Title: Id machine please
Post by: keithm on October 13, 2005, 10:29:11 pm
I was looking a while ago at the posts re: the coke decal software on ebay and I dowloaded the sample and sent it to a friend of mine to see if he could open the file.  He and his father own a sign making company and I figured that he could give me some info.  We got to talking and he asked me if I had ever seen the "coke thing" he had in storage.  I asked what the story was and he did'nt even remember the details of how they got it, but he thought somebody dropped it off to do something to it and never came back.  He thinks they might have had it for 15 years.  Just sitting there ! Well, he didn't have time to show it to me until yesterday and it looks to be a cooler. It was pretty buried and in a loft area, so I couldn't get it cleared off or see a model #.  Any help would be appreciated, in an ID, collectiblity, and value.  Here are 2 pics that I took.

Thanks

keith

I'm fairly new at the game, so I can not tell the specifics.  But, it does look like a neat old cooler or slider type.  Someone here will know the details, they never fail.  Also love the snow thrower.

That looks like a Westinghouse Standard Ice cooler.  The paint looks in decent shape.  This one was probably made in the mid to late 30's.

Good eye, Wayne. I'd have to agree, looks like a Standard. Now the real question begs to be asked. Are you going to get this cooler? Keep us updated either way!

My vote is also for a Westinghouse Standard Ice Cooler.
(After a second look, I agree with Eric in that it's a Master, not a Standard)

Think positively, when are you going to pick it up...? :D

I'd say it's a Westinghouse Master.....Looks like it will need lids... and see if the cap catchers is there....
both items needed are reproduced but can get pricy......

Eric/Jim,

Upon a second look, I'd have to agree with you guys.  It is a Master.  Lids are about $85 each, plus handles and hinges.  Gaskets are about $25, and a cap catcher + bottle opener can be about $75.  So, it does add up quickly.

Yep it looks like a master to me with non origional lids. I like the way they look. It would make a great party cooler.

Check the liner.... there may be embossing along the inner side. This will give you the year
it was made (also will tell you if you need a new liner)
I agree these do make great ice coolers for a BBQ.
Also, these are not sliders and this looks pre-war/pre-electric....
These can be picked up still for around $200-300 with lids.... so be careful.

Eric

You guys are awesome. Talk about a quick and informative response. I have not even asked yet about getting it.  Just so I am prepared, Jeff Walters book lists a Master at $200 in average condition, so would I be good in the $100-$300 range on this one ?  Obviously I need to check the insides and botttom for rust, but if everything looks good, is this where I should be ?

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,
"coke thing" looks to be in great shape just missing/incorrect parts. I'd try $50 cash and see what happens. Can fix those issues later. Thank goodness the snow blower wasn't on top of the box :-)
