Title: Ups fraud line?
Post by: dr galaga on October 27, 2005, 08:05:24 pm
Does UPS have a department for/care about insurance fraud?
Okay, I'm going to try to make this as short as possible.  I bought an item off ebay (with a personal check - think I'll use PayPal from now on) and the person sent it UPS.  Part of it arrived broken - packed heavily in bubble wrap, there is no way it could have shattered the way it did even if it was dropped from 100 ft - but let's not worry about that right now.  Seller had me he-haw around with UPS (UPS gave them a full refund), ignored my emails and now they say they shipped a replacement for the broken piece (UPS refunded for the whole unit, not just part) via USPS.  They can not produce a tracking or delivery number.  I told them I would give them until Monday to ship (and send me proof) a new piece or I'm contacting ebay and UPS.  She sent me back a real pissy letter about telling her what to do.
This is fraud, eventhough it is a small dollar amount, it is still fraud.  Do I just call the regular 800-PICK-UPS number?  Would I ask for a certain department?

One of the facilaties our team staffs is the UPS station at Miami Int'l Airport.  I reached out to them a couple of hours ago. Read them your post.  They were supposed to get back to me, but have yet to respond.  Not sure if its a lack of interest or hurricane damage.  Will post anything I hear.

They never got back to me.  Guess they don't care.

That's what I got too when I called UPS earlier in the week.  Ebay doesn't care either since it is just below the $25 limit (eventhough with shipping it's more).  Tried the dispute feature, that got nowhere so I neg'ed her today and I'm going to go to the bank Monday to see if I can still put a stop payment on the check - she has my money and UPS's  .  From now on I guess I should use PayPal.

Just a little update (if anyone cares):  About a week after we played the Neg. follow-ups game I get a package in the mail.  Her mother sent me a letter that she is sorry for her daughter's behavior and also in the box was a new base.  She also told me not to contact her or her daughter because she doesn't want the daughter to know that she sent the base.  :drinkers:
