Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: on August 24, 2005, 11:33:19 pm I know this is a soda machine forum, but I also know that many of you also love collecting jukeboxes. Until now, all I could do was sit idly by while you talk jukes, but that has changed now because last week I bought my first jukebox!!!
Now first let me say that I know most of you juke collectors have the beautiful old vintage ones with clear glass domes, lots of charm. But since those are the expensive ones, all I could afford to track down was this one. It's the Wurlitzer 3600 "Superstar" from 1972. I wanted it for my gameroom and though it's not as collectible and valuable as all of yours, it's lavalamp-esqe design really adds life to the room and since it is right next to the pool table, an upright wouldn't do. I needed a model that would allow pool cues to go right over it when people are playing pool. It works beautifully and is so much fun down there. Check it out: Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: on August 24, 2005, 11:36:17 pm I have already filled it with 100 used, fun 45's and I found a Word document template for creating my own song & band labels that look just like the professional ones.
See them here: Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: on August 24, 2005, 11:39:56 pm The only part I need to replace is the clear plastic that goes above the labels.
It has some annoying cracks and a spilled liquid inside it (must be two layers together, because the spill is inside the actual plexi, not on either side. See photo above. Unfortunately it has the numbers on it too, so I can't just use any sheet of plexi. Does anyone know where I can find replacement parts for the Wurlitzer 3600 "Superstar" (1972)? Otherwise it is complete and wonderful. I already got a new needle and turntable belt to start afresh oh and it's manual. Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: BrianB on August 25, 2005, 06:41:58 am That's so cool! Seeing one of those juke's brings back memories of this really awesome pizza joint named "Fargo's" in Mountain View, CA. Had the best pizza, a rocking jukebox and a "totally rad" arcade with EM pinball machines and the best selection of stand up classics.
Possibly the only good things to come out of the 70's! Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: Bob K on August 25, 2005, 06:55:51 am Very sharp, 'kito
I think an SMC poll is in order. We need to agree on one of the fifty states, then we all have to move to that state so we can enjoy each other's wonderful collections in person. The Chicago show would be a good place to check out in November(How far are you from St. Charles IL) ... Lot of suppliers just for jukes set up there... I'm sure there is a set of screened plexi glass for your juke just waiting for you. Also there's got to be a site for Wurlitzer..... Keep us posted! I picked up some cards at the Chicago show, but I can't put my hands on them right now. When I find them, I'll let you know. I have a Seeburg that I was looking for someone to repair. I bought manuals for mine from gameroomantiques.com Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: dr galaga on August 25, 2005, 04:51:12 pm I get all of my juke parts from Dufee's Coin-Op. http://www.jukeboxparts.com/ A(except for a few e-bay items).
John Durfee owns the place and is the only employee, so you will probably have to leave a message or an e-mail, but he gets right back to you. Looks like he has 2 3600 parts machines. He packs things pretty well. I've purchased glass from him in the past. Now you need a wallbox! Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: dr galaga on August 25, 2005, 04:53:28 pm Looks like he has the brochure for it too!
Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: glassbottlesrule on August 26, 2005, 02:59:42 pm Guess I'm just a child of the seventies cause I love that era of jukes. They are almost as good as the space-age inspired ones of the sixties. That's a good looking machine. I've been looking for something like that around here but nothing has popped up that is affordable.

There's felt on the bottom of the case (which I guess is okay). That was the first thing I checked! Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: on August 27, 2005, 11:40:32 pm Thanks. It's a lot of fun and runs beautifully.
Plus it has been wonderful to teach my young boys about those things called "records" and they love watching it select a 45, lay it down and then play it. Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: BrianB on August 27, 2005, 11:58:36 pm 'Kito -
I bet the look of utter amazement on their tiny faces was worth every second! I think it's only right to incorporate stuff from an era gone by into a child's learning experience. Wow, that almost sound like a "canned" purchase justification speech..... Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: MoonDawg on August 28, 2005, 10:32:51 am Won't find many kids that know how to use a bottle opener either. It's been twist tops for a long time.
Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: on August 29, 2005, 09:22:06 pm I know. As you all know, it's fun to see kids and their parents at our soda machines. The kids (and even those just out of college!) have no idea how to use the built-in opener and the older adults get all nostalgic and remember instantly.
Title: Markito's wurlitzer 3600: i finally own a jukebox! Post by: Creighton on August 29, 2005, 10:46:02 pm It's funny with guests. Found it best to give them a quarter so the machine makes change then nobody trys to open the bottle from the coin return slot :-)
