Title: Barq's quikold junior
Post by: on October 11, 2005, 10:40:26 pm
Has anyone seen an embossed Barq's Quikold Junior before. I have one on auction at ebay. In 15 years I've never seen another one. Mine has been fully restored to original color and condition. It is item number 7188386864 if you would like to take a look. Thanks in advance for your response.

I know Randy in Ozark... Looks like he did an outstanding job......
Though I've never seen the junior I know someone who has 2 standards
(the next size up) Wanting to work a deal with him on one so we'll see.
I watch for Quickolds weekly on eBay... there was a standard on eBay 2 years
ago... but the dealer took it off for some reason...
I've seen Nesbitt's standards, Pepsi Double dot standard, RC master, I bought
a 7up junior this past summer.... but that's the only other junior I've seen....
Quikolds are hard to find.... Collectors hang on to them....

Randy had a Dr Pepper junior, 7up junior and a Double-Cola Standard
a couple years ago but sold them unrestored.... I would have like to
have had the Double-Cola... it was straight....
We have a Barq collector on the board that I'm sure is watching......
I bookmarked it a couple night ago too.... Good Luck!

It looks nice, but I don't like the dark blue color scheme.

Doc,

The color is the original dark blue that they used in the 40's. It's actually not quite as dark as the pictures make it look. It's a little darker than the old pepsi drak blue but not much. Thanks for the response.

Hi I've seen the machine before it was posted, very nice.  I was just told by a friend of mine that he has never seen one of these before and may be iffy.  He said he has seen three like this, but there were cut out of quikolds 2000 and 3000s and turned into a junior.  If anyone has knowledge of this happening to other brands please let me know. I need to learn all I can.

I'd ask Randy who restored it... he'd tell you if it was a
custom or an original....
They're out there.... and all these juniors are...are ends of a standard or larger size cooler....
all the Quikold Juniors I've seen except for the 7up are only embossed on the front and back.
I could have bought a large Nesbitt's 3 years ago in IL for $200 and didn't....
I so would have made a junior out of it... It was missing the compressor and lids
so I passed... Why  :darn: .... Oh WHY!?!  :darn:

I had never heard that people were cutting standards and making Juniors. Anyone interseted should feel free to talk to Randy about this one. I'll ganantee that it's an original Junior. Since I owned it prior to the restoration I know it's not been pieced together. But certainly worth remembering for any future purchases. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah people do it all the time ... there's even guys out there that cut out
Orange Crush, Nesbitt's embossings and weld them into “Rare” VMC 81s.
I don't mind that... Heck if I collected OC and I could do the work why not.
Just wouldn't advertise them as rare one of a kind..... It's a custom
fantacy machine... It would still bring good money.
There have been Canada Dry, Nesbitt's, Mission coolers...HUGE coolers...
That were missing parts that would make awesome little junior coolers.

I talked with Randy a while back about the Double-Cola standard he had
and about a 7up junior... he told me about the Barq's junior he restored
so I know it was the real deal..... Nice find.... wonder what the original price
was ... can't imagine stumbling onto something that rare....

But these big double master, moster coolers even though rare themselves.....
If they're already missing parts.... It would be worth more as a junior or standard
and a lot more easier to store and display....

Oh well.... so much for keeping something all original (That would be
my only exceptionthough.....Taking a large ugly duckling and turning it into
a sweet little cooler :)

Eric,

Thanks for the reply. Randy is really a straight up guy. He was very excited to do this restoration. Still charged me an arm and a leg but was worth it. I've collected picnic coolers and machines for about 15 years. This is the only one I've ever had restored. Only restored this one because I knew it would be an something special. I've got a 39, 33, 81, 51 and several sliders all in original condition. Will probably sell some of them next. Thanks again.

Did you buy a restored Canada Dry cooler from him about a year or so ago?.....
If so that was mine.. I've traded with him for a while.... he does great work....
He has had some great stuff come through there... I still kick myself over that
Double-Cola Cooler super straight just surface rust.... would have been killer
restored. He also had a Quikold Dr. Pepper Junior but never seen what he did with that.
Would have been killer that DP mint green and white lettering.... It had the embossed
script logo.....
Guess you know Ross from Mansfield also?....

Hey Eric did that Dr pepper Quickold have the 10-2-4 clock embossed in the lids? last time I was there that chest was still sitting outside. You also remember the 7up quickold I had really rough but really hard to find. it was workable I kick myself for trading that one off.

No, it wasn't me that bought the Canada Dry. Actually I've never bought from Randy. I've seen Ross's web site but never been to his place. I grew up in Ozark but have lived in Tulsa for the past 25 years. Still have family in Ozark. Have just found most of my stuff at garage sales. That's where I picked up the Barq's. I think that they were from Mississippi and had moved to Tulsa.

The DP was a Quicold junior... The lid wasn't embossed it had
Drink Dr. Pepper Good for Life and ICE COLD on the front and Back... (I bet what you saw was an Atlas)
Yeah that 7up cooler you had would have been nice restored....
I let one like it go on eBay 2 years ago.... Had lids and a little better condition...Was one of those the guy thought he
could retire on it....
It'll rust away before he lets go of it.

I have an old mint green DP chest machine. It's got to be out of the 40's. It still has the original brick DP sign on it and the sign is in Mint condition. The lids are embossed 10-2-4. I think it is what they call a coffin chest. I've had it for at least 15 years. Any idea what it's worth? I saw just the sign go on ebay for $800 and they paid a buyers premium.

Check under the soda machine section... that DP also sounds like an Atlas cooler. Model(size) will set the price.
You picked up the Barq's junior on a yard sale??!!??! Man.. I want to go yard sale'n where you live! Awesome score! Sounds like it had to be a deal!
I went to college in Springfield, MO and use to hit all the antique and junk stores everyweekend.... Man the stuff
I passed up because of being a poor college student... :(

Yeah! That Dr Pepper SWEEETTTTT! The 7up you have is a little newer...
The ones I looked at were non-electric.... But same embossing with “you like it”... “It likes you” screened on either side of the embossing... on the front...
