Title: Coinco - problem with quarters Post by: kstt on September 15, 2005, 09:04:18 am I set it for 10 cents, and it works fine, except that it doesn't give change from quarters. Also, it accepts quarters, but won't vend a bottle if a quarter is used. Any ideas?
Title: Coinco - problem with quarters Post by: joesquid on September 15, 2005, 01:43:48 pm I had one that did exactly that. It ended up being a microswitch with a too short "finger". The finger is the very thin metal rod that is connected to the microswitch assembly and reaches into the coin path. When the coin travels through the coin path, it forces the finger down, out of the way, thus activating the switch. In the 9800s (I believe yours is also like this) there is one microswitch that has a finger that protrudes through all three coin paths (nickel, dime, and quarter). On mine, the finger had been snipped short (or possibly designed short) to not protrude into the quarter slot. Therefore a quarter would go through its path and not actuate the vend switch...thus no soda and no change. I'll try to take some pics and post them to show you what I mean.

what usually breaks on the switches "whiskers" is the point were it bends into the coin paths slot-opening, in the case of the Quarters switch, at the yellow arrow, these wires are made of stiff steel wire, that doesn't like to be re-bent multiple times, plus as you can see, the wires are also prone to rusting, which can make them brittle at the bending points, also note that often the Nickel switch is missing the far coin paths "whisker" ( top of the photo/green arrows) & will only credit every other coin. especially if the guard (plastic-cover) is missing from the front Title: Coinco - problem with quarters Post by: BrianB on September 16, 2005, 08:12:19 am We'll just call you "Johnie-on-the-spot" from now on!!

I've been busy with "training" a whole new group of Sailors over the last straight 48 hours. I took the pics but couldn't get a good straight-down shot of the whisker (finger)....and I'm starting to see pink elephants haunting my coke machines....think I'll go get some well deserved sleep....nighty night....zzzzzzzzzzz....snore!!
