Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: on August 22, 2005, 05:07:50 pm Well taking the USS-96 into work has taken a turn for the worst. We don't know how long we will be in our current office, it could be two more days or two more months. With the move upcoming we have decided to hold off taking it in to the office (I don't want to move something that heavy twice).
I live in between two schools and have a lot of foot traffic and was thinking of putting it out front to make a little money. My question is how well do these machines handle the weather. Being in Utah it can get pretty cold and with winter upcoming I wanted to know if this would be ok outside? I know that some machines are out year round so I am assuming that they have some sort of heater so that things do not freeze up. The last thing I want is to start freezing drinks. Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: loman4ec on August 22, 2005, 05:18:56 pm It should be just fine outside. After all it has probably spent quite a few years outside sometime in its life. The outside temp will not affect the inside temp. These machines are well insulated and I don't think any temp outside would make the bottles freeze. I also just modified a USS 64 not too long ago and added a dollar bill acceptor. I had to cut a big hole in the coin door but Cavalier coin doors are a dime a dozen. This might be a good idea for you to help make some money.
Josh Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: on August 22, 2005, 05:34:25 pm Josh, do you have any pics of it. That is a great idea. Were you able to use it with the coinco coin mech? Are there any pointers you could give me on installing one myself. Thank you.

Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: loman4ec on August 22, 2005, 06:23:48 pm You all are going to be mad. I never took a pic of it. I sold the machine and then later installed it in his house. He is a friend so I will see if he will email me some pics. It really looked good. The only problem was tring to find the space to install it. I had to remove the lock bar and install a clasp style lock because the dollar mechanism went where the lock bar was. It turned out looking good. I bought a Mars 6800 with DBA capability and a Mars dollar bill acceptor. I got both on ebay for $150 with a 30 day warrenty. Besides the lock being different it looked stock.

Yes the product could freeze if the temp gets cold enough, machines that are outside during the winter months have a heater installed to keep the product from freezing. Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: loman4ec on August 22, 2005, 07:06:59 pm I am in no way saying that you are incorrect but in the 48 machines that I have owned and many have come from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, or Kentucky and I have never had a machine with a heater and I know thay have been used outside. I have never heard of a heater being used inside a vending machine. I know that some mechanical vendo's had heating elements on their coin mechs. Actually the VMC56 has a heating element on the coin mech. YOu could be right but I just have never heard of it happening.
Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: vend_dr on August 22, 2005, 09:27:13 pm Having been in the vending industry for 20 years in Minnesota I can assure you that the soda vending machines that are outside in the winter here will have a heater in them. Here is a link to a example. heater picture

I have never been is weather as cold as you have it up there. I guess I should get ready for it since I am moving to Minnesota next month.

That website has some interesting parts list. Check out this link Vending Repair Parts Kevin Title: Can i put iit outside? Post by: vend_dr on August 23, 2005, 12:25:17 pm Yes they have some usable stuff there and they are reliable, I have used them for many years. Most of their stuff is for newer equipment though so I am not sure how valuable they would be for most people here.
