Title: Vendo 80
Post by: 90grad on November 16, 2005, 09:38:16 am
All,

A guy within an hour of me has a Vendo 80 he's looking to sell.  He's had the machine for over 35 years.  He has promised to send me photos, which I will naturally share.  I've got the info from the Walters book, but I have a few questions.

1. Can it vend anything other than the small bottles?  I thought maybe it could do cans, but I figured the bigger bottles were out of the question.

2. Is there a large market for parts if the cabinet is shot?

I asked what he was looking to get out of it while playing as dumb as I could (not too hard for me).  He said, "I don't know what they're worth," so let me get a photo or two and then we can see what kind of price to work up.

A roundtop is always good, but if were to get this, I don't know if I would keep it or not.  I already have the Cavalier 51 single-flavor machine.  I'll keep you posted.

I have shaved the diameter of the rubber rollers to accept the wider can.  So a nice Vendo 80 could sit in a public place and be set to accept $1.00 to vend a can of coke.  How many round corner machines can do that?
It's good to have Jeff Walters first edition book in this situation. Show the guy what an average condition 80 is worth(he won't know the book is 15 years old). Depending on condition, you should safely pay between $500 to $1000

That is exactly what I need. I am seriously thinking about starting a vintage machine route. I also have an antique mall that wants me to display some machines for sale on commission. The 80 would be great for that. I also want to buy some 144/216 and similar models that are huge and have the ability to vend cans. I think if for nothing else it will be a good way to find people to buy machines.

Wayne...
Sounds like it might be a keeper if you get it! Would be great to be able to use it.

Josh there's a antique mall in Ozark, MO that uses a 6 case verticle (110 Self serve)
right by the check out counter they sell bottled water and soda out of....  Heck even your 35 for now could be used to sell soda out of (till you find a rack for it)
That would be a way to go too.

Yes I was also thinking about putting 16 oz plastic bottles in slant shelf machines. I have a cav 64 that just needs paint. I know it isn't a round top but it is still neet. I would just have maaco paint it so if it gets a little beet up it isn't a big deal. I think it would work great. also paint some USS64's to look older like I have done before and vend cans and H20. Also using Cav 64's and USS64's I could put them in places other than antique malls and they would be less likely to be stolen or if they are stolen it wouldn't as big of a deal as if it was a Vendo 80.

Josh where is the antique mall is it in Southaven MS?

Did you ever get to check out the machine I told you about at the
cake supply store where I buy my supplies on Summer Ave in the old
part of Memphis? (man that was one long run on sentence). :D

I know Bartlett very well, not far from where I spent all my long summers and Dads body shop.

Great area Josh, gets crazy at christmas with the traffic
to the mall and Bass pro shop off the interstate.

you'll notice that soon they will start having cops direct
traffic instead of using the lights into and out of the mall.
