. The compressor worked before so it should not be a problem to fix. I have a hard start so I will try that tomorrow. The insides are real clean without any rust. With a little work it could be a good machine.
I unplugged the compressor on the Vendo 63 and plugged the machine in. Another bad coin mech and the top fan sounds like a lawn mower. I think the fan is bent or loose. I have an extra fan so replacing it won't be a problem. The vending mechanism works but not correctly all of the time. It does not always reset when a bottle is taken out. A good cleaning should fix that. There is a good amount of rust under the top fan that will have to be cut out. Tomorrow I will see how good the compressor is.
The 144 came with a vendo made coin mech. It is all steel and has a place for dimes and nickels. I am going to have to get it working and stick it in the 63.

The Vendo 144 is running good. In fact I have it running right now seeing how well it keeps cool. My wife and I are trying to decided what to do with it. If we keep it it will be changed back to coke or just just sell it as is. Everything is working but it needs a few parts replaced (the lock bracket is bent) to make it 100%.
I plugged in the compressor in the Vendo 63. With the top fan sounding like a lawn mower I could not hear the compressor running, so I cut the line to the fan and let the compressor run for a bit. It was gurgling and not cooling off. I found out that with the top fan vibrating so bad it shook the real small line on the compressor so hard it dug into the return line and cut it open. The cut was expelling oil so I think the compressor is still good. I should be able to fix the hole and refill with R-12. I will have to get my heating and air man over help fix it. If all else fails the cooling unit in the Vendo 144 is the exact type in the Vendo 63.

Stuffing a rag in the fanblade won't hurt the fan motor for a quick test like this.

I will have to remember that one.  At the time I just wanted it stopped.  I could of spent three minutes and removed the wires for the fan from the relay box.  :p
