Just wanted to let everybody know that I got my Cavalier 55D refrigeration deck back from Global. I couldn't have asked for a better transaction. Short of hurricane Rita messing up the timing, everything else went perfect. After a new compressor, new temperature control and new mounting rails, my deck looks better than ever and works like a champ!
Eric's shipping was excellent too. The sturdy bi-wall bos he shipped it in is pretty bulletproof as far as cardboard boxes go. It was adorned with all sorts of cautionary stickers that seemd to actually make FedEx take notice of the contents.
Thanks, Eric! And by the way, hats off to you for such a wonderful job and allof the continuing phone support that you offer. If you ladies and fellas need a refrigeration deck fixed, Global is the place that I would recommend hands down.

Had a super busy day at work and didn't get a chance to make to make to many phone calls/e-mails today. even lunchtime was rushed. I got home this evening and fired up the machine and it took it down to about 35 degrees in no time. It took approx. 4 mins for the compressor to kick back on and it ran for about 2 mins.
So, I removed the back cover and unloaded the bottles and made the adjustment to the cut-in (1/2 turn) and reloaded and replaced the back cover. This time the compresso rsyaed off for 10 minutes. I was shooting for 15 minutes or there abouts. So once again, off came the back and out came the bottles and in went the jewlers screwdriver to make my final cut-in adjustment.
It now pulls the box down to 34 degrees and waits about 14 minutes to kick back on. And mind you this is only with the machine half loaded (I'm in the process of reproducing more side spacers so that the bottles fit properly)
So, let me know if this sound good or not. Thanks for all of the advice!

Agreed, Eric does excellent work and even a hurricane doesn’t slow him down. Just received my unit back last week and it looks great and works like a charm.

I've got to get my act together and order a lower deck for my Standard Spin-top. The problem is getting someone qualified to mate it to the upper assembly. I've called around and noone wants to touch it.

Bob I found once that if you go to an HVAC company and wait to find a technition outside or if you see someone working on a HVAC system in your neighborhood ask them and offer them cash to do it on their time off and they will generally want to do it. It is just the companies themselves don't want to do it because there is verry little money in it and they don't want the responsibility of working on something they don't generally work on, but extra cash under the table looks good to the technition.

Ditto, but also make sure they have a working knowledge of refrigeration. Most all refrigeration techs can do a/c work but, not all a/c techs can do refrigeration. Ask them a few basic questions, mainly "can you do medium temperature repair?". Not sure of the answer, post back or give a call and we'll "pre-qualify" him/her. If not any good, move on to the next one! We'll get you covered.

Basically we're talking about anything above freezing, 32', and below
48' or so. High temperature refrigeration is usually above 50' but below
68' or 70' cooling only, like produce, candy, pastries, and so on. Medium temperature is like you refrigerator at home keeping drinks, dairy products,
leftovers, in the range of 38' to 42'. Low temperature refrigeration is anything below freezing and usually between 0 and -20F. In some cases I have repaired 2 stage, low temp, equipment reaching down into the -50 range, not needed here though.
Air conditioning repair is considered easier for two reasons, we're not as cold on the evaporator coil temperature and we're dealing with lbs. of refrigerant vs. ounces. There is a lot less room for error in refrigeration especially when were talking colder temperatures. Air conditioning uses R22 where as refrigeration can use r12, 134a, 502, 404, 416, mp39, etc.
All I'm saying, is the people you use, need to be proficient in refrigeration and familiar with what refrigerant will be the best choice for you and your equipment. How many times have we all heard about someone taking their unit to be repaired and then the compressor locks up, or the coil springs a leak or something else altogether? And if you see someone using a "clamp on" piercing valve, grab your unit and RUN!!!
Quiz people. Ask questions about what kind of work they do. How long have they been doing it, etc.. I am more than happy to assist MY customers. I do however, have little patience with someone who is supposed to be knowedgeable, in their profession, refrigeration, and can't read a set of guages, use a scale, or solder a piece of copper tubing to make a repair. This frustrates me to no end. I guess I'm having a flash back to my days as a compressor remanufacturer and having to hold these guys hands, explaining an expansion valve, cap tube systems, proper air flow, to wiring a compressor. These GUYS should know!!!!!
