I'd like to know the story on this one.

How did you come across this one.

If that thing could only talk, I bet it would have a lot to tell.

Well Garry sent Arron a money order for $975.00  6 weeks ago for this cooler.
Seems Speedy has disappeared!  He won't answer either phone number or e-mails. How many others in this in this group also bought this Icy-o from him?

Maybe we need to call in the DAWG  :glare:

Hmmmm.... Let's hope that he'll come through on the deal and there's a
good reason for the delay........ But.... wow 6 weeks.... Hate to think
with all the great people on this site that someone just popped in.... posted a few
topics... then ran with one of “Our” guys money......
I'm with Glen......

Well does he have the address of where he sent the check to? If so it would be worth a plane ticket to show up at his door step.

Here's what I found on a reverse no. search, Pennsylvania exchange. Quote...

"The phone number "(610) 410-7629" is a Center Pt, PA based phone number and the registered carrier is Peco Hyperion Telecommunications. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier."
 ???

cell no. returned...

The phone number "(570) 772-3244" is a Williams Point, PA based phone number and the registered carrier is Cellco Partnership Dba Verizon Wireless - Pa. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier.

so both are/were registered in PA

Cant you get an address from a phone number through 411 or operator?

Title: Icy-o pics
Post by: Jim on September 27, 2005, 08:23:23 pm
Just for clarification on my previous post: I did call the 610-410-7629 number and a female answered. When I inquired about the cooler and asked if Aaron was available, she stated he was out and that the cooler was sold. She did ask if I was the guy from CA and my reply was no and that I saw an ad in a classifieds on a web site...

Thinking he is alert to our 805 (Calif) area code, and with caller ID, he is avoiding our phone calls. But calls from all over the country, like you guys did, may prompt a reply!    Thanks friends!  This is a great group!

Hope you sent a US Postal money order, via US Mail.  If so, you might want to talk to a Postal Inspector.  You might be surprised at how much they can do.  Having used US Mail would indicate you have an address.  Makes it a lot easier with an address.  Push come to shove, having used the telephone in the commission of a crime might make it a Federal Crime and the FBI might have some interest.  Your state law enforcement agency might be of some help, the dollar amount might make it a felony fraud case in your state.

Great news! The cooler arrived here today by surprise.   Seems teamwork is the key!  Thanks Arron and/or  SMC
Today it has been stripped......New SS liner is being made, new glass and hardware on order.
Original finish was supposed to be a wood grain look. YUK !   We were leaning toward all white with gold letters and black or green or white selection doors, but would welcome  suggestions of a 1920's Coca Cola color scheme. Any input?

Great new indeed!  :D    Hmm, for a '20's cooler I wouldn't think an all white look would fit the era, I'm leaning towards a classic early Green & Red color scheme , like you see on the  "Glascock" & "Mill's" machines of the day..just a thought..
I do agree that the original painted "woodgrain"  wouldn't be my first choice, yuk!  :p , once again glad it worked out!

Hmmmmm.... Would like to at least see what the wood grain looked like... Any photos?
Right color scheme it may be better than you think as long as you can get someone with the talent to do real looking wood grain and not a bunch of brown color smeared on the cooler.
But... If you don't go that route I'd say the dark geens and blood reds of the early machines
also... White may be too generic.... Can you Photoshop it in a couple different
looks before you start.... Or have you seen one restored?
We need pictures!!!!!!................ :)

Glen,
Great news on the cooler. If you decide to use the wood grain finish I have a guy here locally that is awesome at doing that kind of paint job. I seen his work on the dash a trim pieces of a custom high dollar street rod. It looked like real wood. He also does wood grain paint jobs on surfboards. He used to live in Ventura and owned a silk screen shop there. This guys work is awesome. I recently helped him install a paint booth in his shop. This winter we'll be putting one in my shop. :)

No sign of wood grain. Doors would not close because inside wood framing was swelled. Wooden base entirely rotted and missing. Icy-o embossed on bottle opener. Looking for a pic. of what the cap catcher looked like! Anyone?

Glen -

I was just taking a look in Jeff Walter's book (Pg.19) at the picture of the Icy-O Countertop and it looks exactly the same with no cap catcher. Are there screw holes present that would indicate the use of a cap catcher of some sort?

Two screws are visible under the bottle opener and deflector

Hey don’t give up on the wood grain too quick. I have a rare dispenser with wood grain lithograph finish and it looks fantastic. You really need to see it in person to see how good it really looks. Here is a picture of it:

I agree with the white with red letters but I would add a little bit of green pin striping on the sides and front. I think that would look great.

Anyway I've made my decision from these illustrations. How does everyone else vote?

It's photoshop... All I did was copy and paste your image into photoshop
and make several layers and start drawing and typing.... hope this helped.

As far as what I liked.... I know some where pretty generic.... but I bet
that's the way they were... They didn't go over board with decals and etc.
These weren't for looks they were to work as a tool for selling...
I like the white & red version and just a little pin stripe... I went off a picture
of a Soda Fountain workers jacket (white with a red pin stripe)....

Please no Sprite boys and 10 cent decals! :)

Eric

I like the red and green but I think there is too much green. I think that just a green pin stripe to add a little 1930's coke chest flavor to it.

Hello Glen,
Awesome cooler. I am kicking myself for not buying it. I liked the wood grain picture myself. For it rarity I would go with the wood grain. If you need a painter that does that kind of work I know a guy locally that will be in your area soon. I could have him drop by a give you an estimate. He said he might be going to Ventura on Sunday. I could get him to email some pictures of his woodgrain work. Let me know if you are interested. Regardless of how you finish it, it's gonna be totally cool!

I'm sure you will (or have)... but be sure to measure all text and logos before stripping it down... My images after looking at them I made the Logos too big (I was just in a
hurry... sorry)....
I also just noticed... there looks to be a script type test running up the side at an angle....
Does it say refresh yourself or something?.... I'm really looking forward to this restoration and it's gonna look good in our gallery here (and machine area) :)

We'll be watching...

Post by: MoonDawg on October 07, 2005, 12:41:14 pm
Well thanks everybody.  Garry has taken every idea set forth and has concluded this cooler should really be brought back to life as original as possible. Sort of as respect to the Icy-o company, and our future generations. Terry's friend Tom will be here this afternoon to discuss airbrushing the wood grain.
Good eye Eric, yes can barely make out the "refresh yourself" script on the side.  Anyone know where to find this script as a decal ?   The Coca Cola letters are gold with a thin red border. Drink and in bottles are gold with black border. Across the front above the window says "Help yourself please pay clerk"

Title: Icy-o pics
Post by: Eric on October 07, 2005, 01:17:04 pm
Those last two were just a joke.... Just wanted to see if there were any Pepsi
or OC  lovers out there....
Anyway there's a Coke sign out there with the refresh yourself.... If someone
can get me a clean scan of that I can build it for you and send it to a printer to make a decal
same with any other text....
Heck my 7up flange, if anyone has seen that, I scan and redrew every little dot
on that as on all our other signs..... so I'm sure I can rebuild any text....
Just let me know.

Eric

Now that I think about it.... you should talk with Antique Vending.... They use a mask to silk screen all their text and logos on... It would be more like the original .....

It's like taking the vinyl letters that have been cut out and using the left overs (reverse part) to place on the cooler and painting the logo on...... He told me it was a vinyl mask they use....
Never have to worry about the decal  going bad.....
They are nice to talk with and once you tell them what you have surely they would want to help......

Anyway... again those last two images... just kidding...
I'm a “No decal, no pinstripe, no two toning a RC or
Pespi 81, no paint like a mirror kind of guy”. :)

Of course if you already have a RC 81 all original
then yeah.... paint the other two tone.....

Eric
