Title: Which squaretop is your favorite?
Post by: Ross on January 04, 2006, 12:55:30 pm
I was thinking that I would like to get a squaretop.  So, if you had to pick one, which one would you pick? And why?

Coke Vendo 63A...Still red and white...light up panel, small size, easy-to-use multi-vend machine.
That being said the Vendo / VMC 56 transition machines of 1959-60(?) are cool too.  They are square top, small and still have the mechanical vending unit and large coin door...multi-vend as well.

I'm a sucker for the Cavalier 55's, single vend or dual, doesn't matter!

Realistically speaking, if you want a nice compact machine that'll vend multiple bottle sizes and is easy to work on, I'd have to agree with Vendobaldtops on the Vendo 63A.

I like both the vendo 63 and the vmc 56.

Hello

V-63 -V56   really the same machine

I really like my V-126 because it gives me alot of options (14 Rows) for "Product"

I just sold my VMC56 for $675 so the local price to people with money, no time or no ability to restore a machine to working condition is going up.

Cavalier USS-64. Lite up have a coke  sign, ability to vend bottles and cans. I even like the fake 70's woodgrain!

I love the early Cavalier 64's. They are red and white and no woodgrain. I also love the Cavalier 55's. I am picking up one of each this Sunday that I will be restoring and selling. Let me know if you might be interested in one of them. The one I don't sell I will be keeping and I like them both equally.

Myself I like the Cavalier 64's  and Vendo 63's
there both a good starter machine for some one
looking to get there first machine.
They both are easy to work on, there are part's
out there for both of them, They are both multi
vending machines. Wood grain or not, The Vendo 63
and the Cavalier 64 are both great machine's.

Pat     :D

I think I like the V63 better than the USS-64 so far. I'll be bring home the Cav tonite, so maybe it'll grow on my shortly, but for now the 63 is nicer to me. My Cavalier is also a 1981, so it doesn't have the older look to it.

I should have been more clear. My favorite is the early CS-64's. They were produced between 1959-1962. In my opinion the Cavaliers are built better than the vendo's. In all of the machines I have worked on I just think the Cavalier machines are better put together. More sturdy.

As my avatar suggests, my all time favorite is the Westinghouse Multi-Drink.  Either the WC60 or WC78.  Art Deco cooool... :D   Downside is it's nasty to work on (for my limited skills anyway).

My second choice would be the two selection Cavalier 55.

Tough to argue with the Vendo 63, though.  Inside and out a design for the ages.

Never had a USS-64 but that's what I want for my own machine (small and does cans or bottles).  In terms of looks I'm partial to the VMC56 or VMC77's.  77's are not as common but they are a little deeper and hold a few more bottles.

I gotta say, so far, I like the V63 much better than the USS-64. The Cavalier seems much more flimsy than the Vendo. Option wise, the Cav beats it, but construction wise, I dunno.

Bubba I disagree. I have found that the Cavalier's are much more sturdy. The Vendo's are more simple but in my opinion the Cavalier's are a rock. I have owned about an equal amount of both and I also like the Cavalier's more. But I am really not a big USS series fan. They are too big and boxy. I really like the early CSS-64's and 55's. I picked up one of each today. I will post pics tomorrow evening.

loman4ec... thats interesting. I should take a better look at mine USS then.. both the coin door and the main door seem very flimsy to me. When I close the door on the Vendo, you know its sealed. When I close the door on the Cav, it sounds like a tin can. I haven't seen any of the older Cav's yet.

Bubba, I will give you that. If yours is the 80's version USS-64 with the black coin door it was made slightly thinner. Not really thinner but I don't think there was as much reinforcement on the coin door. Maybe they were cutting back. I think I have figured out why I like them better. They are probably made to the same standards but it must be that I like working on the Cavaliers more. It might be that I have just had better luck with them but they just seem to go together better. Either way they are both great machines.

Yeah.. mine is stamped on one of the labels as a 1981. I was almost to the point of taking the door off and giving it to a guy in my shop to try to fab a new door with a bit more metal. I like having 8 slots vs. 7 but there is no precool space for extras in my Cav either.

I have an extra coin door that will work if you need one

Do you think its more substantial than the one I have? How much do you want for it?

Where are you located? It is somewhat different it is the door that is on the earlier USS64's but this one came off of a CSS-64G. It will fit your machine just fine. It has the chrome bezels on it and good woodgrain. Id take $25 for it.

loman4ec... I'm in NJ. I've been thinking about your panel. I think I'm going to hold off for now because the bottom front of the machine is black and I don't think it would look right with a wood grain door. I looked quickly at the door last night to see about replacing the bottom panel as well, but not sure if I want to get that involved. Thanks for the offer. I'll let you know if I have 2nd thoughts.

I have restored dozens of all the SQ Tops and the Cavalier 64 is by far built better. I do like the USS-64 over all the Sq top machines, as they will vend most anything. Josh, I even did a Uss in Frostie. I have the photos if you would like to see.

Curtis.. .I love that Frostie... I just got done cleaning up my USS-64 and putting it into service (my garage). I do like being able to load whatever I want into it. I'm starting to like this machine a bit better after tearing it down and giving it a good cleaning. Mine (1981) seems a bit less solid than my V-63, but it is more convenient. Giving it a completely different paint job makes it look like a totally different machine. Now your gonna get me ito trouble.. :D

Thanks!!

I was the first to do the Frostie Machine, I designed all the logos and sizes. I displayed the Machine for the first time to the public at the Hershey Game Room Show in 2004. I designed this machine when I was restoring for BITW and Bars and Booths as a subcontractor just to do there machines. One day Josh called and wanted to do a Frostie machine and I helped him through his project and he has gone gung ho! every sense. Keep up the good work Josh!

Yes I did, everything is finished the way I do my 81's, 72's, 96's Ect. Every last piece is finished an all put back with stainless steel screws. Even the insides are finished. I'll help you through the restoration if you need it. Curtis, Memory Lane Restorations

Curtis, That USS frosty machine looks great!! What kind of paint do you use? I am going to be painting an RC cola mahcine and am going to do it in the 50's yellow with red letters. DO you have a good paint code for the RC Cola yellow. I have never seen an origional RC 81 so I don't know what color would be close.

Sorry Josh, I don't have that paint code but I'm sure Steve from Funtronics 301-371-5246 can help you out with the original color code. If he don't have it Alan from Antique Vending will. info@antiquevending.com
