Title: Here that they are closing their doors
Post by: on December 30, 2005, 06:22:10 pm
:jawdrop:

I Heard two weeks ago that Back in Time Warehouse is Going to Close. I thought something might be wrong when I went to the Show in Hershey and they were a No Show. I had talked to their secretary at Barsandbooths earlier and I was to meet them at the Show to possibly buy a Juke Box. The Day before the Show - bitw canceled and lost their deposit on their booth. I have a Friend of a Friend who says he has been waiting on something they are supposed to be doing for him for 8 months and it still has not showed. No one seems to be there when you try to call them that knows anything and I understand that all their staff has quit. Does anyone know anything about this.

What is up with their specials and clearance Items on their website and why are their dates on the site from October.

My brother called them several weeks ago to buy a soda machine and they said that a soda machine would be a 7 month wait and they had nothing in stock. The guy on the phone thought my brother needed a part or something as well over the phone and went in to a fit over the phone about how they do not produce parts or something. They are not able to buy parts anymore , cut off or something.

I talked to a man at the show that said he has had trouble getting them to fix something on his machine.

Two weeks ago - their Stoner Candy Machine restorations were on Ebay - for sale outside their company - LOOK IT UP- under stoner candy machine completed auctions!

You can tell the photos are the same as on the memory lane blvd site.

Hi, My name is Curtis Kauffman of www.memorylanerestorations.com and just wanted to clear up the Stoner Candy Machine restoration on E-bay. That would be my work being offered under my new company Memory Lane Restorations. All the photos you will be seeing on E-bay and my new website www.memorylanerestorations.com are of machines I restored myself.
I was a subcontracter for BITW, Memorylaneblvd and Bars and Booths for the past several years, restoring all there Stoner Candy Machines, Soda machines, Ciggerette machines, Custom design work, Trash cans, Menu boards, Signs, Logo design. Parting ways in December of 2005, I have enjoyed working with GW and all the staff at BITW, Memorylaneblvd and Bars and Booths but it was time for me to offer my Design and Restoration services world wide so.
Welcome to Memory Lane Restorations! We have been in the professional restoration business for more than 15 years. In the past, Memory Lane Restorations has contracted our design and restoration services for outside internet retail only. Not until now has our quality restorations and custom design work been offered online to the public. Our new internet website memorylanerestorations.com Will be launched early 2006.

(1) Our new website will allow our customers to bypass the middle man and purchase our design and restoration services direct. Thus saving our customers thousands. You may see photos of our quality restorations and design work on several of our former client's websites, Memory Lane Restorations quality work has appeared on the prime time TV show ROKER ON THE ROAD! (A BLAST FROM THE PAST) in June of this year! If you saw that show, That was me.

(2) We have had our quality work on the cover of several national magazines and in many newspaper articles. Our Stoner Candy Machine restorations are known worldwide for their quality, beauty and attention to detail. memorylanerestorations.com has restored more than 300 Stoner Candy Machines and has become the leader in the industry on the working knowledge of these machines.

(3) The machine I have on E-bay, is to restore your complete Stoner Candy Machine, weather it be a Stoner Jr, Stoner 180, Stoner senior. If you are the lucky winner of my auction, This is what you will receive. We start with a complete dismantling of your machine. All painted and powder coated parts are sandblasted before any finish work begins. All parts that are to be re-plated are acid washed and then sent to the platers. All hardware such as nuts, screws, bolts, etc. are replaced with stainless steel. Your Stoner candy machine is stripped of every nut and bolt. every shelf is sandblasted and powder coated, every spring is removed and refinished or replaced. Please enjoy the close up photos below, This will give you some idea of what you would be getting and the care and detail that goes into our restorations. These photos showcase what we are so proud of.

(4) Snapshots - Photos of your machine are taken from start to finish. Upon receiving your machine, you are given a Photo disc of your restoration. This is standard practice on all our restorations. We will tell you where your serial number is located and ask that you wright it down. This will insure that the machine you send us is the one you get back. We are telling you this because upon receiving it, you won't believe it's your machine. (1)You pick the color. (2)Will do the rest!

(5) Make no mistakes! I restored every machine you will be seeing on my new website www.memorylanerestorations.com and E-bay that I post. Many of you that are in this business, I have helped many times with questions about your Stoners and drink machines.
My name is Curtis Kauffman from Memory Lane and if you need my help, just shoot me an E-mail memorylane@myactv.net  We restore all our machines ourself, we do not contract other companys to restore for us, you are dealing directly with us, no middle man!

I have worked with Curtis a few times and he is a great guy. He is how I was able to build the Frosty Root Beer machine. Without him I would not have been able to get it done.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Josh, your Frostie machine turned out great and it's nice to be able to help you guys get some CQQL stuff on the web. Look on E-bay later this week under Stoner Candy. Do I ever have a one off piece to show you. This machine has been sold to a great guy in NJ and would have been on display at the Hershey Gameroom Show, I was there with the great Steve Ebner of Funtronics. He was kind enough to let me hang out in his booth for the day, Even brought home two Stoners to restore for an old customer. What a great show! Next year I will be there as www.memorylanerestorations.com. Thanks again and look for the cool one of a kind restoration next week on E-bay under Stoner Candy. It will give you guys some ideas. I love this business! Thanks.

I too have called Curtis on numerous occasions when restoring a Stoner Jr. I was totally impressed with his knowledge and willingness to help me out. Curtis is without a doubt the go-to man for Stoner's, he really knows his stuff!! Curtis I'm glad to see you venturing out on your own, you'll be very successful in your endeavors. I will be restoring another Stoner in the very near future and will be buying all my parts from you and picking your brain for more info. Did you ever get the photo's of the white Jr. from a couple of months back. I would really like to see them as I plan on painting mine white. Thanks Terry@Sodaworks. :D

Title: Here that they are closing their doors
Post by: www.memorylanerestorations.com on January 02, 2006, 03:27:48 pm
Hi Rich, thanks for the compliment on my Stoner Moon Pie. I have been doing all Soda and snack machines for Bitw for a number of years. The last three years were for them only, I could not restore or sell outside BITW, Bars and Booths, Memorylaneblvd. Which memorylaneblvd.com Wazzz? My web address, but not anymore.Sooo I'll be www.memorylanerestorations.com That is what I had always traded under anyway. Memorylaneblvd was just a shorter web address. But to answer your question, restore for BITW?? I don't think so at this time. Calls have been coming in from all over asking me to restore machines. Everyone has been so nice, offering to send me work if I needed it. All you guys out there are great and if I can help anyone out on anything, just send me an E-mail. All the machines you see on those other sites were all restored by Memorylane restorations we were a subcontractor for the. I did have one other person restoring with me, but we both left at the same time and won't be going back. Thanks and check out the other CQQL stuff going on E-bay this coming week. I just want to let people see some of the cool things I had done. See ya soon! memorylane@myactv.net

Hi Moondawg, A Moon Pie is a snack cake, found mostly in the south but as far as NY some people call them scooter pies. Look on E-bay under Stoner Candy and you will see a Stoner Pastery Machine I restored in the theme of the Moon Pie. There is a picture of the Moon Pies on the side of the machine. Hope you enjoy.

I was getting a snack before work and saw a box of Moon Pies on the shelf and though, That would make a cool idea for that Stoner Pastery Machine I was wondering what to do with it for about two weeks. Then went town on the art work, made sure the Powder coating and the paint would be a perfect match. I kind of had it in my head as soon as I got started what it was going to look like. I'm just Happy it turned out ok! You should see the art work I have on paper for a Vendo Milk machine, Awasom! Never got the chance to finish that machine. The machine is sitting in there warehouse, painted but with no graphics.:(   Call me Josh. Thanks memorylane@myactv.net

Grew up on Moon pies and RC cola. (it's a southern thing).

Years later I can barely stand eating and drinking that much sugar.

The banana Moon pies are the best.

I occasionally will buy the Little Debbie snack cake version of the banana,
then the box sits in the pantry for a year or so with only one missing.

I am not from the South but I think Royal Crown (RC) cola is the best cola out there.   I need to find one of these Moon Pies out here in Northern California....Wish i had an RC 81 too....LOL

Curtis,

Great to see that you will still be offering your Stoner expertise to the outside world!

As before, will you still be selling restoration parts for Stoner's? I have a junior that needs a few things and when I found out a couple of months ago that things were coming un-glued over there, I started to get worried!

Good luck on all of your future endeavors and we look forward to seeing more pic's of your works and any stories you'd like to share!

Too bad we do not all live in the same town - We need to all get together in about 2 years and have a show - I am sure I can get my town to block off all the streets around here - We do it for the Town festival once a year which I donate the Soda and water to. - I have the building in the middle of town as well. It would be cool if we could get something going sometime - Do a show with Free Booth Rent Etc to see how many collectors will show up. It would probably be better to combine it with as many collectables as possible to start - rather than just Coin Op.

Did any one make it to the Hershey Show for Coin Op - or the Chicago Show - How was it and what would you have done to improve it. I have never been to the Chicago Show. I have heard good things and bad things. I have been to a Coca Cola Collector's show in Greensboro S.C. - It was at a Big hotel and convention center. It was OK - Too much reproduction for me.

Just found out today that We get to do the official 2006 Dukes Fest signed soda machine - We are going to do the General Lee Soda machines this year.  Last year when We did it - there was 40,000 people through the gate on Saturday.

This is a Cool box we just did - It is a Cheerwine box - Cheerwine is a Local Soda in our area.

Spoke with Curtis today - He say's His phone is ringing off the hook. I posted Curtis's snack machine restorations on my webpage for free to help him out. - He is currently working on descriptions which he will send me.  Bitw will most likely find themself a new restorer and stay afloat in 2006. Curtis is the best I have ever seen at what he does. He will be an impossible talent for bitw to replace. I am glad to have him as a friend rather than a competitor.

ps. I have got to send BC some love,
Here is a photo of Brian Charleton - He does not know I am posting this.

This Past Chicago Show (November) was one of the better ones I've been to in as long time.
(Some pictures I took in the photo gallery area on this sight)
Seemed, to me, a lot more machines. I think personally the $50 for early admisison is crazy....

Spend $75+ in gas, drive 6-7 hours to get there, stay at their resort ($100 a night) a pass
should be included!
Wish they'd just let the dealers set up! and let us all go in and out and try and get a deal!
Why not.... I would think it would be better for everyone..... just me

Eric

:O I agree with you - I think that the Dealers should not pay for a space - We are in a new Ebay world and most of the deals go down before the items ever make it to a show. Why would you load up and travel to a show to sell your Item and pay money to buy a space , pay gas , pay hotel - pay food - when you can sit at home and post it on Ebay - get 1 million times the exposure and pay 2.99 . You are the Drawing card for the show. You are the reason there is a show. I agree - Shows are wonderful because you can actually touch the item - Meet the restorer - Make connections. I am ready to do a show that cost the dealer nothing. I think the spectator should enter the show for free as well.

Here is a photo of Curtis's Moon Pie machine he wanted you to see.

Somebody has to pay for the convention hall/advertising. Insurance is required, security and medical personnel are advised. That said $50 gate seems pretty high. No idea what the vendors were charged.

The trade shows we do (non-soda) as vendors a 10'x10' booth is +/- $600. Admission for one day is $7.00. The promoters make a profit but I don't think it is excessive. With travel/motel/food costs most times we make a fair profit as well but not always.

Check the price to get a convention center area during off peak and see if the vendors would contribute to offset the various costs. Free admission for the customers will only generate good will and further the hobby. Off soapbox :-)

I've set up at a couple small soda shows... and right... someone has to pay for the advertising, location and insurance.
I don't mind the $6-10 admissions and didn't mind paying to be there set up.

I was talking about the Chicago Show $50 while the vendors set up... (what they called early admission you get a wristband)

If I was a vendor I wouldn't care who bought from me.... The guy that paid 50 bucks or a guy
that drove through 3 states to buy... If I paid a few hundred bucks to set up I would
want everyone to have a chance to buy from me :)

Just think $50 is a lot to expect from a customer... unless..... unless... a VMC 81 7up shows
up and I got it for $50 then the $50 was worth it cause it'd be like getting a VMC 81 7up for
only a $100... what a deal right? :)

I set up at a large flea market in the summer.  They charge $25 on Friday when the dealers are setting up.  This really burns me.  I'm trying to set up my booth and I have people looking in my trailer and "rooting" in boxes.  It's also a good time for the "thieves".  My thinking is, if there is a good buy prior to the show opening, let the dealers be the buyers.  We pay the set up fee and other expenses.

These same show sponsors also take a percentage of the gross sales from the food vendors along with a set up fee!!!

Don't get me started on buyers' premiums!!

Sermon over.

Makes the cooler look older... like from the 30s... I'm gonna play with that color
combo I think... Ahhh kids! They're the best! I have 3 - a 8 year old , 4 year old
and my little girl turned 1. My oldest always notices soda machine when we're out
(he's been trained well :) ) and my 4 year old love Pez dispensers. So he's got

OK I had to jump in here...

Curtis,
I have a cavalier CD-22 cooler that I have
been slowly working on and I have brought
up the subject before of repainting it original or all red with white lettering.

Now, I like the idea of white and red like the pic you posted.

What would you do? I really want something different, but if some day I decide to sell
what would be the most appealing to a buyer?  Is this cooler too big for the white with red lettering?

Title: Here that they are closing their doors
Post by: www.memorylanerestorations.com on January 05, 2006, 02:52:53 pm
I would take both color combo coolers to a show, the first to sell was always the white with red lettering. I even had to cover up the white one, Because when I would try to sell the red one, everyone kept saying, I want one like that one (the white/ red) It's just what you like. I think they look good both ways.

Go for it...

I know this is not soda but it was a soda machine. I did a custom Rolling Rock Beer machine several years ago. I know! but theres only so much you can do with Rolling Rock. What can I say, the man loves his beer. He is also the same man that now ownes the Fire Truck Bar, Cavalier 64, two custom fridgs, Vendo 81 and God only knows what else I restored for him. To have money???????

:) We pull off a festival in town here once a year - The town pays for the security  and the set up. A charge of 35.00 for a space down town goes to a local Charity to raise money - There are no other charges to the sellers or the buyers. Bathrooms are paid for by the town. It was estimated that the festival two years ago saw over 10 thousand people. The local eating establishments as well as the local stores do well. It is bring your own tent or have rent-a-center set it up. Parking is Free and where ever you want to park outside the blocked off area for the festival. We have our own Pepsi Cola bottling Company down town Granite Falls as well.

To Save Money for the show - We could advertise the show through our websites and soda-machines.com so that it would not cost a great deal of money. Insurance, I dont know - I guess the town just handles that when we have our festival. People walk down town everyday of the week here in Granite and I think if they fall down, it is there own problem - I have never heard of anyone going after the town to be compensated . One time about a year ago, there was a leaf and tree chopper parked on the side of the road picking up limbs, hooked to a town truck with yellow flashing lights. The Speed limit was 20 miles per hour. A red small 2 door car came flying by, hit the fender of the wood chipper and it flipped the car all the way over on it's top. The Wood Chipper was setting still at the time. The lady tried to blame the town for this, however when the police arrived - they gave her the ticket and told her she did not have a case. That wood chipper parks there every thursday and has the right-of-way. The two men that run the wood chipper are named Possom and Johnnie. Possom almost got flattened between her car and the fender of the wood chipper.

I been to your place and the town reminds me of the movie ( It's a wonderful life ) Untill I get to your warehouse and then it"s like I entered another world. I have never seen so many unrestored near perfect original machines in my life. That was the time Steve Ebner from Funtronics and I came down and spent the night. What a great time we had, untill the trip home. We were hauling 7000 pounds of machines and Soda in my trailer that was rated for 4500 pounds, Truck was also loaded. 7 blown trailer tires later and 3 hours stranded along the road in the middle of the night miles from no where, I could go on but don't want to put you to sleep. Steve and I made it home a day later than expected. We now look back and laugh! I'm sure many of you had herd the story from Steve. Next time any of you talk to Steve from Funtronics, tell him Curtis from memory Lane Restorations is thinking of making a Soda run to Antique Vending and would like him to join me again.

Hi Brian, I just ordered the art deco mirrors for the bottom cabnet. They have to be cut on a CNC machine. New knobs are being machined now and will be ready next week. I have just re  ordered the Theatre lights, + alot more items will be coming very soon. So the answer to your question would be yes. Instructions, Glass, mirrors, everything. Thanks

Hi Brian, and when I told you to paint the machine that color, you said the guys at the paint shop made fun of you and said they would not paint it that color. Looks great buddy and I here the guys at your paint shop all had a change of hart. You always ask me what color to paint your machine. Would I steer you wrong??? I think not. You are a good learner and you have become one of the great ones. Your stuff always looks grrrreat! Keep up the good work, I'll help you in any way I can. Curtis Memory Lane Restorations.

Nice Stoners... Do you powder coat and zinc plate the inside parts? Look nice....
Also, are the cabinets powder coated or painted?.... I have a couple of the late 50s /early 60s Nationals with the CANDY etched on the reverse of the mirros... (You can see this model sitting outside in the image under
-Photo Gallery-Chicago Show '05) I was wondering if I
should powder coat the cabinet or have them painted. Are the knobs those metal ones coated?...

Nice Work!

Hi Eric, The outside of the Stoner Candy machines are sand blasted then painted. The insides are taken apart and the shelves are powder coated all the rods are plated (remove the springs first) Even the springs and barrols behind the knobs are replated. The candy unit itself is nickle plated. I think Bcharlton paints his cabnet and shelves, they still look good either way. I always replace the knobs with my new replacements. I also powder coat the tips of my knobs to match the machine I'm doing at the time. I do have the Stoner Replacement knobs for all Stoners. They will be ready in two weeks. I had ran out. I also have new cams for the locks being made. I also just got a new shipment of the art deco mirrors for the bottom of the machines. Stoners I'll have everything. Even replacement bases., ready to fit your Stoner.  Thanks Curtis Memory Lane Restorations.

Mcarter, what you saw was a guard to cover the candy chute. That would pervent mice from getting into the machine and getting a free lunch. But yes they did put them on some of the Stoner machines.

I have only seen a few Stoners with them. Brian Charlton had called me a short time ago and asked about a machine he got that had one on. He though someone had made it up. I think it was the Stoner 180 he's working on now. But I don't beleave I'll be making them. There's just not much demand for them. But I will be making lots of Stoner parts that I have never made, like the Cam's for the lock. Stoners take a special Cam. Thanks. Curtis Memory Lane Restorations

Curtis;

As if it could not get any worse.  Here is my Stoner Jr in mint green.  I thought I would hate the color but as always, you were correct.  It looks awesome.  I even had the front bezel chrome plated.

I am now finishing up a Stoner 180 done in true candy red using "House of Colors" base coat clear coat.  It is a high end racing automative paint.  It looks amazing because it looks as if it actually changes color.  Pictures will follow in the next couple of weeks.

Here are a few cool photos of a sign I found on a garage in the next town over from me. I kept trying to buy this sign for two years, each time I passed buy I would stop and make the man an offer and each time he would tell me when he closed his doors he would call me. I started out offering him $250.00 I went into his garage one day and told him that this was the last time I would make him an offer, because I told him I was looking at another sign in another town. I told him I would give him $2000.00 Cash. He said CASH, I said cash! He then asked if I had a way of getting it off the building. Now I already had a customer in line for this sign, all's I had to do was restore it. Now look how nice it came out.

Man I need a Stoner... I've been looking for a while.... Over the Christmas break there was a Jr on eBay near Kansas and of course I was down and out with the flu and forgot to snipe it.... it went for around $375!!!!! Anyone here get it? It was complete and straight... That was a STEEL!!!
I have these 3 Nationals late 50s/early 60s but NEED a Stoner...

Josh did you ever go back and talk with the guy that was keeping those rough Stoners?......
Also...  As far as the signs that's always tough... they could probably care less about them...
Heck.. they probably don't even know they're Coke signs.....
but when someone shows interest...
I'd refer to them as disc signs or the round signs on the building...
You could tell them you're opening a soda machine restoration shop and you
wanted to make big bottle caps out of them! And put them on your shop...Not really fibb'n
and that may get them to open and talk to see if there's anything sittinga round there inside.

Need to start hanging wanted posters up for machines too!

Eric

Eric:
I agree! Get yourself a Stoner.  I have found and bought 3 in the last 18 months in the local Buffalo NY area.  I putan add for 50s stuff for my basement maltshop.  I guy replied that he had one in his barn.  A 20 minute drive and $200 later I had a complete Jr that I restored to mint Green.  I found the Theatre (my personnel favorite) on Ebay about 150 miles from my house.  The Theatre versions are the most rare and are the holy grail.  When restored properly, they lite up and look awesome especially in dim lighting.  I did mine in Coral (pink).  The last one I bought was my Stoner 180.  It was still vending candy 2 miles from my office at a local gas station.  A friend of mine called me and told me about it.  I spent $150 and it was complete.  It even had $12.00 in quarters in it.. In fact, the guy even threw in the candy.  Make sure your friends and family members know to keep an eye out for you.  I get call and e-mails every month from people giving me "leads".  In return, I send them gift certificates to say thanks.  I am sure you will find a Stoner.  I think they may be my favorite vintage 50s stuff I restore.  I do a lot of Soda machines but my lack of refrigeration system knowledge make me dependent on people like Allan from Antique Vending.  He has been a Saint.  I could not have restored the 4 coke machines without his help.

Enjoy the before and after pictures of the 180.  I think it will the nicest one of the bunch

Wow!... Look'n good! Want to see that one finished... What parts do you have nickeled?
Is that better than chroming?.... On my Nationals all the knobs are kinda rough.... Thinking
of having them powder coated a color than having them rechromed. I like the option of
making them match the paint or go with a cream or red in color.....

Would $250 be a good price for a 180?  I know where one was but wanted the smaller one.
What do you think?

Curtis:
Wow!!!  You were right.  That cigarette machine is "lights out".  I may want to restore one after all.  Or maybe I will trade a restored Stoner for one.  I love the mint green.  I now understand why people pay $5,000 for a museam quality restorations.

You are still the man!!!!

Eric:
I prefer chrome over nickel plating.  Both are great looking.  My chrome guy charges me the same so it is a no brainer.  I like the fact that the insides are restored every bit as nice as the outside.  The real treat is after your friends fall in love with the outside of the machines, I then open them up and show off the inside.  I like to use a high end automotive paint on the candy mech as well as the trays.  Some people have them powder caoted.  I think I get a better finish with base/clear.  Every tray gets clear coated.  I will argue that the paint finish on my individual candy trays are nicer then the factory paint job on my Jaguar. Hope this helps.

Brian, my shippment of new knobs for the Stoners, will be ready in one week. I have also had the Cams remade for the locking bar and I just picked up my shippment of the art deco mirrors for the bottom base cabnetsof the Stoners. I found a new company with the same CNC machine (better price) I got lots of goodies coming! You like the National. When are you going to learn, when I tell you it's nise, it's going to be nice! Thanks for the good feedback. Curtis Memory Lane Restorations

WOW.... :jawdrop:

I wish my machines were that old they had more character... I got these that were at the end of the cool era..... as you can see they started going to the box blah stage... I would say these are ealry 1960s MAYBE late 50s......
I bought one for a $100 it came out of my home town
ice cream shop and the other was on eBay and no one bought it so I paid $55 then another showed up for $25.... I just want
one and maybe can get two complete machines out of these.
The green one is mine I have a blue one and another that is like the second picutre. They are short about the height of a 56 and no too bad just not the charater of a older Stoner...
Have you guys bought anything this new and restored?
Would love to come up with a better color combo.
Maybe a Candy Red or some type of two-tone.

All the knobs are metal.
Chroming is high... Anybody got some one they use that
they can refer?...
The mirror has the etched reverse CANDY on it which is
kinda cool.

Eric

Hi Eric, If you want any paint codes that you see on my Stoners or Nationals, let me know. I would be more than happy to pass them on to you. E-mail me at memorylane@myactv.net  Theres alot of chrome on the nationals, about $500.00 worth on yours and about 5 to 8 weeks to get it back. There is still alot you can do with that machine. Still worth keeping. Powder coating is alot less money.

Powder coat is probably the way I'll go as far as knobs....
Would like to see one of these restored and how you did it.
I was thinking red or black cherry as far as color maybe a two-tone..
I think I'll take it into photoshop and do the ol' paint it before I really
paint it! By the way How did that Little Coke cooler with the wood grain turn out...
I did some examples for... Was that you Terry or Moondawg.... Want to see images of that.

I've seen a few Stoners with no bases... What would a base cost? Good to know next time one
pops up.

I sell the reproduction bases for the Stoners. They are a perfect fit and even have that rolled front. The Stoner 180 in the photo above has one of my repro bases on it. I need to check on the price. It's been six months from my last order. I'll post the cost later but they are nice. You can reach me at memorylane@myactv.net Thanks Curtis Kauffman
